Oky Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 What the... Is that final? The back of the jet looks horrible! Aside from the tail and the ramp, it's practically non-existent! It's as if they just cheaped out on producing a proper hull piece and didn't even bother to cover up the gap with existing parts. I hope that's not the case, but after all the hi-res pics without watermarks, I'm not too hopeful. Maybe just the CARS Characters have the printed items..... That would be my guess. The Cars website has been updated with another video. So far, these videos are highly entertaining. Those designers never get tired of teasing us with their limitless supply of bricks, do they? I wonder who had to clean up after that guy. He dropped like half of his bricks. Does anyone who the release date for these? May 1st? "Who"? Yes, that's the official date, although I'd expect them to show up in stores a bit earlier as usual. As for the missing characters, most of the ones you mentioned wont be in the second movie and are therefore probably not important enough to be produced, but there are still sets we haven't seen pics of, so there's still hope. And what makes you say there will be a 2012 wave? Toy Story lasted only one year, so why would Cars be any different? Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 And what makes you say there will be a 2012 wave? Toy Story lasted only one year, so why would Cars be any different? Cars is the Pixar creation with the greatest presence and success in merchandising, including what I believe is the longest-continuously-running single toy line of any Pixar property (the line of diecast metal vehicle-characters and the other toys designed to go with them). It has an inherently "toyetic" quality to it (to borrow a word from Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet), above and beyond any other Pixar creation (well, save Toy Story, obviously, and even then a lot of the toys represented in the movies are actually pre-existing real-world, non-Pixar-specific toys). There's certainly no guarantee the line will go on beyond 2011, but I think it has a good chance (indeed, it's already running more than one year anyway, since the first Cars Duplo sets came out last year). jamie75 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I really think, that if Lego wants to make a 2012 line for Cars, they can. The Die-Cast line has been going for over 3 years now. I know Lego will not go to the length that Mattel has with all the characters, but, there are still main characters from the first movie that can be produced. As well as buildings! I'm sure the second movie will have some too! Then again, this could go to the way of Toy Story, Batman or Spider-Man too. So much potential, so many possiblities, and nothing! Jamie Quote

If LEGO Cars does go the way of LEGO Batman or Spider-Man, that'd be good, actually - both of those lines ran longer and produced more sets than Cars has so far (or will have by the end of this year), which would mean getting more Cars in 2012. Oky Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Well, that's the thing, I don't think they will want to make cars sets, or at least disney wouldn't want them to. They will probably be asked to move on to the next big disney/pixar movie. In fact, I expect Cars to be replaced by Monsters Inc 2 sets in 2012 (which would be awesome by the way! Think of all the monsters!). But time will tell. For now, let's just focus on trying to find pics of the remaining sets! Quote

Seeing the amount of strange head moulds recently, it could definitely be a possibility. I have a feeling it may be as popular as the Toy Story sets because of their overall feel. I agree, however. I don't think Cars is meant to be the main focus here, and hopefully, a better theme will replace it next year or so. Quote

Think of all the monsters!). That would be awesome - indeed, I think I've said before that I'd love it if they treated all Pixar's stuff as an ongoing umbrella theme with lots of subthemes gathered under it, and each year they would do sets for whatever was the newest Pixar movie, along with sets for older movies in the off-season (so that we'd eventually get sets for The Incredibles, A Bug's Life, etc.), and in those years in which the new Pixar production was a sequel to a previous one, they'd do sets in multiple waves based upon the whole overall series (as they did last year with Toy Story and are doing this year with Cars, and have also done / are doing with non-Pixar creations like Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean). I'd be utterly tickled to have the entire Pixar canon represented in LEGO bricks. I just think that if any one Pixar property would be capable of supporting an ongoing theme to itself regardless of whether LEGO did other Pixar movies and movie series or not, it would be Cars. I really think Cars could easily go for several years and produce lots of sets - perhaps not on the order of Star Wars or even Harry Potter, but certainly at least as many as Spongebob Squarepants, say. Agreed! 2, maybe 3 years would fine for Cars to run its course and for Lego to make most, if not all the main CARS from both movies. Jamie Quote
Lance Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Im most likely to get flo's v8 cafe if the price is good. I would like to see a tractor tipping set and the cosy cone maybe? Edited March 13, 2011 by Lance Quote
Jargo Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Hmmm, It's a damn shame there'sno rear fuselage part in white to fix that gaping hole on the spy jet. I'm not really interested in the cars sets but the spy jet offers possibilities for modification into a cool city airport plane. If it weren't for the lack of a white rear piece. Curses! Quote

That's the beauty of Lego. If you don't like something, you can built it the way you want. Besides, it maybe a cool transport plane with the loading ramp! But, I do think that if that is the way the plane will look and not an unfinished prototytpe, the sides of the ramp do need to have something done to them. They look open, which is not very good for cabin pressure?! Jamie Quote
Oky Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 There's a an interesting new video on the site that shows how prototype parts are made! Also, on the frontpage of Lego.com, there's an animation of Lightning and Mater being put together. Quote
danim Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) seems like I was beaten to it, any way here are more pics of the sets http://cdn.stitchkin...go/P1000375.JPG Edited March 25, 2011 by danim Quote
PocasNuckie Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Hi, Does anyone happen to know when will we be able to see images of the remaining Cars 2 sets? I think there's still 3 sets we haven't seen photos of so far. Cheers Quote

r1chard Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 These will be released in a week's time, any photos? 8424 Mater's Spy Zone 8426 Escape At Sea Quote
Clone OPatra Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Ah, thanks for that. It seems to be in the same style as Tokyo Pitstop: two cars, some additional stuff for the $15 USD price range. Really, it doesn't seem like an enticing set at all, mainly because Mater can be had on his own for cheap(er) and the pink car is one of the worst looking of the bunch, IMO. Escape at Sea sounds to have more potential just from the title. Quote
Oky Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) Yeah, that set doesn't look particularly exciting, even though I like the magenta car, but thanks for the pic nevertheless! I wonder if Escape at Sea includes one of those oil rigs that are seen at the beginning of the latest trailer. Edited April 28, 2011 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
WhiteFang Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I wonder if Escape at Sea includes one of those oil rigs that are seen at the beginning of the latest trailer. I think it will include a small aircraft carrier with those Cars expression on it, with another 2 Cars characters in it. Looks like a spy warfare to me. Quote
Mesonak Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Found some pics of all the sets here. -Mesonak Quote
Fugazi Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Thanks for the link Mesonak! Interesting to have a first look at 8426 Escape at Sea and 8639 Big Bentley Bust Out. The latter looks like an interesting collection of car characters in nice varied colours and a fair source of tan parts, although the Big Ben design seems more functional than aesthetically appealing. Is that huge technicky flat beam with 3 holes a new part? Quote
Clone OPatra Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Is that huge technicky flat beam with 3 holes a new part? Looks like it to me. I suppose they were going for a big building fast, with the focus going into the parts. It's a shame they can't make sets with great buildings and great cars, but I guess it makes sense in a way for this theme. What really seems silly about the Big Ben set to me is what it reveals about the film; namely, cars flying. Utter nonsense, but it will probably good fun. Escape at Sea looks like a pretty good set, with that evil car character, a submarine (probably a villain) and (I think) Fin McMissile. Still, out of all of these I still find the Tokyo Pitstop most enticing because it contains the cutest cars and is relatively cheap. I am also glad that they have the set that just contains Mater, because it's a nice way to get the character even though he is in the most sets (and his name in Italian is Carl Attrezzi - which sounds awesome). I wonder why LEGO feels so bent on always have a 1:1 pic these days, here, they've used a wheel for each set. Quote
Aanchir Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Just wanted to share that in the Cars animation for the LEGO home page, you can see how Lightning McQueen is built. It's pretty complex, at least for a set that size-- I'm impressed! Tiny Turbos never did anything quite that devious SNOT-wise. Quote
