AllanSmith Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I love the Cars movie and will be getting all the Cars sets except the Ultimate Build one. On closer inspection of the Mack photo I can see that the trailer is 7 studs wide. Quote
Goomba Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Oh no, more legos to buy :D These look even better than I hoped! I will be wanting almost all of these sets, and the duplo sets also for the children.. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Mater Lightning McQueen These look great, and they are at a cheap price too! Definetly gettin' Mater! Edit: Refresh if not loading. Edited February 13, 2011 by Mrlegoninja Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks again 'The Red Brick' for those links, I'll think I will just buy Flo's Cafe and get them all in one big hit.....but still those parts are going to be handy for either old vehicles or super sports cars.....hello custom city ! Brick On ! Quote

Geki Brick Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Bring in pics for the remaining sets! I've got my spring/summer lego budget to...~75 USD Let's see what these sets do to it. Quote
Oky Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) I don't think there will be a lot more pics. Most of the other sets (if not all) are based on Cars 2, and as this shot shows, Disney doesn't want us to see any spoilers. However, you can see some more pics of Mack's truck and Ultimate Build McQueen here: http://i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?mode=album&album=2011_Toy_Fair%2FLEGO&dispsize=800&start=0 McQueen Looks better from that angle, but the interior of the truck looks very sparse. EDIT: Looks like I was wrong! Here are some pics after all: 8206 Tokyo Pitstop - 147 pieces, $14.99 USD / $19.99 CAD 8638 Spy Jet Escape - 339 pieces, $49.99 USD / $64.99 CAD They look like neat sets, and I think their prices are reasonable. legomaniac83 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I must say these sets are looking better amd better. I wish the CDN price would be closer to the US, but that's what sales are for . I suspect the single sets of Lightning and Mater will run $9.99 CDN. Also the back of McQueen looks a little blocky, or as if it's missing something in that photo. Man this is going to be a tough year for me! So much good stuff coming down the pipeline! Quote
jonwil Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The spy jet looks cool just for the airplane (depending on whether the black tail piece is a sticker or printing) Anyone know what the things stuck to the side of the red and green cars in the Spy Jet set are supposed to be? Quote
Delta 38 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Interesting. By the looks of things, I'll just pick up the smallest sets for a couple of the characters. That plane looks pretty good. I expect it could be easily modifiable to a realistic one. Quote

The cars have side mounted rocket launchers. Can be seen on the official movie trailer for Cars 2. Quote

Anyone know what the things stuck to the side of the red and green cars in the Spy Jet set are supposed to be? Believe it or not, they're guns! Haven't you seen the trailer? That plane looks pretty good. I expect it could be easily modifiable to a realistic one. That depends on whether the mouth and eyes are stickers or printed. By the way, check out this piece of awesomeness: Edited February 14, 2011 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
pompommini Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 At first I thought these sets were going to suck, but I might buy Tokyo pit stop for Luigi and Guido (the best characters ) Also that cone in the Lightning Mc queen set could be very usful for Plants VS Zombie MOC's Has anyone noticed that the Lightning Mc queen set has 35 pieces but theres only a car and cone Pompommini out Quote
Fugazi Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Has anyone noticed that the Lightning Mc queen set has 35 pieces but theres only a car and cone Except for 3 special moulds (hood, cockpit and rear fender), the car seems to be brick-built just like any other System car: Wheels + Tyres + Axles = 10 pieces Doors = 2 pieces Spoiler = 2 pieces Cone = 2 pieces So we already have 19, and I haven't touched the internal structure of the car. So it figures! Quote

prateek Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Cool! These sets look really nice, especially the big Mater Hold on, is that a new 1x4 curved tile used as the bumper on Flow and the VW Van? Edited February 15, 2011 by prateek Quote
autobrick Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Now that I've seen the other sets in this theme, I am definitely starting to warm up to them. Cars that look especially good are Guido, Sarge and that Italian F1 car. I still think Lightning McQueen looks poor; am I the only one? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hold on, is that a new 1x4 curved tile used as the bumper on Flow and the VW Van? Yeah I noticed that too, as well as other new specialized pieces like Flo's 3x4 curved hood, new mudguards, McQueen's <insert that tiresome argument> hood and top pieces. It's also the first time I've seen this 1x1 column piece in the V-8 cafe. This Cars theme surely has introduced interesting new pieces, though most are <insert that tiresome argument>. Quote
Oky Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Sweet! Thanks for the pics! Wow, Ultimate Mater looks great! All those brown and light-blue pieces! Definitely getting him. I'll also get the small $15 sets, just for the parts and characters. Flo's V8 Cafe is looking better than ever, so that's a must-buy too, even if $60 seems a little steep. It looks like if you park a car right in front of the cafe and hit the roof, the car gets launched. And despite the <insert that tiresome argument> plane, I really like the spy jet set too. Those cars are just adorable! Maybe if it goes on sale... The grand prix is absolute rubbish however. I was really hoping we'd get an actual race track, or at least part of it. This is just a big heap of <insert that tiresome argument> pieces with characters that you can already get in the cheapest sets, with the exception of one. Overall, this theme is turning out great though! Who woulda thought a theme without any minifigs could be this good? I still think Lightning McQueen looks poor; am I the only one? No, I agree. The 2x4 tiles stick out too much, and his overall shape could have been more accurate, but I guess that's what happens when you make molds with the motto "One shape fits all". It's also the first time I've seen this 1x1 column piece in the V-8 cafe. Really? Those have been around since 2003. And I don't think the pieces are all that <insert that tiresome argument>. I hope we get Ramone and Doc Hudson at some point too, maybe with the Ultimate Mater and Francesco. Some sets based off of the "Cars-Toons" would be neat too. Quote
Delta 38 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Nice! The larger cars actually look pretty good, but I think I'll pass depending on the size. The mini versions are good enough. There are two sets we haven't yet seen, I believe (excluding the "Ultimate Build" one). I hope they're small ones with good characters. Edit: wait, I think there are three. No wait, still two, I think. The Duplo Cars sets confuse me. Edited February 15, 2011 by Delta 38 Quote
Aanchir Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 LEGO Cars website is live. There's a rather amusing (if not very informative) video, a cute flash animation of Guido, and a place to submit questions to the designers. Pretty cool stuff in general. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 One thing's for sure, the eyepiece on the Bernoulli racecar is going to make for some great R2-D2 parodies. Anyhow, I think this theme has the biggest cute factor of any LEGO theme I've ever seen. It's kind of weird having a theme where there are no minifigures, of course, but that's how the source material is anyway, and I think LEGO pulled it off well. I'm especially happy that there are a whole bunch of cheap sets: Tokyo Pitstop, Grand Pix Racing Rivalry, and of course the standalone McQueen and Mater sets. Besides for McQueen and his girlfriend in the V8 Cafe set (and maybe Holly Shiftwell in the Spy Jet Escape), all of the cars seem built out of a lot of little bits, which is great. I'll admit that I was worried from the initial Lightning McQueen picture that all of the cars would be made out of a few larger pieces, but that's certainly not the case. I can't wait to pick up Mater and the Tokyo pitstop, those characters look fantastic! I'm sure this theme will sell very well with kids, just as all other Cars merchandise does. It's funny to think that even though the original Cars film was certainly not as good as some others of Pixar's work, I believe it was the bestselling ever. It certainly spawned the most merchandise. Maybe we will even see a second wave because of that. Quote
Solscud007 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) I just got back from NY Toyfair. here are some pics I took of the large McQueen. Edited February 15, 2011 by Solscud007 Quote
Fugazi Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 3 tons! It's an amazing model, I wonder what kind of metal structure supports the weight of so many bricks! Quote
