Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Having slept over the night, it still does look awfully lot like a backside of a rooster to me. Or, more specifically, like a blue plume piece attached to something dark. That's neat, I missed it entierly. Hmm, it does appear to be just what we think it is, and it's even standing on top of the barn (where else would a rooster stand) I like your idea for the plume that could be added: Imagine a chicken mold but in dark or reddish brown with a little opening at its tail (Like to one on top of helmets) where you could put the plume. That would be exciting news as you could have a variety of different colors (dark blue, dark green, white etc. ) running around the barn yard! I don't think they would include brick-built animals anymore; I like this move towards new molds!! Quote
Jargo Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 It does look like the rear end of a cockrel. there again it does also look like photoshopped smoke. whatever it is won't be there in final pictures. the way the kingdoms logo cuts it off is bad composition. unless the kingdoms logo is actually hiding an element we aren't supposed to see and it won't be included. final pics will resolve the issue. I'd been staring at the feed buckets by the goats trying to figure out what they are and as soon as someone says bucket instantly I could see them. And now I want them so badly. minifig sized buckets instead of the massive bellvile ones. how cool. and three of them. Quote

Jargo Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I just noticed the PoP Dastan hair in tan on the peasant with the new torso as well. I wouldn't mind but I just got new eyeglasses. you'd think i'd be able to see. On the King's carriage, are the wheels tan? I don't much like the carriage but the wheels in a lighter colour look excellent. Quote
Cutty Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks to all for pointing out that potential rooster! It does really appear to be something along those lines. As for similarities between the MVR and the City-line's farm: just no. As for similarities between the MVR and actual factual medieval and early modern-era agricultural structures: YES! I paid a visit to an open-air museum in late september which is a collection* of structures and architecture from northern Germany and styled to give the impression of actual villages. And these sets recreate the impression I had while wandering there to an acute level of detail. Astoundingly even modern versions of classical fairytales were shot at said museum! A fact I only recently discovered upon reading that information in one those film's end-credit rolls. My recommendation: BE joyous and happy you ARE at the very least getting proper representations of medieval farm-life! Be well all! Cutty *the buildings were deconstructed in their original places and rebuilt and refit to their original appearance in that museum. Quote
clouette Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Sorry to be off topic.. Did some admin gave me the title "Singaporian Santa"? Thanks! Quote
GreenKnight Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 The Mill set looks beautiful, a must buy. Probably the smith as well, as it seems he has a new civilian torso. Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 The Mill set looks beautiful, a must buy. Probably the smith as well, as it seems he has a new civilian torso. Indeed it does, and there are chickens, weapons, dragon Knight etc, and tons of earth color pieces, so I'll be picking up about 4-5 and making a chicken farmer's hovel Quote
Jargo Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) My partner instructed me the other day that I have to get hold of six chickens. No more. And I'm only allowed two goats. Apparently my ten cows, one bull and five pigs already take up too much farm space. I haven't reminded him that I have a horse stables too. And the arable land needed to grow hay, wheat, barley, corn, root veggies and so on. Brown baseplates rock. Lego should do a shire horse. Even if they only painted the hairy ankles on it'd be nice to be able to have dedicated work horses and have them separate from regular horses. Disappointing the dappled/grey horse didn't appear in the 2011 sets. Dappled/grey horses instead of white would be cool. Dappled medium flesh/nougat or dappled tan/dark tan could work too. Not to mention how cool a dark brown horse would be. Maybe it's time to retire the black, reddish brown and white horses for a while? what do you think, could next years sets have been better with new coloured horses? BTappel Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) Is it just me or does the axe that the dragon knight is holding in the tree on the left in kings carriage ambush look weird. Like it is a little too long to be a regular axe... I agree that new horses would be neat. Keep in mind these are preliminary pictures, so the rumored gray horse may appear later on Edited January 4, 2011 by BTappel Quote

I Scream Clone Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Lego should do a shire horse. Even if they only painted the hairy ankles on it'd be nice to be able to have dedicated work horses and have them separate from regular horses. This would be great, and doesn't necessarily require a new mold. The colour ideas would be great to see as well. To all the Castle fans, the quality of this conversation is a pleasant surprise, please keep up the ideas, rumours etc. Just don't post confidential pictures that are leaked elsewhere Quote

I've wanted different colored horses for the last two decades! lol. I just can't understand why LEGO sticks to the black/white horse colors all the time and just gives us a tease of brown once every 2 or 3 years. I think I have maybe 2 brown horses out of the about 25-30 horse I own. If LEGO released a small set under $20 with a brown horse I'd probably by 10-15 multiples of it. Quote
Jargo Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Mmmm. I have 5 white, 4 black, 3 brown and the brown foal. I actually wonder if Lego will revamp the horse at some point with a more sculpted head. in line with the recent animal changes (pig, cow, chicken, German shepherd dog). If they do it would be the perfect time to change colours. I don't think I'd really want to see the demise of black and white horses but certainly mixing in new colours and really varying them throughout sets. fair enough if they decide that the dragon knights all ride black, or the good king and his men all ride white ones, I'd expect that for castle army forces. it's the sets like mill village and market village that need different horses. And I won't keep banging on about this but different sizes of horse would be good too. pony, horse, shire horse. Heck if the pony was small enough they could put out a gold mine set with pit ponies. Orinstead of pit pony, a donkey. Donkeys are cool. and peasants would more likely have had them than horses. just as heavy armour waring knights would have used shire horses. leaving horses and ponies for the more gentrified. So, remodelled horse. Shire horse larger than the regular horse all in varied colours to broaden the pallet. And a donkey because a pack animal is all round useful for castle and subthemes therein, plus other themes like adventurers and pharoahs quest, pirates and city farm. Sorted. Just got to convince Lego there's a need for them now..... Quote

And lions. Lots of lions. While I get you're having a bit of fun with this and I like a sense of humor, I don't think what he asked for was all that bizarre. After all we are in a period of Lego sets that introduces a ton of new molds, and especially in the last 2 years with a cow, pig, dog, camel, and now chickens and goats, hitting the light of day for the first time, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me to desire more farm animals. If it were up to me, I'd say go the whole 9 yards and make a mold for every furry, feathery or scaly critter out there! Quote

Stiel Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Great, thank you a lot! That translates to roughly $10-20-40-70 for the new sets, right? Quote
Jargo Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Mill village converts to GBP£71.56 which is a bit too high for my budget. I might have to resort to just buying the new parts and downloading instructions. Quote
metalandi Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 thanks for the news clouette! those prices seem pretty alright to me. i can't wait for more photos! Quote
kevin1990 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Alright I saw the catalog picture's a while ago, and I never replied. From the small picture wich I saw I am very pleased. I did expect the windmill to be a big bigger and without a barn, but the set right now as it looks is already amazing. I really love it that lego is using alot of new molds like the chickens, Goats, and the minifig Size Buckets. I really cant wait for them to come out, and I'll be sure to get alot of them. Really glad lego is making more awesome sets like The Medieval Market. Its revolutionary Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Well that put me on a downer. Way to kill enthusiasm. I didn't mean to kill your enthusiasm, Brickenhead. I would really love to see more animal molds. I'm sincerely quite pleased that there are goats and chickens in the new sets, and it would be lovely if you could get Lego to make another size of horse. But I don't believe they'd go for it. As far as I've seen, TLG's model is to keep things simple and universal - one dog mold to be all dogs, one horse to be all horses, etc. Which makes sense economically as well as keeping their brand identity, because if they start to do a lot of unique molded critters they are really creeping into Playmobil territory. Lego want to emphasize the imagination and construction aspect of Lego instead of the wide variety of special parts. Quote

Just got to convince Lego there's a need for them now..... noooooooooo... Horse is my all-time favorite LEGO part. It is what draws my LEGO fascination. Remodeling it would kill the attraction. (just like I hate the new Playmobil horses, and I loved the old ones). I also want new horse colors and don't really see the problem in producing them (dapple greys, palominos/buckskins/cremellos, nice diverse paints without indian markings, detailed print with white legs and white facial markings), but no new molds!
