BearHeart Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Hey guys, I'm proud to be a journalist again. Today I shall reveal the Kingdoms 2011 sets with Singapore prices. 6918 Blacksmith Attack - S$19.90 7187 Escape From Dragon's Prison - S$40.90 7188 King's Carriage Ambush - S$89.90 7189 Mill Village Attack - S$149.90 Photos later.. For reference, Prison Tower Rescue - S$109.90 King's Castle - S$219.90 Tower - S$40.90 Prison Carriage - S$19.90 Knight Showdown - S$13.90 Impulse sets - S$6.90 WHOA, I thought those were US or CAD prices at first! lol Those are pretty much exactly the prices I was expecting each set to be. noooooooooo... Horse is my all-time favorite LEGO part. It is what draws my LEGO fascination. Remodeling it would kill the attraction. (just like I hate the new Playmobil horses, and I loved the old ones). I also want new horse colors and don't really see the problem in producing them (dapple greys, palominos/buckskins/cremellos, nice diverse paints without indian markings, detailed print with white legs and white facial markings), but no new molds! I agree! leave the classic horse model alone! Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 The prices are pretty expected, it looks like they shaved the price range off in both the high and low end and there are a lot of medium-priced sets which holds an inherent danger to do more financial damage. With the smallest new sets starting at about $11 USD, I wonder if there will be new impulse sets as that niche is now wide open. After all, Atlantis got a new impulse set with every wave so this isn't too far off. I personally would love an impulse set with a farmer and a few chickens, but that seems unlikely as they already have those in other sets. What is more probable are exclusive figures (like the jester and wizard) which kind of complete the sets, but are unique in themselves. If that is the case, I am rooting for a bandit/robber, or some kind of count or baron from the dragons faction who could be used as a leader. Quote

In any case I think here in Guatemala will use the same prices as in Singapore Quote

I'm guessing you're a purist. I think as much as it's iconic at some point it's inevitable the horse will be given a more sculpted look. certainly the head. the body will probably just get rounder, slightly wider shoulders and flanks. I don't think the silhouette needs to change it's just too square from front view. the whole character of the horse disappears. Besides which, so many bootleggers are copying the horse mould now Lego may have to change the design just to stay ahead. I like the current horse. it's been a good friend for many years but it's old and tired and it's time it was put out to pasture before it gets lame. Quote

metalandi Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I converted the price to both USD and Euro (even though we all know that the prices will be different everywhere, as always...): 6918 Blacksmith Attack - 15.40 USD / 11.70 Euro 7187 Escape From Dragon's Prison - 31.60 USD / 24 Euro 7188 King's Carriage Ambush - 69.5 USD / 52.90 Euro 7189 Mill Village Attack - 116 USD / 88 Euro Quote

I think the final prices would be: 6918 Blacksmith Attack - 10.99 USD 7187 Escape From Dragon's Prison - 19.99 USD 7188 King's Carriage Ambush - 39.99 USD 7189 Mill Village Attack - 69.99 USD Quote
BearHeart Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 That is roughly about 13-27-55-90 in canadian prices. $54.99 seems a little hight for the carriage set. The other 3 sound about right. Quote

Though I was hoping the Mill Village Attack would only be $59.99 or less, as I still have the King's Castle on my wishlist. It's going to be hard to get both at that price... Quote

Amen, brother! Despite the fact that I really hate some of the new molds (especially the new shartks and dogs, ugh! ), I agree with you in saying that it's ivevitable for TLC to be changing some of the old blocky mold to rounder and sleeker ones, if I may say so. Sets are becoming less "square", as well as the figs, animals and assesories. It's time for the horse to be changed as well. It shall indeed be missed by old fans, loke ourselves, but will be welcome by the younger generation. Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote

It's not only a staple in the castle theme, but has had countless face-masks, saddles, barding and accessories made for it over the years, and for the Lego group to change it wouldn't make too much sense. I think of horses like I do of minigifigs; a timeless design that can be altered and accented by accessories and printing but not changed itself. The basic proportion and stance are perfect and just like the blocky minifigure body will be around for a very very long time. It make sense to me that certain new animal molds are made sleeker and less blocky, but that is because we haven't seen them before. (I wouldn't like a blocky pig or goats etc.) The creative way to alter the horse can be seen in last year's Kingdoms headgear which made it look like the most realistic horse to date without any alteration to the animal itself. I believe we are at a point where minifigures are half realistic, half cartoony, and so they can still look sleek or choppy, as long as they don't look like supplements to toys. Quote

O yes, and if these are the final Concept box-art I must say I am very dissapointed in the new pitchfork. I was just going to write something similar about the horse. There are so many accessories for the horse fig (headgear, saddles, barding etc) that it would be a shame if LEGO remade the horse and made the accessories obsolete. I wouldn't mind, maybe, a redisgn of the horse as long as all the accesories still fit. BTW, I noticed not long ago that the black horse was sort of redisigned with new eye printing. I'm not sure when this happened, but I think in the last year or two. O yes, and if these are the final Concept box-art I must say I am very dissapointed in the new pitchfork. I was hoping for a new design instead they used the atlantis Trident They're not. It says "preliminary" right on the picture. And I'll bet lots of money we'll see a classic pitchfork or a redisgned one. Having a brown trident as a pitchfork makes absolutely no sense. I think one of the new Space sets had a picture of a minifig holding what looked like a more realistic looking pitchfork. Edited January 5, 2011 by BearHeart Quote

Ogre Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 ...As far as I've seen, TLG's model is to keep things simple and universal - one dog mold to be all dogs, one horse to be all horses, etc. Which makes sense economically as well as keeping their brand identity, because if they start to do a lot of unique molded critters they are really creeping into Playmobil territory... Which is kind of why I wish they hadn't changed the distinctly 'LEGO look' of their animals. Keep the flat heads and forget the 'rounded' look. I actually like Brick Forge's pigs, etc., better than LEGO's, because they've got that traditional 'LEGO look' about them. Quote

You are right, but consider the look of the minifigures today: they have pupils, detailed face features, cartoonish expressions and rounded detailed accessories. The animals reflect this style, and more classic looking animals would seem out of place in a set with highly detailed and animated minifigures. If we are looking at 90's and early 2000's sets I agree with you, but with the way sets look now I'm happier animals look more realistic than not. Quote
Apache Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Grew up in the 80's and as much as I love my vintage Lego people and bricks, I like the new faces, double printed torsos and YES, the new pigs are AWESOME! Can't wait for the Goats and give us Gray and Dark Brown Horses. You can do it LEGO! Quote
blueandwhite Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I don't understand the desire to remold the horse. It's perfect just the way it is. If anything, it's the overly detailed LEGO cows which seem out of place when you consider that minifigs have very basic features beyond the printing. I certainly don't want to see minifigs sprout noses or ears anytime in the near future (Jack Stone anyone?) so I don't see why we would need a new horse. I think many folks would be just as happy to see a new colour or two for the horse mold we already have. After 26 years, black and white horses have grown rather stale. Quote

I think the new dogs are too detailed, and the pigs are borderline. I'm curious to see how these goats turn out. I think they don't look all too much like Lego at all... Quote
kevin1990 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I think the cow, and horses fit very well together, plus lego did change something about the horses, if you look closely the eyes have been changed in the newer versions of the horses, they are the same as the cows, camels, and the rest of the animals. the only thing wich couldn't be used in a classic is the pig and that is pure because the color was never used in the 80 - 90's. I do think the chickens will look nice and could be used in a classic MOC, because they do look alot like the dupblo ones exept smaller. my only doubt is that the goat will have a more advenced looked, wich isn't bad at all. but I dont think some body would use it in a classic MOC, then I must agree with Ogre then the brickforge sheep and pigs are better.
