Gile (SRB) Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hope so... I think the only two that could be less would be the carriage and the village. King's carriage - 30$ Village - 60$?? Quote
clouette Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 King's carriage - 30$ Village - 60$?? I estimate it's more like $40 and $70 (based on S$90 and S$150). Mill looks alright for that price, but the carriage has only 2 trees and 4 minifigs. How can it cost $40?? They better gimme mOre trees and some buildings. Quote
Jack Bricker Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I know that I have not commented on this thread very much but, I for one am very happy about the pigs, goats, chickens, etc... I don't understand why some people would think otherwise. There is too much of a barrior between the classic castle sets and the new 2007 and on castles sets in terms of color scheme and detail that you really cannot mix the two anyway. I just leave my classic sets to themeselves and my new Castle/Kingdoms sets to themeselves. Besides, if Lego never evolved by expanding its parts assortment and color pallett I think it would eventually die. Think about it for a second. Think about how "nice" the crownies shield would look with just a regular blue and white background and a yellow crown. Think of just using the same old grey and dark grey for castle walls and how that grey and dark grey color will saturate all of the colors around it. I took color theory in college and one thing I learned is that if you put too much of grey Next to some other color (not even mixing it in) the other color will not look as bright or even pretty. The whole creation gets grey wall sydrome. Think about just having dark grey swords instead of the new metallic ones. Now perhapes there are some stubborn collectors who don't want to admit they'er wrong and they would say that they would like Lego to go back to the 80s and realease Nothing but vintage 80s sets for the next 30 years. Well I think Lego would go bankrupt if they did that. I would definatly go into another dark age as I am sure a number of other collectors would do the same because, you can't just collect the same set over and over and over and not get tired of it eventually. It's like if you watched Kingdom of Heaven or Lord of the Rings over and over and over and over for 30 years straite. You would start thinking of fancy ways that you could destroy those DVDs. So, to conclude I am very happy that Lego is continuing to evolve as a company and is coming out with more and more animals that are more detailed than the older ones. I can only hope that Lego comes out with some sheep for shepards and some dear for the forrestmen to hunt. Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 @ Jack Bricker, AMEN! You've beautifully laid out the crux of the argument; examples and all, very well done sir. I like the facts about the gray I never thought it had that detrimental of an effect on the look of a set. I guess evolution of something that has been a constant like Lego is sometimes hard to fathom, but as you mentioned the alternative leaves no room for expansion and leaves you bored and frustrated. It's also note-worthy to mention that if Lego was to release castles in the style of the classic castle sets, most people would not be happy. We've gotten used to a whole new way of building and designing sets so anyone who was to build something like this as a MOC, would get a ton of criticism to expand and improve the walls, towers etc. Quote
DaleDVM Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) I want to thank everyone for the interesting discussion. A big thank you to clouette for the photos of the new sets. Now waiting 6 months for them to come out is going to be torture. A new horse mold would be welcome by me. I think it is very possible for them to trim the hard edges of the horses head and body and still keep a similar size and shape to allow saddles and headgear to fit the new horses. As for the sets 6918 Blacksmith Attack: Great little set with a new peasant torso. Bucket and chicken is nice in a cheap set. I wish the dragon knight had the cowl torso as this one is the most versatile and the hardest to get in quantity. Preliminarily it looks great. 7187 Escape From Dragon's Prison: The barding is the big deal here. Looks like a decent number of figs for the price as well. I find it strange they included a visor helm. Will it come out in the new pearl grey? Will we get a oval dragon shield? I guess one can hope. I hope the pieces for the prison will be useful ones. The flickfire missile... oh dear, I threw up in my mouth... Still a win in my book. 7188 King's Carriage Ambush: This looks to be the most elegant carriage ever released. The two horses are pure win. I could have done without the gold wagon wheels. The trees are a great addition and I can never get enough of them. Looks to be a nice little set. 7189 Mill Village Attack: May I quote Usher? Oh My God!!! This is just pure sweetness. Obviously MMV is selling so well that TLG is rolling out some more civilian stuff. Could AFOL castle fans ever get better news? Chickens, Goats, Buckets, Pigs, more peasant torsos, and a new pitchfork! Or perhaps the old pitchfork? Who cares it is a pitchfork! OMG! As for this reminding me of the town farm set. Ummm NO! The problem with the town set was that is was made almost exclusively of huge POOP pieces. While this set has some walls it also has a large amount of brown and tan log pieces. I think this will make a good parts pack and the figs and animals are just heavenly! I can't wait to get multiples! Edited January 7, 2011 by DaleDVM Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) I wonder if the Knight in front of the Prison is the Dragon Knights Lord , It would expain why his armors different and why his horse has barding.P.S. I hope he does have pearl grey armor. Edited January 7, 2011 by Dr.Cogg Quote

I hope he does have pearl gray armor. It most certainly could be, he seems to be the most decorate Dragon knight yet. I doubt he will be the "ultimate boss" by the time this theme concludes, but so far it's the best we've gotten. As far as armor, I would be surprised if it's any color other than dark pearl gray, the one thing that surprises me is the inclusion of a visored helm since this is a type that was introduced much later than the bucket helm, and to have both at the same time is a bit inaccurate, but there are also dragons and wizards so I'm not one to complain about historical inaccuracy. Stiel Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Notice the prices of the set? Wow, pretty expensive. Particularly the "King's Carriage Ambush" - 89.90$ S$ means Singaporean dollar. It should be $40 in the US. That's still somewhat higher than expected (I would have guessed $30), but maybe the trees are bigger than they look on the box art. Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 $40 for the carriage! That's a little nuts, you can buy 2 prison sets for that money and get better parts/figures. I guess this will be to the Kingdoms line what the Sphinx set was to the Pharaoh's Quest theme; expensive and unexciting. Quote

Thank you Stiel, I didn't notice the "S." $40 seems reasonable, although still a bit high. This year is going to be expensive with lego; Diagon Alley, and Kingdoms. Quote

I'm also excited about the visored helm. The 2011 wave overall looks pretty good to me. I think the accessories that come with the Mill are great, although I am a little disappointed with the design as I expected something closer to the MMV style and I am not too fond of the barn roof. The prison set looks good and reminds me a little of Lagoon Lock-up with a small outpost and prison. So far the Lego Group is following a similar release pattern with the Kingdom Sets as with the Fantasy Era; we have had a large 'good knights' castle, with a mid-size tower for the opposition. We are getting a similar "Return of the Opposition" for the second year, so maybe we can expect a large Dragon castle in 2012 as well as a Lion Tower, though I wouldn't mind the Kingdoms line goings for more than 3 years. Quote
BTappel Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I agree with you. The kingdoms line is looking rather similar to the fantasy era line in terms of number and types of sets, with a few tweaks obviously as Lego realized we love civilian sets Based on the number of sets being released in 2011, and looking at what fantasy did for its three year run, I would say we should get a MINIMUM of 4 kingdoms sets in 2012, but probably more like 5 to 8. I also think there will be a great variety in size of the sets in 2012 like it was last year in 2010. The sets in 2011 are more or less all priced in the middle. My guess on the expensive 2012 set? A larger fortress for the dragon knights! Maybe I am just wishful thinking... either way I will need some place for all the mounted dragon knights I am about to buy to call home! Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 ... Lego realized we love civilian sets ... And you have no idea how happy that makes me! Not just because we are getting said sets, but because it means that these countless threads of wish-lists, speculations and petitions aren't just going off into limbo and never being heeded; in fact it shows that the AFOL community can request specific parts, themes, sets and get them too! That is a phenomenal development on my list! Quote
metalandi Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I disagree that the kingdoms line is similar to the last castle line. IMO it's much more similar to the old classic castle theme, than it is to the fantasy era. The design is obviously different than 20 years ago, but other than that, in terms of factions and all that stuff, the new theme is very old school (which i like). And of course, since we now have a non-fantasy themed theme, there is the great opportunity to introduce a civilian subtheme, since everything in the kingdoms line is purely human so far. Quote
clouette Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I love classic castle too. But like of all things, Lego design goes in cycle. Somewhere down the road, fantasy themes with dragons and skeletons will be back. Right now, if this is really a revival of classic, let's throughoutly enjoy it! I love my Kingdoms set more and more each day. Quote
Zeya Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 We've seen some leaked sets now. Are there perhaps other sets we haven't seen? I'm thinking of this year's Jester and Wizard tiny impulses. Maybe there will be some small ones like that? Were the Jester and Wizard impulses leaked last year or did they end up being a surprise? And maybe there will also be a large exclusive, unless they keep MMV around? Quote

And maybe there will also be a large exclusive, unless they keep MMV around? I think the wizard and jester had preliminary pics, as I remember the color of the beard changed form gray to black in the finished sets and that caused a lot of stir. I do however, hope for new impulses, or battle packs. ( Someone mentioned a civilian pack with pitch forks etc.) It is possible they will release such a set without prelims, like the Pharaoh's Quest battle pack which flew under the radar. The downside is they won't have new figures, but if it is indeed peasants and animals it won't matter to me. As far as exclusives, I feel these are always geared towards civilian life, so I wouldn't mind an inn, a chapel (unlikely because of religious issue ) or my personal wish-list item: A peasant house that can be build into any one of 3 official versions of the model, so that by buying multiples you can amass a village with variety. muscleman Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I converted the price to both USD and Euro (even though we all know that the prices will be different everywhere, as always...): 6918 Blacksmith Attack - 15.40 USD / 11.70 Euro 7187 Escape From Dragon's Prison - 31.60 USD / 24 Euro 7188 King's Carriage Ambush - 69.5 USD / 52.90 Euro 7189 Mill Village Attack - 116 USD / 88 Euro 7188 King's Carriage Ambush - 69.5 USD / 52.90 Euro 7189 Mill Village Attack - 116 USD / 88 Euro uhmm from photos I don't understand how big they are...but are a little bit expansive no? US prices should be around $10-20-40-70. People, don't just convert Singaporean prices directly. Comparing Singaporean prices to the price of already released sets for reference gives a much more realistic estimate. For example, 7187 costs the same as 7948 in Singapore (plus box size is the same, too), so it should be $20 in the US etc. Quote
