Baylego Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I really like the new faces in the mill set (the angry dragon knight and lady peasant)! It also has the new windows from POTC London Escape set. About the August release, I am pretty sure it is late may/early june like people in the US are used to. Lego has always said that every year, but it always ends up being June. I don't know why they always say wrong. Quote
DaleDVM Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Last year the sets weren't supposed to be released until Late June or early July. Then they showed up in LEGO stores on May 17th. I had the King's Castle review up the next day. I think we will likely see these sets in stores by June here in the USA. The new shutter piece for the windows is really great. I hope it looks good when put onto one of the doors. That way you can have a solid door with a "peep hole". All of my shadier back alley dwellings will need one so it can be opened and a password will need to be given for access! Quote
blueandwhite Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Thanks for the info, lisqr. $10 USD is a pretty good price for the blacksmith set, but $70 USD for the Mill Village Raid? $50 or $60 I could understand, but $70? It seems like a fair price to me. That means that it will be $89.99 CDN which is pretty much what I expected. There's a lot of content to be had in this set including six figures, seven animals and two of the ever-requested pitchforks. I don't think you'll find much better value when it comes to LEGO. Quote

I suppose you're right. For 6 minifigures and 7 animals that is a fair enough price. I was simply looking at the cart and the two buildings, so it makes since that I thought the price was too high. I Scream Clone Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I asked when they'd be available here in the US, and she said it's a confirmed AUGUST release for the new Kingdoms sets. So there you have it from the horse's mouth, if we didn't know that already. Thanks for the news. By then I should have saved back all the money I spent on old monorails. A good point, usually the release date is when all shops are expected to have it in stock, so you can expect to be lucky and find the sets earlier at some retailers. The window shutters and new faces are indeed beautiful, I like the idea of shadier establishments, good job LEGO. Can we expect a new review if you score early again Dale? Jareth Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Has anyone seen how many pieces these new sets have? That would really help me make a decision about which ones to buy Quote
Erynion Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 The dragon prison looks... meh... just a wall, not too exciting, though I expect people will go for it because of the armoured horse. I might want to pick up a couple of Blacksmiths just because of the unique armour and weapons it comes with. King's carriage looks a whole lot better than the fantasy era chariot, but I'm not sure if I like the printing on the horses. I think it limits what the horses can be used for - what if I want to ditch the carriage and ride like a cowboy? Overall, though, I also really liked the Royal King's Carriage from back in the 90's and I don't think this one looks better. Quote
metalandi Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) In THIS picture it looks like there is nothing at all inside the house from the mill set, that's really a shame There are a few more pictures of the new sets here: http://popculturenetwork.com/mediagallery/album.php?aid=718&sort=0&page=8 Edited February 13, 2011 by metalandi Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 The pics are pretty good: Lover the new king torso! Quote
clouette Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 The pics are pretty good: Lover the new king torso! Yeah the new king looks nice. The farm house looks ok to me. It's the exterior and minifigs that I want it for. Quote
KristofBD Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 The king's torso is probably the best and most detailed king's torso yet. It is truly great! I still think the carriage is perhaps a bit ooverpriced, but looking at the pics convinced me that it is a nice set. The Blacksmith is excellent value for money, and though the mill and barn are rather empty I still love them. Just a little moccing and these sets will fit easily in my village. It is a rather cheap set, so I did not really expect that the interior would be good. I only hoped it would be, but hey you can't have it all... Quote
Haltiamieli Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Wow, the king's new torso is fabulous! There being a cross hanging from his necklace, maybe the torso could be used for a high-ranking church official, like arch-bishop of the Lion kingdom? Hmm... I'm liking the MVR more and more everytime I see new pictures of it. Granted the barn needs a floor (no sense growing grass inside) and a few barrels and such things to fill the insides, but those are only minor quibbles. I wonder what that mechanism under the ladder does - pushes it down? These villagers are crafty! Edited February 13, 2011 by Haltiamieli Quote
metalandi Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) I also was wondering about the technic pin on the side, and i think that there might be a door in the second floor, and pulling out that pin might open it. Edited February 13, 2011 by metalandi Quote
Haltiamieli Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I also was wondering about the technic pin on the side, and i think that there might be a door in the second floor, and pulling out that pin might open it. A trapdoor between the floors? Sounds plausible, and it would be nice - it's always great when TLC bothers to "explain" how minifigs get from one floor to the other, even if it's not a big problem here anyway, considering the open ends of the second floor. While pondering the meaning of this technic pin I started to wonder where is the mechanism for lifting and lowering the winch? It's got to be somewhere, right? In the middle part of the attic, necessitating opening the building from the middle before it can be used? Quote

Still, the 2011 Kingdoms sets really do look quite nice. I'm glad that each of the peasants has a unique torso print. They should add some much-needed variety to my small band of villagers. I think this is the first set of shots that shows that the boy with the pitchfork has short legs. August can't come soon enough! Quote
tootsman10 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I'm buying 5 of the blacksmith set, hopefully there not too much. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) The pics are pretty good: Lover the new king torso! Indeed! That is some sweet looking prints on that minifig. Now I can use one torso for the king and another for a prince. Looks like the blacksmith has an apron print on his legs. New weapons look to be 2 daggers, mace, sword, axe, bow & crescent weapon. The new bow looks terrible. Terrible. Edited February 13, 2011 by UsernameMDM Quote
Baylego Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Awesome torso! It looks much more realistic than previous torsos. Quote
Artanis I Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 ISClone: monorails kick. Sometimes I turn the lights off and watch the trains go all around the Lego room for ages. blueandwhite: the short legs were visible some time earlier, you must have missed that one. Probably some preliminary image that was taken down soon after being uploaded. Jareth: US prices 6918 Blacksmiths Attack $9.99 7187 Escape from Dragon Prison $19.99 7188 King's Carriage Ambush $39.99 Village Mill Raid $69.99 (I missed the set #) Not much else to comment on there, there isn't much we hadn't already seen a few days ago. Looking forward to it! Quote
Baylego Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 $40 for the carriage and $70 for the Mill? Lego is really pushing prices into the ridiculous range :/ Quote
Haltiamieli Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 New weapons look to be 2 daggers, mace, sword, axe, bow & crescent weapon. The new bow looks terrible. Terrible. None of the new weapons of Blacksmith Attack looks very good in my opinion (the bow being the worst by far). But on the other hand, I'm reasonably certain that we will not be seeing these often in System sets - they seem to be designed mainly with the upcoming Heroica board games in mind, and they fit to that role well enough. Still, quite frankly I'd have been happier with even just one normal quality weapon or tool instead. Especially as I'm intending to buy Heroica too in due time, so I'll be getting the new weapons anyway. Quote
Artanis I Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 $40 for the carriage and $70 for the Mill? Lego is really pushing prices into the ridiculous range :/ You think that's bad? King's Castle is $170 here despite AU dollars being higher than US dollars. I can get it cheaper from USA including an enormous postage price. Then they wonder why retail spending is falling here - it's because everyone buys online from overseas! Quote
DaleDVM Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Here is a breakdown of the cost per piece for this years sets. 6918 Blacksmiths Attack $9.99 104 pieces 9.6 cents per piece 7187 Escape from Dragon Prison $19.99 185 pieces 10.8 cents per piece 7188 King's Carriage Ambush $39.99 286 pieces 14 cents per piece 7189 Village Mill Raid $69.99 663 pieces 10.6 cents per piece In reality only the King's carriage ambush seems to be lacking in the value department. Considering the carriage set seems to have gotten the least warm reception, I predict it will not be a great seller. (Just call me Nostradamus) It is too bad... I really like the design of the carriage and the King. But how many King figs can a guy use? The rest of the sets seem to be quite a good value. I will be buying many multiples of all of the sets but likely only a pair of the carriage sets. Edited February 14, 2011 by DaleDVM Quote

I understand that I am not one to complain since America has the cheapest prices. However, I am trying to get the Lego that I want for as least money as possible since I am saving up for some software. It is interesting that the mill is actually not horribly overpriced! I am still deciding whether or not to get the carrige though. Quote

Probably some preliminary image that was taken down soon after being uploaded. Actually, the first preliminary images had the same minifig with longer legs. The new box has the figure in the wagon so you can't see his legs and the spieletest photos from last week's toy fair have the figure partially concealed by a dragon knight's shield. In any case, certainly haven't come across a photo of this figure with short legs before. I suppose it's possible that there have been other toy fair photos from last week that I missed though. Quote
