ziljin Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I certainly hope there will be a third wave for Kingdoms! I'm still waiting for LEGO to get it right with the impulse sets in this theme and now's their chance. 1) Make an impulse set similar to 'Target Practice' for the Lions, but make it a foot soldier and equip with bow & quiver, as well as a spear (so you can buy a TRUCK LOAD of them and have archers, or spear levy). 2) Do the same for the Dragons. 3) Lion impulse set: Knight on horseback (similar to knight from Dragons Prison Tower), with lance and pennants, sword, kite shield & great helm. (need a cheap source of Lions heavy cavalry to compete with the 'Escape from Dragons Prison' set) How fast do you think THOSE puppies would sell out? I'd be so broke, my wife would divorce me! I wish. The Good Knight was an amazing impulse. 2 weapons, 2 helmets, shield (i think), printed torso and an armor piece. Excellent army builder. Troll Warrior was underwhelming compared to that, but still a better army builder than the dragon wizard or court jester. I was going to get a legion of wizards to make regiment of battlemages but never did. Similar impulses to the Good Knight would be ideal, and a cheap joust set like The Final Joust for Castle 2007 would be amazing. Knight's Showdown, Prison Carriage Rescue, and Escape from Dragon's Prison are pretty good though. Blacksmith Attack would have been great if there was another minfigiure. How come they don't make more army builder sets? AFOL's would buy them by the dozens, and I am sure children would like to buy a few to have a small army of their own. I can't imagine too many children demanding their parents to buy them the court jester. but I could be wrong? I know the wizard was a top seller (maybe someone out there did make an army of mages). And man, I was hoping they would make another tic tac toe set and chess set like they did for castle 2007. And the past few themes all had chess sets! But none for kingdoms. =(. But at least there was an international release (I am from US so I only assume other countries got it as well?) of the advent calendar this year. Quote
MurkyMajare Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Has anyone heard whether the summer sets will be available in Europe, specifically in Norway? Been months since they got added in the US, and still nothing. Quote
DarthSion Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Some of my fellow Aussies said they were able to order some lego sets from amazon uk, perhaps try them?. Quote

I don't know why they don't make more 'army builder' type sets. They'd be huge sellers, I'm sure. I disagree with you on one point though...I think kids would really like the jester fig, but...why 'waste' him and the wizard in impulse sets, when they would have been so much better in a decent set? (Think 'Drawbridge Defense' from the 'Castle' line) Toss the jester/fool into the King's Castle to amp up the 'must buy' factor and do the same with the wizard in the Prison Tower. Keep the impulse sets for figs that folks will buy MULTIPLES of. Make it good enough and folks will fall all over themselves to snag them. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I wish. The Good Knight was an amazing impulse. 2 weapons, 2 helmets, shield (i think), printed torso and an armor piece. Excellent army builder. Agreed. I'd buy multiple Lion or Dragon versions of a set like this. Would really love it if Lego made a 'training set' like my MOC impulse set: Training Pell Or how even still, I'd love something similar to 6009 The Black Knight or 6013 Samurai Swordsman. Quote
ziljin Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 @Ogre Definitely agree. Make impulses as army builders and the special minifigures in sets. It's too bad they can't have the battlepacks on sale for a long time like they do for the star wars ones. @ UsernameMDM yea that is great. I would eagerly buy that by the dozens. And those sets you listed would be great. Man it would be so cool if they focused on army builders for various types. Like archer impulse with bow, crossbow, maybe spear as a defense spike. And infantry impulse like with a sword/spear/shield and armor and helmet. Then a knight impulse with the armor, horse, horse armor, helmet, etc. That would mean tons of sales! Or even make more knight pieces available in pick a brick! Quote

Piranha Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 That would be superb. Yes it would be, especially since the Lion Knights don't have a Knight with the visor yet. There was something similar to it in the 2010 Kingdoms Advent Calender. And it had the Lion Knights Queen as well, why not in the US TLG? Also there is going to be a special 10000 series set, a joust? I hope it isn't going to be one of those extravaganza theme enders like MMV or IFS Quote

MCNwakeboard Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 What is IFS? I think he was referring to the Imperial Flagship 10210 which was the last of the Pirates II sets. Sort of a swan song, if you will, of the theme before the POTC sets. Quote
ziljin Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Are you saying you think the 2010 Kingdoms Advent was not available in the US or are you trying to say the one in the US was different? I think he just meant the visor helmet was only vailable in the advent calendar, instead of say a cheap set like an impulse to amass for lion knights. Quote

But even if they took out one or two things, it'd still help build up armies quickly. take out the crossbow and axe. Switch visor helmet with regular helmet and you got the Good Knight Impulse they made a while back. So maybe just switch one of the knight helmets for regular helmet and have shield/sword/spear and its golden! Quote

LandShark Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I'm new here, but since I'm a big Castle fan, I hope it's OK if I give my quick opinions on this wave of Kingdoms sets. Blacksmith Attack: The only set of the wave I haven't got yet. Looks good, but the Heroica weapons look a bit too Megabloks-y for me. Escape from Dragon's Prison: The minifigures are great, especially the Mounted Dragon knight . The building looks good too, but it's a shame that knights can't fit through the gates while mounted. King's Carriage Ambush: The King looks awesome in his Luxury Robes (different than in the castle), and the carriage looks very royal. The Dragon knight and their tree-traps are great too. Mill Village Raid: Finally, another civilian set! To tell the truth, I only just got this set, and I haven't finished building it (I've just got half of the barn to do), but it's great so far. Although I preferred the brick build birds from the Market Village, I found myself surprisingly liking the new animal molds. It should look great in my kingdom. I do hope Kingdoms continues for a few more waves, and I know I'm not alone when I say I want more civilian sets. Quote

That's funny, since the very first Kingdoms set that got me interested in the series was the Blacksmith Attack. And that's the only one you don't have. But I do agree the Heroica weapons were not working for me. In fact, I didn't know what they were when I opened it up since I have not been exposed to that lego material before. And I am excited for the Mill Village Raid. I have it sitting at home waiting for Christmas! I don't know if I can wait that long, but I will need to. And I do find the brick built animals neat, but I really like the new molds since they are more realistic and such. Quote
ziljin Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I just want more small army building sets! Like the escape from dragon's prison, prison carriage rescue, knight's showdown, or Fantasy Era Final Joust, The Good Knight, and the chess/tictactoe sets. Quote
Beefbanana Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I quite like kingdoms sets, from what Ive got anyway, Iv'e only got prison carriage rescue, blacksmith attack, and two knights showdown. The big problem I have with them though is that they are quite expensive for what you get, maybe thats just because I'm still used to fantasy era prices . But I like the factions, especially the dragons, but I still need to buy some more sets for more minifigures. Quote

But I looked at brickset for prices of mifigiures for castle fantasy and WOW. lots of the small sets had a ratio of 2-3 dollars per minfiigure. While for Kingdoms, its more like 3-5 dollars per minifigure for the small sets. Quote

ziljin Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Yeah, and I didn't really take advantage of the low prices back then though. but if you want to get technical, most people don't consider the skeletons real minifigures. And they are worth around 1-2 dollars compared to the 3 dollars regular minfiigures are. The use of skeletons no doubt saved lego money for those sets. Still those sets were incredibly cheap for army building even if you threw out the skeletons. Quote

And that applies to sets I missed out on from the fantasy era, too. Sets that I was "waiting for them to go on sale". Edited August 7, 2011 by Ogre Quote

Sets that I was "waiting for them to go on sale". I am serous about lego for the first time, so i will make sure I buy plenty of soldiers and knights from the sets that have a ratio of 5 dollars or less per minfigure. Preferably the cheaper ones, but escape from dragon's prison is excellent with the horse barding. Quote
