JoeMI6 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Great review Yoda, i would get this set, but the price is slightly off putting for a 14 year old X-D. Happy Birthday and i hope you enjoy the ISD. Quote
Andrex Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Haha yah, I'm 15, takes forever to save up! Ah well it feels so good to have saved up for weeks and to buy such an amazing set! I did that for the Sandcrawler, I had been wanting it for so long! Quote
Jipay Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Then you can be proud when you get it and you know how much it takes to get the things you like. Thank your parent for that, there is no better gift ! Back on the set, once more Europe is ducked. Every new sets shows how we are badly considered on the price level... 100 dollars of difference in the price is definitly ridiculous... Thats twice the american price... Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Great review Yoda! I don't realy like it that much though. All the stickers and ugly trans-green...and the price tag :-/ I hope the Sail Barge will be better (I'll still be getting this though...such is the fate of a collector :-D ) Quote
Andrex Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Well I certainly prefer the Sail Barge. The minifigs, Sarlacc, the Sail Barge itself, it is all so good. And in my opinion the price is pretty good, Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 5, 2006 Author Posted May 5, 2006 Can you tell me if the officers have guns :-( Nope, officers do not carry guns !! And to be precise threre is only ONE officer. A Grand Moff is no officer ;-) However since you like guns so much, you will be please to know that there are 4 guns in that set: 2 regular stormie guns (with a trans dark orange round brick instead of the classic trans orange) + like shown, 2 bazookas (with trans dark orange cones). *yoda* Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Very nice review Yoda. Thanks for sharing the images (and you actually beat Bloody Jay to it). It's a very nice set and although I'm not a big SW collector (anymore), I'll probably buy this one and load it with Storm Troopers and a few Imperial Officers. I've always loved the order, uniforms, and ships of the Imperial Navy. This is definately the flag ship and in mini-fig scale. It says BUY ME! - and Happy Birthday! Have fun taking out those Rebels! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Yoda: just one question. Do you think this is a better model than the M-Falcon #2: Quote
Dino_Bot Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Yikes! I would like to have one soon! I dunno if I could hang it or not. Quote
Legoman Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 xwingyoda can you please give the instruction number *wacko*s for the set thanks Quote
jof Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 It looks really good, but I would be tempted to dump the mini fig scale, and use it with the sw mini sets. You could then fit out the inside to hold a squadron of Mini Ties and maybe a shuttle. OK, it wouldn't quite be to scale, but better than minifig scale. Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 6, 2006 Author Posted May 6, 2006 Yoda: just one question. Do you think this is a better model than the M-Falcon #2: Hum, I am not sure what to tell you here Brickster. Better in terms of what ?: design, scale, MFs wise, playability and what have you !! I think those two sets are among the best OT SW sets !! TLC really does an excellent job on the bigger and much more expensive sets: look at the AT-AT, the Falcon2, the Crawler (I know some peole dislikes it), ISD ands Sailbarge. All amazing models (I'm only guessing so far for the SailBarge because the number of stickers will probably aggravate me a lot !!). xwingyoda can you please give the instruction number *wacko*s for the set thanks Yes I can, and tks for using the wacko sign to ask questions :-| Book 1: n Quote
Beagle Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Great review, Yoda! Thanks for being so thorough! It was never a question as to whether or not I would get this set.... I've taken on that dubious title of "collector," so I would be getting it even if it were made all of teal bricks and contained nothing but old Luke and non-printed-legs-Boba minifigs. :-P But it's nice to see it up close nonetheless! This seems like a good set that could be GREAT with a few modifications. Like you (and others) said, a plate to cover the cockpit, replacing the green parts of the cannons, removing some of the lame "shooting" features, shoring up the inner partitions with proper walls instead of technic bricks, etc. I might also add some sort of framework to strengthen the base, and a couple more hinges for the hull plates. My only big gripe is the escape pod. Why is it there? An escape pod never played a big role in an ISD in the films... I would much rather have had that whole front section be more of a walkway, where Vader and Tarkin could stand and survey. And there could be sunken pits on either side where Imperials could be working at computers. I guess that doesn't have as much playability.... but c'mon, this isn't really a good set for kids anyway, why not go all out and give it a proper bridge that would appeal to adult collectors? Ah well, still a cool set that I will quite enjoy adding to the collection. :-) Quote
Sir Dillon Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Very nice review, Yoda! This looks like a great set, but I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, and will probably not get this. The figs and pieces look decent for the price, but another figure or two wouldn't hurt. ;-) I really like the head used for Tarikin, so I'll probably try to bricklink one sometime, unfortunately, I bet they won't be very cheap for a while. :-( Quote
HJR-Holland Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I took reception of my ISD this evening (from a German AFOL to whom I own a LOT) and I must say it's one of the most fun Star wars sets ever built; it has many clever features, looks really good, is quite sturdy and contains great elements. I'd surely recommend it to anyone, whether you have or haven't got the 10030... Quote
snefroe Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 great review yoda still, i don't think i'm gonna buy this. 150 Quote
Athos Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I am very really super extremely disappointed about the stickered emperor piece. *n* So disappointed in fact, that I am considering passing on this set. :-( Steve Quote
Beagle Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 You know, while I agree with you (I dislike stickers in general) I was browsing through Bricklink the other day and stumbled across this set from 1974 (four years before I was even born!): Double Decker Bus It just goes to show that Lego HAS used stickers before, instead of printed pieces. I bet there are other sets from this era that do, as well. So one could theoretically argue that in some ways, by using stickers Lego is "going back to it's roots." *sweet* No? Yeah, okay, I know I'm reaching a bit with that one. :-P I am very really super extremely disappointed about the stickered emperor piece. *n* So disappointed in fact, that I am considering passing on this set. :-( Steve Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 I think you are indeed a bit stretching on that one Beagle X-D ;-) But a great theory nonetheless ;-) I really agree that the Emperor Sticker is a huge let down !! Look at all those Han in carbonite MFs we have !! they are printed !! Even if its a letdown, it shouldn't prevent you from buying this amazing set Athos ;-) Looking at the pic of the Sail Barge, it should be a sticker frenzy set >:-( The front of the skiff is probably a sticker piece (like the A-wing), I doubt all the 2x2 tiles on the Sail Barge are printed (that would mean 13 stickers) + those 2x4 modified (that would mean 9 more stickers). I sense an amazing sticker sheet full of 23 stickers :-X >:-( I hope I am wrong though !! And that would be a bigger letdown Athos ;-) *yoda* Quote
Jipay Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Is it necessary to mention that the yellow castle (one of the most overrated set imo) was full of stickers. Still, people like it a lot ! But now I have to agree that the use of stickers on trans pieces is more than annoying, specially because there is always a buble stuck in the middle of the sticker due to the glue. I hate those :'-( Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 I sense an amazing sticker sheet full of 23 stickers :-X >:-( I hope I am wrong though !! And that would be a bigger letdown Athos ;-) *yoda* And I was nearly right about that sticker spam fest in the Barge !! There are 28 Bloody stickers >:-( !! Well played TLC >:-( *n* *yoda* Quote
Vader Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I can understand why lego uses stickers but i have to admit i really dont like them, as said above the printed han was great and i really wish that the emperor had of been done the same way. That many stickers in the sailbarge you say yoda??? damn that sucks i knew we would have alot but didnt think it would be that many. :'-( Quote
