Tazmaniac Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Hi guys thought I'd drop a link here to hopefully get some feed back/ ideas from you awsome builders. with time I hope to be a full fledged MOC'er..... but for now here's where I'm at http://aussielegofans.forummotion.com/lego-history-pirates-f5/updated-pirate-wip-t421.htm please comment as I'd really like to know what you think ....I'm thick skinned and the first two Edited October 29, 2010 by TazManiac Quote
Admiral Ron Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I like it. It has a very hustle-and-bustle kinda feel about it, which I think works well with a port. I dont know what your brick situation is, but it would look a lot better if you add some more buildings and perhaps another docking spot? Keep up the great work! Quote
Tazmaniac Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Cheers Thats the idea hope to have at least 6 buildings so far I've only done 3 and the MMV will not be present in the final build. as far as bricks go I'm always trying to increase my collection (BL) but have hit a wall as far as roof tiles windows and doors are concerned so updates will be slow but steady. Cheers for your comments they go a long way ps updates all down that page so keep scrolling! Edited October 28, 2010 by TazManiac Quote
CCOOK Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) You asked me to check this out in my post; it looks pretty good. The action and all of the minifigures adds a lot of character to this. This is like the kind of stuff I made back when I only did what I call "classical" MOCs - I basically made MOCs with traditional styling (lots of open studs and minifigures from the 1989 to 1996 era). It's a different style and is in no way inferior to the newer styling that so many people endeavor to duplicate (i.e. everything decked or cobbled, stairwells to every floor - in other words unlike a traditional LEGO playset). This reminds me of a traditional LEGO playset that's intended for everybody - I still have a really old MOC of a dock with the "Skull's Eye Schooner" and "Black Seas Barracuda" docked with it, all with old minifigures, and I'll never tear it down. Build more and look at some of the other MOCs on here - I've never taken to the tiled water that a lot of the experts utilize, but that's not a big deal - I can buy the necessary tiles to re-vamp my MOCs with this any time. The biggest problem with the larger and more detailed MOCs is the cost and rarity of the parts; I can afford the absurd prices for these parts, but a lot of other people cannot, and it really is not fair - all of this is just plastic sh*t and is worth practically nothing but for the pleasure of construction and display. You should have seen the insane prices I paid for the sails for this beast, but at the time I didn't care and was willing to pay anything for them. Anyway, great MOC and hope to see more from you soon! -CCOOK Edited October 28, 2010 by CCOOK Quote
Capn Frank Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I really like how the buildings are not perpendicular to the dock. Do you plan on building any more MOC structures? I would add some dark tan, and light bley to the "road". Quote
Tazmaniac Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 cheers for the comments guys, yes I do plan to make more buildings for this MOC. I don't quite understand adding "dark tan light blue on the road"? do you mean studs or 2x2 tiles or some thing else Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Arrrr, Taz.....people should go and visit your coopers house for a barrel of a time and then the gun smith's - and that's no shot in the dark - arrrr ! Great work like I said over on ANZFOL dude, keep it up - now the world wants to see what you'll end up creating and man, I think it's going to be BIG ! Keep on......going Arrrrrr ! Quote
Tazmaniac Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 An update on the port but still a WIP and the shape may be reworked again still too square IMO, but I would love to hear yours, sorry about the flash flare. Quote
prateek Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Awesome! IMO, it's not too square. Just add some boats, and some chaos going on in the streets, and it will look better Quote
Mr. Gray Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Awesome! IMO, it's not too square. Just add some boats, and some chaos going on in the streets, and it will look better Agreed. Right now, it seems to me, that there are too many blue coats just standing around. Adding a few drunken pirates will really finished it off. Quote
Captain Becker Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Great MOC so far, but i dont like the cannon inside of the weapon smith. Why? Well, the customer comes in, the chain fails and brokes and the cannon drops, and cannon smashes the customer So maby you should put the cannon outside of the building. Otherly. Its good so far Captain Becker Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Cheeky, you posted on ANZFOL and EB at the same time....I do the same thing now..well mostly ! Again AWESOME work, great SNOT water in the harbour and well, that cannon issue....you could say it's the customer relations department ! Keep on going ARRRRRR ! Quote
Darth Yogi Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Very good so far. It looks nice and big and smooth. Great job Quote
Tazmaniac Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 The third building finally gets an interior .... So obvious it's silly what good is a coppers without a brewer to sell barrels to? RUM!! and lots of it, that'll fill their tums and get them rolly polly . Quote
Erdbeereis Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 This is starting to look excellent! I really like what your did with the interiors; adding interiors to a building really makes it much more interesting. The keg on the lower level is probably my favorite part. Great work! Quote
Masked Builder Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 That's great! Every thing looks good so far. Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 This is looking very nice, and you have certainly done well for someone whos just starting out. Ive always liked ports and the quaint look that some of them have. I like that you're building different tradesmen houses as it adds depth. Keep up the good work. Quote
Honeybee Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 What a very neat little moc, very detailed! Shame you couldnt finish the water off but it looks very good.... Well done! Quote
