To SpiderSpaceman: Not to worry you or anything, but that screen you got...well, I got it too and soon after my graphics card fried. The polygons grew out from a "move" in LDD and eventually froze the program and computer. After that happened maybe 3-4 times, the card died and I never got to see me screen with it again.

Just a warning, but I really hope that doesn't happen for you.

As for LDD 4.0.... WOOOOOOHHOOOO!!!!! super excited. I'm making a back-up of LDD 3 just in case, but this is awesome!

yeah I immediately dialed it back to the minimum settings

I'm not too disconcerted about it

sorry to hear about your card

Most minor nitpick: it kind of irritates me that coming back from a search opens all your dividers. just a little kink in the workflow

More brick analysis :classic:

Here is a list of all new parts in LDD 4, as Excel-file and LXF.

(Yepp, the LXF is generated in LDD Manager, I didn't manually put them square like that )

haha yeah, yikes. that's quite a footprint

Thanks a ton though, this is gonna be great to look over

Great find.

Aren't these new too?

That cylinder is definitely something I've never ever seen before

EDIT: oh yeah but it's just a subpart. so I don't know. could it be the midsection of a pneumatic tank in current or past technic sets? i'm not familiar enough with it

and I didn't even notice the new trapdoor! at a glance I would have assumed they were 30041 and 30042, but you're right - they've eliminated some bulkiness, added some connection points and standardized the pins. loving it.

Looks like some Star Wars fans are going to be very happy. Guess that Storm Trooper helmet before wasn't just an accident then.

I certainly am!

I love all the new parts available. It's a shame they're not decorated, but the great selection makes up for it Now I get to remake all my sets!

It will of course take plenty of time to get used to the new layout and colour names, but I'm sure I'll get it in the end. Does somebody know where I can find a converter for the names of the colours. I can't stand these new names!

EDIT: Ha ha! 'Boosk'.

The piece count feature also counts the pieces you have selected, so if you want to know how many pieces are in a certain section of your model, you can now select it and the piece count will show how many pieces there are.

Well, two bricks I found are kind of special in that you can multi-color them

The first one is 30367, which you can "color" as an R2-D2. I guess you like that :classic:

However, the other one (1x1 tile) is most likely a bug. This one is also kind of dangerous, because if you re-color the brick, you will only see the "top" color being changed, but the rest of the brick will still be the orginal color (and that is the color that the brick "is").

I found a chart myself on Peeron. Here it is for anyone else who prefers the Bricklink names.

Multi-colour bricks are great, such as the clone pilot helmet as demonstrated further up the page.

Black visor markings on the helmets would be good, though.

I don't think those markings are for R2 as he has half white and half silver, which you can't do. It beats a plain white dome, though. :classic:

I find it strange that it has all of the new Grievous parts from one set but not the battle droid head from hundreds! :sceptic:

Cool. Some nice new things to play with. Indiana Jone train track for those smaller models... And now I can finish off my small model diesel engines... and perhaps find time to continue with the Carousel...

Thanks LDD team.

There's a similar issue with the Atlantis fish warrior armor plate (part 89917). You can color the inside surface a different color than the outside surface. If you can't tell, I've upgraded my graphics driver now and LDD is running smoothly.

I love that the colors are now labeled-- I can now just refer instantly to the color I want-- but I don't necessarily like how they're now arranged. And it'll take forever to get used to scrolling to the top of my screen to use the paint and eyedropper tools rather than to the bottom.

What I'm celebrating is that now every color used in BIONICLE is available on LEGO Digital Designer. I'll post my BIONICLE color chart to my Brickshelf shortly.

SWEET!!

I don´t have time to write something really... I am off to LLD instead.

p.s Good namechange of the title Kalle!

The previous one was confusing :hmpf:

Argh I can't use "draw lines on bricks" and "put advanced shading to max" on my notebook!

Why to lock that function? It would be useful for screenshots even if too much heavy for the machine while working!

I can't use it on my computer either! I want new textures!!!

Looks like we get a new crowbar, SW guns, Ventress's lightsaber, tommy gun, PoP pieces (Camel and Ostrich FTW!!!), and NinjaGo pieces.

EDIT: And we get capes! w00t!

I just found a really big bug with LDD 4! If you stick a collection of hinge plates together in a line and then rotate them, it leaves one hinge half behind!! Eek!

I'm also ticked off that all greys, whites and blacks are in one swatch. White, light grey, dark grey, and black should all have their own swatches.

So far my only disappointment is they didnt even add 1 head or torso decal  granted there is alot for the heads but c'mon give us some more torso decorations.

Just got it installed, so I haven't had time to fully experiment, but I'm really liking the extra parts info like the official part number, and having names for the colors in the color palette is something that (i think) wasn't there before and should be quite useful. :sweet:

And very light gray, I assume?

It'll take some getting used to, but I have no problem with all the neutral colors being in one category. It's a lot more frustrating for me that sand yellow and brick yellow are now under brown, and that bright yellowish orange is now under orange. That's going to really take a lot of time to get the hang of.

An update on this bug: I've been trying to reproduce it but it apparently won't reproduce. Maybe I encountered a temporary glitch or they fixed it on the fly? I'm hoping so, if I encounter the circumstances I get it under I'll try to get a screenshot!

I'm sorry to be the one who spoils all the fun but... I'm the only one feeling tricked???

Yeah, the flex tool it's fun but, where are those nice feats we where waiting for months?

There is still a HUGE lack of pieces. Most of my models will remain incomplete yet, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel cheated, it's a shame that lego treat this way his costumers. Considering how much we have spend in the last decades they could we us AT LEAST a tool to make our own bricks...

Well, I'm not sure what you mean. There are lot of new features we've been wanting - angles input in hinge tool, part ID in statusbar, search functions, more bricks, tons of fixed bugs that we fans have reported etc. Also LDD is free which is also kind of a nice feature.

I don't have universe anymore, any ideas why? Using it on a Mac.

I fixed it using the 'old trick' so the new installation emptied the preferences.ini file again.

Hi,

here are my consideration after about half an hour of testing:

PROs

- the new graphic is amazing

- the FLEX tool is really funny, but works only on 2 or 3 parts. I didn't find how to curve the 'outer cable'. Have anyone a list of parts that can be curved?

CONs

- the hinge tools rotation seems no longer support deformation of quads hinge connected parts

- many features are still missed like a basic mirror copy or building

- many (too many) missed parts

- no support for animation especially for technic models

- you still have to manually rotate parts to connect them (for example to connect an axle with an axle hole)

- when you want to hinge rotate a part having more than one rotating axle, you cannot choose the rotation axle

- placing gears is annoying: you have to rotate then in a way their tooth don't collide before placing

I'm sorry, but I still don't like it... anyway this is just my opinion

When I first got LDD 4, Universe wasn't available, but the old unlock still works fine for me. I've got it running on Snow Leapard.
