Governor Mister Phes Posted May 11, 2006 Governor Posted May 11, 2006 Its definitely not in any of the catalogues I've seen but Fibblesnork's LEGO Guide has them under the "Dark Forest" section or released in 1996 section. Now that you mention it I can't find it in the peeron catalogue scans either, however it is in a magazine I own (the standard box filler from 96)...odd... Don't suppose you could get a scan of that magazine Mr Norro? There could be some castle fans here dying to see! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 well it seems it was part of a three set series:6079 6046 6024 still, i don't have any idea why lego decided to release those in 1996. They fit more or less into the late 80's castle sets, but not 1996. I guess they did sell it as "parts packs" more then actual sets of a theme. The Dark Forest sets came out a year after the Royal Knight sets. Two small Royal Knight sets also came out that year, so maybe they were supposed to be a 'bad guy' theme to go against the Royal Knights? Quote
Norro Posted May 12, 2006 Author Posted May 12, 2006 The Dark Forest sets came out a year after the Royal Knight sets. Two small Royal Knight sets also came out that year, so maybe they were supposed to be a 'bad guy' theme to go against the Royal Knights? They were definately a foil for the royal knights (hence their inclusion in one set) and the pics in (my elusive not yet scanned mag) show them engaging the king (with his own silver sword...) That is why I considered these dragon knight figs as a clearout of extra parts (especially that black knight shield). It is also worth noting that the dragon knight in the Royal Knight Bridge had a black knight shield... obviously Lego had a few lying around... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 15, 2006 Governor Posted May 15, 2006 So why arean't these Dark Forest dudes in any of the 1996 LEGO Catalogues? Did they have a limited release like only in Northern America and it just so happens that the 1996 Northern Americian LEGO Catalogue isn't available at Peeron.com. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but someone has just posted some nice pitures of this set on Brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=185246 Quote

Dreamweb Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Now that this guy has presented various stages of construction, I've noticed this set has a really nice baseplate to which I didn't pay much attention before. Quote
Norro Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 Now that this guy has presented various stages of construction, I've noticed this set has a really nice baseplate to which I didn't pay much attention before. One of the all time greats... as far as printed scenery goes. Pity the curve makes it irritating to connect multiple copies. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Jipay Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 By judging on the pictures, the set doesn't look that bad ! Quote
Norro Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 By judging on the pictures, the set doesn't look that bad ! it's funny how the recent drop in quality has made previously inferior old sets look more attractive... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Jipay Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 well, castle has been the sacrificed line for TLC. Not as much as pirates that completely disappeared though. But this set is definitly not that bad ! I think it has some good features that could provide entertainement for kids Quote
JoeMI6 Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 One great review again Norro. This set looks awesome, but it may, once again be out of my price range. NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! But thanks for enlightening me once again with another awesome review. Quote

Merkel Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I don't know about you guys, but this set looks fantastic to me. And it has much more features than previous Forestman sets and the figs are better too. Honeslty, I don't see anything wrong with this set, it's actually one of my favorite castle sets. Quote

Hey (and welcome), my negative comments come from comparisons with 6066 and 6071 both of which have more features and look more like how I would picture a hidden forestmen settlement...
