Flare Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Wow, what a way to join Eurobricks! Thanks so much for sharing, tl8! Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I MUST HAVE IT. Ahem. I simply need that model of the ISS. Awesome that it comes with a couple of spacecraft too, but I wish it also came with a microscale model of the Space Shuttle to dock with it. :) I see a MOC coming on! Quote
jonwil Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 As someone who has the original ISS model (and in fact the entire NASA line) that item looks COOL and (if it is in fact a set) is a must have. Quote
tl8 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Thanks for the welcome! I would not expect a shuttle with this set as it looks to be in scale with either Shuttle 2011 or Shuttle Adventure. Some guessing at the size leads me to believe it could be 45 x 96 studs to 67 x 143 studs. (Based on the core being 4 studs in diameter or 6 stud in diameter) Also a Lego piece from a shuttle set (Adventure?) went up on STS-132. I have not been able to find additional information yet. As for speculation, if this is a real set (I am not 100% sure it is yet) then a March release date is likely (Sourced from other threads about 2011 sets) Quote

Anyway, I've taken to using the new shuttle as a point of reference when trying to design a Shuttle Transport Aircraft on LDD. Of course, I wouldn't mind at all if LEGO rendered my efforts moot by releasing an actual set of a Shuttle Transport Aircraft-- in fact, I'd be mighty pleased. The old one from the Launch Command theme (early 90s) was a notable set from my childhood, so needless to say I'd love to see a new one based on today's more streamlined aesthetic. It would also be mostly to scale with the City theme's other jumbo jets, which makes things work out wonderfully. Quote
Baylego Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Yay I am so happy about this I just want to burst! I really like the NASA and space stuff as a hobby aside from Lego, so this makes me really happy! Quote
DarkDruid Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 If this is going to be an official set I'm totally getting it. I've always been fascinated by science and Lego. This is just the perfect combination. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Not my time of set, but ot's cool that NASA and LEGO work together. Quote
Corvus Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Wow. Lego blasting of into space, and now a new space station? As an owner of the first space station, it's going to be great getting a new version. It really was in need of an update. This new space theme is promising- hopefully it will get kids interested again in space exploration, and it's greatly needed, with all the trouble that NASA is looking at. Still, the only other set I'd like to see is another moon lander. I missed out on the Discovery version. It would be great to have a new one sitting on the shelf next to the shuttle and the space station. Quote

Delta 38 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 The space station looks cool, but it also looks big. I'll probably be skipping this set. Anyway, interesting news. Quote
Front Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Another two images from collectSPACE: This is 2003 sets. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Another two images from collectSPACE Those aren't new sets. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Well, according to FBTB, it's actually the second Shuttle in those pics flying. I guess they really mean business when they say it costs a ton of money to fly in space. Quote
Hinckley Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Another two images from collectSPACE: I looked for those! Where were they? Thanks for posting. http://brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Discovery Um, that's not the NASA line... This is 2003 sets. Not the top pic. I don't know what the top pic is from. I saw it on The Brothers-Brick but assumed it was a MOC. It'd kick megablocks if it were an official set. I need to see what context this picture was posted in. Quote

Fuzzylegobricks Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Thx Fuzzylegobricks! Yeah, I was thinking of the recent Space Shuttle I picked up in July for my son. We'd put it together and Moc a crawler for it and he can research the history of the shuttle since the final launch is soon an this can be his year end Science report. Now with these newer NASA sets...it's be great to include some educational booklets with it. I'm hopin'...;) yeah this is cool, and if it has those booklets with info about the real versions of the sets then the NASA company may get many young astronauts in 10 years! Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Um, that's not the NASA line... My bad, I misread what was going on. I thought we were talking about the last NASA theme, Discovery because someone posted the old pictures. To me that is the NASA theme and next year is just Space shoved into City. LEGO should have made the City Space sets just NASA sets. Quote
Cavannus Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 I don't understand why the most ugly/toyish/basic shuttle sets were chosen on these Nasa pages & photos. I mean that the recent 10213 Space Advendure shuttle is really appealing for both adults and children; it shows the Lego experience and looks like a serious model that is also a toy. I assume that this 10213 set is too pricey and the general public may think that Lego has become a luxury brand for rich people -- so Lego & Nasa directors prefer showing the most basic sets that match the general public's representation of Lego. Good observation. That might indeed be the idea behind not using the Adventure. Also, the Dacta shuttle may be more in-line with the message NASA wants to express about LEGO being a valuable educational tool for the "builders of tomorrow". Also, either the Adventure or the new Space sets would probably require applying stickers in space. Sounds like it could pose some problems. Anyway, I don't see what the problem with LEGO making next year's Space theme a non-branded City subtheme. I personally feel NASA branding would make it a lot harder to incorporate the sets in your general LEGO layout. Many creative liberties taken with spacesuits and spacecraft designs would feel unorthodox with sets that are meant to emulate the designs of a real space agency, whereas they just come off as creative in a standard LEGO theme. Plus, I love that LEGO's getting a chance to reuse the EPIC near-earth Space logo that debuted with the Shuttle Adventure. Quote

Whittleberry Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Yep the top pic is from the Go Miniman Go video. I like the look of the ISS set- and if those 2x4 tile solar panels are printed then that will be enough to make me buy it. I can't see them expecting a kid to stick on over 16 identical stickers. Then again, if they were printed then we probably wouldn't have ended up with stickered panels in the recent City house. Quote
snefroe Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 well i'm glad to see that space remains a theme for Lego in the next year(s), however, i'm not so much impressed by any of the sets. Quote
