Posted November 6, 201014 yr I recently downloaded LDD 4.0 while having 3.1.3. During that time with 3.1.3, I had a black, minifig torso suit, and I had the ability to change a minifig brick's suit torso to any color I wanted (I have LDD Universe). I also had a certain minifig head. I downloaded 4.0, but for some reason, when I opened one of my big files, there was nothing...as if the whole thing had been erased (the file was there, the contents were not). I wasn't satisfied by this, so I went back to LDD 3.1.3. When I downloaded it, the minfig torso had changed to white (I wanted to upload a picture, but it wouldn't let me). I could change the color of the back and the sleeves, but not the white part. To make matters worse, that minifig head I referred to earlier had changed back to an older version. When I had first downloaded 3.1.3, it had that same white torso and that same old minifig head. After a week or so, however, LDD 3.1.3 had been updated and had changed the torso to black and the minifig head to the way I had now had it until LDD 4. Do yall know of any way I can change that white torso back to black and the head back to the head I want? The old head (the one it got changed back to and that I don't want) is in the picture. Thanks!
November 6, 201014 yr Author I had the same problem, I think it's just a bug what still needs fixing You had a problem opening a file in LDD 4? Or getting back the suit bricks?
November 6, 201014 yr You had a problem opening a file in LDD 4? Or getting back the suit bricks? oh, I have actually had both problems
November 6, 201014 yr Hi there TheCAF. I'm not sure I understand the problem just yet. But maybe it will grow on me In the meantime, let's see what some of the other gurus here at the LDD forums have to say.
November 7, 201014 yr Did you reinstall LU mode? Downloading LDD 4 should be like a clean install; I think it reverts the preferences.ini file to default.
November 7, 201014 yr Author Did you reinstall LU mode? Downloading LDD 4 should be like a clean install; I think it reverts the preferences.ini file to default. I did reinstall LDD 3, that's when the two things changed back to something I didn't want. What would I have to do with the preferences button?
November 7, 201014 yr I did reinstall LDD 3, that's when the two things changed back to something I didn't want. What would I have to do with the preferences button? No, I asked if you reactivated Universe mode after installing LDD 4.
November 7, 201014 yr Author No, I asked if you reactivated Universe mode after installing LDD 4. Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, I did reactivate LU for LDD 4.
November 7, 201014 yr I can take off LU if that would help. Wouldn't that make things worse, since you'll be opening an LDD 3 LU file without LU?
November 8, 201014 yr Author Wouldn't that make things worse, since you'll be opening an LDD 3 LU file without LU? Yeah...sorry, I'm brain dead today xP. What would I have to do to make it easier for you?
November 8, 201014 yr Yeah...sorry, I'm brain dead today xP. What would I have to do to make it easier for you? Quite frankly, I'm out of ideas. Sorry.
November 8, 201014 yr Wouldn't that make things worse, since you'll be opening an LDD 3 LU file without LU? Opening an LU file without LU shouldn't do anything to change what parts LDD will load. You can easily download a model from online that contains LU parts, and it should load correctly whether or not you have activated LEGO Universe mode. Anyway, the minifigure suit and face which you're discussing were both parts known to be buggy in earlier versions of Digital Designer. Since the patch that corrected this issue was an automatic web update, I don't think there's a way to get it fixed again without updating to LDD 4. As for your model "disappearing" when you opened LDD 4, I can explain perfectly why this was. The preferences you had for LDD 4 were set to allow graphics higher than your computer could handle, and thus the parts did not get rendered at all. This used to happen whenever I tried to activate brick outlines on my models: all my models would become invisible. Apparently, there has since been an update to LDD 4 that makes it impossible to activate brick outlines and super-advanced shading if your computer does not have a sufficient graphics driver. This means if you re-download LDD 4 I imagine it will not have this problem again. And if it does, even then there is a solution: go to the preferences.ini file (the one where you activate LU mode in the first place). There should be a line reading "CompatibilityModeLevel=0" Change the "0" to a "5" to put LDD on "Safe Mode"-- it may run slowly, but you can later gradually reduce the compatibility mode level until you have it at a place where it will not crash or have trouble loading. You can also put "No" for the options "Use Round Edges", "Use Shaders In Scene", and "Use Shaders In Palette", also in the preferences.ini file. And you can make sure "SelectedPostProcessingEffect" is set to "0". What these options will do is basically set all the "optional" graphics updates for 4.0 to their lowest level, to the point that any computer that allows the installation of LDD 4 will be able to run it correctly. Chances are, this will hugely damage your LDD experience, and you will not need all these options at their lowest level, so if need be you can choose to adjust only some of these options and see if LDD works. Or, alternatively, you can set them all to their lowest level and selectively adjust them back to higher levels to see exactly what level your own computer will be able to handle. On my own computer, all of these options either at "0" or "no", except the "UseShadersInScene" option (which is set to "yes"). For a while, my compatibility mode level was set to 5, due to LDD crashing unexpectedly and going into safe mode automatically. But I gradually reduced it back to 0 and found that LDD has run smoothly ever since.
