legolijntje Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 These are all the same model with just different numbers/release dates/packaging. They could be moved to the regular listing. Sorry for the late reply, but I just checked (because I was updating my index file) and I think you misunderstood the "error" message. I know it is the same set with a differnt number, so I just include them all, but the link in there links to a totally different set that isn't any of the three; it links to 6814 Quote

I'm interested as well, after your first post here I tried my hand at Blender as well, however I couldn't get it to import my models. I'm working on a Mac, but after seeing your latest results with Blender I'm going to install Windows as well (I presume you are using Windows). Povray seems outdated and outgunned alongside your renders. Edited May 7, 2013 by lego2lego Quote

C3POwen Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Povray seems outdated and outgunned alongside your renders. That's not necessarily true. POV-Ray has the ability to create scenes on a par with Blender, but the trick is knowing how to do that. I've updated my image for "4000008 Villy Thomson Truck" a few posts above with a POV-Ray render that uses HDR lighting and a blurred reflective floor. With enough tinkering, I would imagine I can get my colour/material definitions to look even more realistic, but it's a slow process. POV-Ray and Blender both have their pluses and minuses - it just depends on preference. I've put some effort into updating the LGEO library for POV-Ray, so will probably stick with that - although I'm still interested in how @juraj3579 gets his renders looking so good! Quote

You are right, i'm probably a bit frustrated that my renders take generally a lot more time than the 45 mins his take. I've been tinkering as well, but HDR lighting has a drawback that you are limited in your camera angle, and it affects the colours of your build. I tried an HDR probe taken on a glacier, and the build got an bluish glow because of the ice. But in some instances it's great, and sometimes it's hard to tell if it's a render or real, but I find that the Blender images have a certain "crispness" to them, if that makes any sense? Mine turn out with some sort of haze, blurring the colours. Edited May 3, 2013 by lego2lego Quote
juraj3579 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 891-1: Two Seater Space Scooter [space/Classic 1979] 891-1: Two Seater Space Scooter by juraj3579 891.l3b I'll post my workflow shortly. I want to clean up my blender script a little bit, if someone wants to use it later. As for the discussion POV-Ray vs. Blender. I think the Models rendered in POV-Ray are really good, maybe you can consider also a little bit image post processing after the render if you are not happy with the outcome. I'm using also a little bit of contrast, brightness correction and also a little bit of sharpening to give the render final touch. In both of the software, you have to go through quite a long process of try and error, till you get the satisfying results. It was also quite a pain in Blender to get all the things working, which i wanted to achieve (smooth edges, hard edges, smooth studs, logo etc.). However, what i like on blender is that you can directly see, what are you doing in case of composing and lightning (in cycles actually the real-time render) by moving the lights and camera. Also the blender is a huge in all it's functions (wondering, that it's still free) and has a big community with a lot of tutorials, so you don't have to invent the wheel again by your self. On current state, I'm pretty satisfied with the results. It has still some issues with the mesh topology, but for now I can live with it. As said, the workflow will follow in a brief steps, maybe also bit deeper, if someone is interested. Quote

I'll get the other models (there are two more) up as soon as I can. If anyone is interested in how or why I chose the sets that I have, I am trying to fill in the gaps in the Star Wars sets, and I started with sets that I do not own. It was a shorter list than the ones I do own, and I also get a sense of what it's like to build them. I'll get to the other half eventually. Quote

The missing Star Wars sets seem more like craters to me I too mostly choose sets I don't own and sometimes a set to fill in a gap. I have a table where I can see what's missing from a specific theme in the index, so that's easy to spot one Quote
