Dirty Bert Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Ok...I have tried a few things and they just are not sturdy enough. Would someone/anyone be able to help with some ideas for building tall strong masts? I am working on an 8 section and could use the help. I tried to upload some pics but I guess they were big. Quote
Captain Genaro Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Do you use rigging ( String or pre-fab)? Even on real ships, rigging helped to hold up the masts. Other than that, it is hard for me to give suggustions since I don't know what you are building with. Quote
Dirty Bert Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 I plan on building with rigging. I have seen some mast designs that have string wrapped all the way around the mast like a sheath. Then tied from the first crows nest down to the deck. I plan on doing that just not sure which way to get started with. Are the 2x2 round bricks sturdy enough? I know about putting the technic rods in them but there always seems to be a weak point when I do it. Just getting frustrated. Also, How can I upload pics? Sorry for all the questions. I am new to this forum and not sure about a few things as of yet. Thanks. Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Welcome to the forums Bert! For posting pictures, there are two major methods. I am guessing you tried to upload the pictures onto the Eurobricks servers and they were too large. The other method is to post the images somewhere else on the internet and then link the pictures to your posts here on Eurobricks. The two most frequently used places to post your pictures among the Eurobricks community are Flickr and Brickshelf. To use the second method and link your pictures into posts, first create a Flickr or Brickshelf account. I have a Brickshelf account. It is free to sign up for one by clicking this link here After you have done so, you can upload your pictures into a brickshelf folder. Once they are uploaded there, you can post links to your pictures or an entire brickshlef folder by copying the URL of the brickshelf webpage and click the link button when posting a message. The link button looks like this . If you copy the URL of an image only (in other words, just the picture and not the whole webpage) you can post the image by clicking this button when posting a message here on Eurobricks. There is some other useful information on formatting links right here Quote
Erdbeereis Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Just follow ZCerberus's directions, and you should be good to go! Welcome to the forum. Quote
Dirty Bert Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 Thanks guys. I am in the middle of a build and would like to get feedback on my ship so far. I like the brickshelf idea as I have been looking at pics there for a while. I am going to give it a try and post again. Quote
Dirty Bert Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 Not sure what I am doing wrong with posting pics but here is my flikr link... http://www.flickr.com/photos/55910652@N03/?saved=1 Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Not sure what I am doing wrong with posting pics but here is my flikr link... http://www.flickr.com/photos/55910652@N03/?saved=1 That works! Here at the actual pics for those of you who are too lazy to click the link. What I did that you might not have done was this... I clicked on each picture you took. I right clicked on the picture to pick a size to display. I picked the smallest one. I then right clicked the picture again and clicked on "copy link location". Then I used the info I supplied you before to post the picture into the posts. If you're interested, here is what the information looks like in the post. Remove the * and that is what the code looks like. [img*]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/5177627556_3cbc322eb4.jpg[/img] Looks like a take on the USS Constitution. That is a great ship on which to base a model. It is flush decked so you don't have to worry as much about elevation changes, and it is just a pure classic! As far as things that might be improved, it looks a little too square at this stage for my liking. I also do not see a way to get to the lower deck from the upper deck... Dirty Bert Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 I agree...it is very square right now. I am working on the base and I will revise as I go. It is tough and I keep tearing down and rebuilding. Any suggestions are welcome as well. It is based on that ship and I agre it is a classic. I have to update my pics as there is a single set of stairs at the bow and there will be another set of stairs on deck #2 leading to the main deck. my pics arent very good right now. Quote
