me00rjb Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Excellent post, and another excellent model. To me, this is what Technic / Model Team is all about. While I enjoy looking at images of finished models, it's the mechanisms that interest me the most. I like to understand what a model does and how it works; very often you can't see this without videos, a good description or WIP / partially dismantled images, or a combination of both. It's also nice to know why something is a certain way, or why it wasn't done differently - therefore I appreciate it when people take the time to explain details and features that wouldn't otherwise be obvious or visible. Videos are also a great way of differentiating between a model that looks good, and a model that looks good and performs smoothly and reliably, which is perhaps the main challenge in building a good Technic model. Looking forward to further updates! Richard. Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 I'm a bit confused now... You made 2 trailers, each with a different system? Well, yes it is a double trailer combination. Picture below shows both trailers stacked. Last YouTube video is about the trailer on top. This video shows the trailer in real life. Again it is a double trailer combination. - therefore I appreciate it when people take the time to explain details and features that wouldn't otherwise be obvious or visible. Videos are also a great way of differentiating between a model that looks good, and a model that looks good and performs smoothly and reliably, which is perhaps the main challenge in building a good Technic model. Thank you very much buddy for the kind words. I know you appreciate what I do, thanks a lot. And yes I do agree, I do like to know more about a model my self too. I do like to share because I like other to share too... You are welcome and you are more then welcome to come back, updates will be available soon... Quote
Paul B Technic Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 This is looking really good. Paul Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Most difficult part in building this model was how to load the second trailer on top of the first one. I knew I would have to use a chain, but how to move on, that was the question. In my quest I ran in to problems with the links I used to create this chain. Searching the web I found this article on these links on TechnicBricks, but that didn't help me with my issue. I ordered a bunch of the so called re-enforced once, but that didn't make any change. Continuing to search for a solution I discovered the older type has been produced in two different kinds of ABS. A weak and a stronger one, the stronger one is what I needed, but how to make that clear to someone on BL. Lucky for me I found this fellow on BL that was willing to help me. I explained to him what I was looking for, he checked his over 200 links and he had just enough to help me out. As soon as the links had arrived I started to continue and this time it all just works great. In the initial design I wanted this chain to go to fast this way it would just snap. With more gearing this problem was solved. Below you'll find a sneak preview to see how it works. It is only partial because I have no wheels yet (they are being chrome plated), what is displayed is the part the support wheels carrying the dolly of the second trailer. As soon as the wheels have returned I'll start finishing the model and run some last tests. I'm sure some issues will submerge that I'll have to deal with. I'll do my best to finish this model before the end of 2010 as well as uploading a movie and pictures. I'll keep you all informed, please come back later... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOdXMUeWgY0 Quote

Tropy Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Am I wrong or i saw this MOC with a BLUE grid somewhere few months ago? One more thing, from this picture the first axel of the first trailer is a retractable one, does the MOC has this feature also? I mean it's so good and so beautiful that this additional detail would make it simply THE best. Edited March 20, 2011 by Tropy Quote
