MOC: X-Wing

Absolutely stunning. I think you got the proportions exactly right.

It's great to read some of the constructive criticisms, and yeah, the wings are a little thick, and a few studs here and there would be a fine thing. But I really don't care - it's just an awesome build with so many things going on all at once. I'm speechless and full of wonder.

Very smooth and nice built X-wing marshal_banana! I´m impressed by the overall look and the use of snot, and off course the cockpit. Critical feedback posted in previous posts aside, I think yours is in the pole position so far in minifig scale !

Really great work, marshall_banana. FallenAngel does have some valid criticisms, though. The engines should sit higher on the wing and/or be a bit larger. And the laser cannons on the end of the wings should be larger (probably 2 x 2) at the wing. I'd ignore his bit about the wings being too thick, though. I love the way the wings look.

And the windscreen is fantastic.

Just a fantastic original rendition.

I love the LEGO version and it's my favorite Star Wars model. It has the right shape and is extremely sturdy for play, but this one has it's own character(alot of character!!!). Like a signature of your work all over it rather than a redo of a Star Wars vehicle. Even though we know what it is, it's has a uniqueness all it's own that I love . Beautiful version. Instructions?(couldn't hurt to ask... )

I didn't mean to write it twice, that would take too long. I clicked the post button and then it didn't do anything, so i pressed the back button and then I guess it counted it twice and you must of quoted me before I could fix it, but oh well.

From what I can see, he uses hinges, similar to what lowlead did on his X-wing:

Although I suspect he may have gotten the idea from roguebantha, who did something similar with his model.

My only concerns are the proportions of your model. I think yours is a bit short - the distance between the nose and the beginning of the cockpit is short in revelance to the rest of the body. I don't know if I'm right, but this is how i see it.

Once more - great work! I'd like to see some action photos too! Like the pilot climbing to his chair and so on. Keep up the good work!

Actually, I thought the same thing when I saw how stubby the nose looked, but then I saw this photo and I realized it wasn't all that far off. I think that it might only look that way since we're so used to the long, skinny nose seen on the 4502 and 6212 X-wings. Not only that, but the nose of Wedge's X-wing is actually a bit thicker in relation to the rest of the body than those of other X-wings, so I think that might contribute to it looking too short.

Of course, there's also the possibility that the canopy is too large... but I could be wrong.

Hey guys. I'm quiet busy these days, so I'm sorry for my late replay. Thank you for the nice comments, compliments, constructive criticisms and the interesting disscussion. That is what I hoped would happen here on eurobricks.

There are some good points in here. I normally work with reference material on http://www.starshipmodeler.com/starwars/smith_sw.htm or similar web resources, so It was known before, that there are some miss matching details. As always building with bricks, brings decisions and compromises on every model. The small size sets the limitations high.

In this case, sure the way to small engine intakes and guns. I tried a hack out of different solutions but it ended all in less stability and problems with the folding mechanism. And yes I don't want to abandon the SNOT-wings. But there are some Ideas in my mind to solve the problem, I just have to wait for the next bricklink order. I'm also not that happy with the connection between nose and cockpit, the upper angle is to straight and the sides are not smooth enough.

As color schema light bluish grey as basic color with some white splashes would be more accurate. I would also love a sand blue canopy and solid red stripes on the sides.

But I'm quit happy how it turned out so far. The good thing about LEGO is, that you can easily and quickly adjust details till you are happy with the result.

I will come up with more details on this project. So stay tuned!

It's good to see that you are still trying to improve your model, marshal_banana. I agree with you that scale and parts limitations will often require compromise, especially in Minifig and MINI scales.

I was totally amazed by this MOC. Then I read some of the constructive criticism and looked around the net at some reference pics, and yes, there are some slight inaccuracies but as you say... working with bricks you have to make compromises.

Maybe the SNOT wings are slightly too thick, but the way the graphics are integrated into the wings is beautiful!

I remain totally amazed.
