I like the idea and most of the set, but it seems a bit too little for me. It's a lil' cabin, ok, but still it's more like a child set. My chubby fingers have difficults in there!

Still I really appreciate the mood and the atmosphere of the set.

And it's true: totally recall Rocky's cabin :D

I am ALL over this, obviously... Possibly my favorite new set of the year, just because I've wanted something along these lines for... well, ever. Just wish there was a little dock on there as well, and it probably could've looked a bit better with more of the traditional log wall bricks we've seen so much in the Western and Pirate sets.

The fig is okay... but as far as I'm concerned, this is where the dude with the 3178 Seaplane lives...

This review plus your comment is what's making me want to buy this set. Indeed the Seaplane would look nice with this set.

Thanks for the review.

I really try hard to focus ONLY on the City line, but there are so many other beautiful sets out there. :-(

This one really is a Must-Have.

Excellent review TheBrickster! Very nice presentation using the wooden backdrop for the photos. I also like the comparison photo with the classic Rocky River Retreat. default_thumbup.gif

Regarding the set, my opinion has not changed from my initial judgment of this set back when the prelims surfaced. I still feel the previous two Creator houses (Beach House & Apple Tree House) is better than this one. It's not that bad actually, it's just that Beach House kinda 'set the bar too high' in terms of Creator House designs that this one pales in comparison.

I think it was an average build, a bit simple.... but the amount of flats are nice and the fact it has roof angles is a very good plus... but like many other personal revues, it is very simple and if you have or like the farm theme, this set would go hand and hand with them... but I run mostly city type theme in a small town setting so if I added it to the village it would stand out like a lime colored Lamborghini in a car show in a bad way...

on a plus, the amount of brown bricks is very nice... most sets neglect certain colors, you know? :hmpf_bad:

so if you in the need for brown bricks, this is a set you should buy(I may buy 2-3 of them for just spare bricks alone) "AFTER" the holiday when most stores are doing the buy 2 get one free sales...

Great pics in this thread... I liked the details a lot... thank you

Thanks for a great review Brickster!

Although this looks like a simple build it does look like a decent set, I really like the little things like the bricks extending out to produce that log-look.

The colour scheme and design are well done, and I love the boat and stream along side the cabin.

Thanks for the review!

Nice review, thanks. Nice to see a set with a different colour scheme.

For me, the highlights of this set is the new 8x16 and 16x16 plates. They are just much more useful than base-plates.

I bought this set last week and I am very pleased with it. Unlike the main model, the alternate models do have a little furniture on the interiors.

One odd thing about this set is that there isn't a window pane for the small attic window in the main model. It isn't a big deal but it would've been nice for it to have one.

I've been wanting this set since I first read your review, Brickster. I finally got it today, and it did not disappoint at all. I love the classic construction, and the hinged wall allows it to look complete standing on the shelf and be accessible for my kids to play with it. (My youngest informs me the minifig is named Bubba, by the way). The alternate builds are also really nice. If I had the money for it, I'd like to buy another couple of these and use the alternate models to build a whole riverside campground. I definitely want to buy one more when they go on clearance at the end of the year, because those dark red slopes are amazingly useful. But even at MSRP I think you get good value here.

I do find the tree very strange, and really would have prefered to have a molded tree, or at least some leaf pieces. But I understand that this is the Creator philosophy, and those tooth pieces are useful for other things. The duck in one of the alternate builds uses the tooth pieces and is fabulously cute. Maybe I'll chop that tree down and raise me some ducks.

Enjoyed your review, Brickster.

Just finished putting my set together. Fun little build. The little boat is cool and I don't mind the tree.

I love the new dark red roof tiles and it's nice to have a ample source of additional beige window frames and an extra door frame. The standard plate bases are good because they are more versatile pieces than baseplates.

Hopefully we'll see some more complex roof tile parts in this nice dark red colour down the line.

I gave this an above average and think it's a great addition to the Creator theme.

Hi there,

I gave this an average rating as for me it doesn't leap straight out at me but the addition of the minifig is nice, I'd also like TLG to continue this kind of 'wilderness' theme, eg. bringing back the polar bear mold but brown. I think I will get this set in the future, the parts will be useful and I might have a go to make it more 'logish'. I also voted the beach house because I liked all the windows and doors and roof tiles you get with it.

I put this set together over the weekend. I have made other creator houses, like the Beach House, Apple Tree House, and Family Home. The cabin is a little smaller and less detailed than the other Creator houses. I think for $30, it's a pretty average deal. I wish it had some more intricate bricks to add to my collection though. The other houses seemed to offer more windows, doors, and unique colors.

I really liked the kayak in this set. The backpack is cool too.

I wish this set had more greenery. I mean it's a cabin! The tree build was a little strange. I think even one or two of the <insert that tiresome argument> pine trees would have been cool, or at least some flowers. In general, I've been on the lookout for Lego sets that can be mined for parts to make foliage and general wildlife.

P.S. Most places seem to be selling this set for a little less than MSRP, at least here in the US.
