Posted May 31, 200519 yr Governor Thanks to Lucajuventino for providing a link to www.1000steine.com, I found the following MOC: Monkey Skull Island More images here... I wonder if the creator was inspired by the Monkey Island games?
July 17, 200519 yr Author Governor From the back... No pictures of the interior to be found! There's no Email contact so I can't ask the creator either. Oh well
May 14, 200618 yr Hello there everyone, This MOC was built a year ago, for the ISCC contest. Well, the results were never announced and I don't know if this was worthy for a prize. Anyways, I think this is my "the most original" work since I've started building. It's basically a hide out for my pirate character to hide away his treasure. The Island used to be a chunk of rock, but it was carved into a monkey head. Enought talk, the link to the gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1205668 I hope you enjoy it.
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Would ya be surprised that your fame has preceded you? We've already got a thread for your MOC called "The Secret of Monkey Skull Island" however it doesn't appear to have got a very good response! So I'll leave this thread here because this time we're going to do it properly! :-D Its always good to have the creator of the MOC posting on the message board in case we have any questions about it. And the question I've always wanted to ask is: Was this MOC inspired by the Lucas Arts graphic Adventure, The Secret of Monkey Island?
May 14, 200618 yr Very nice, and definately unique! The skull is a little sheer and white for me but I think the whole MOC still comes off very nicely... God Bless, Nathan
May 14, 200618 yr OooOOO... Cool! :) Well now you can ask all the questions you want :). The truth is, I didn't play Monkey Island 2 (I think that screenshot is from that game right?) and didn't even know such a monkey head model existed, but the similarity is incredible. But I won't hide the fact that I love Monkey Island Series (eventhough I missed a few :) ).
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Actually, the screen shot comes from The Secret of Monkey Island which is the first game in the series. There are only 4 games in the series and 1 and 2 are the best, and can easily be acquire online if you know where to look. *Cough* P2P clients *Cough* Shareaza *Cough* Kazaa *Cough* Morpheus *Cough* Not that I'd have any idea where to look, but definitely play the first two. So if not Monkey Island, what was your inspiration for this giant Monkey Skull?
May 14, 200618 yr Most of the abandonware pages should have it. I must dig it up :). Anyways, on to your question: I really don't know what inspired me to build it. I remember sitting around, trying to come up with something to build for the contest (something Pirate related of course). All of a sudden, I thought: "Monkeey... yes, a monkey is a piratey animal" and then : "Hmm and island would be cool and refreshing" and then finally :"I found it, an island shaped like a monkey!". I've thought of building something bigger, but lacked the pieces at the time. Actually if I find the time these day, I may try a revamped version of the island with and interior and so. Now that'd be awesome :). (Btw, pirate theme was the thing that got be building again and I'm grateful for it. Some of you may be shocked by this, but Pirates have been my favourite theme. I love it more than I ever loved castle.)
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Always pleased to have another Pirate LEGO fan here! Now that PirateBricks.com seems to have closed permanently Eurobircks might be able to offer a place for Pirate LEGO fans to continue their Pirate LEGO discussions. I'm current working on the ultimate Pirate LEGO discussion forum which I hope to have open in the near future. What can you tell us about the ISCC contest? I don't even know what ISCC stands for!
May 14, 200618 yr What can you tell us about the ISCC contest? I don't even know what ISCC stands for! International System Creativity Contest... (I think) featured some of the best MOCs I've ever seen... God Bless, Nathan
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Excellent work Mr Norro! Now my next question for Mr Scnicker is how well did your MOC go in this competition?
May 14, 200618 yr Well, we never GOT the results! I know it would have won a prize (since prizes were given according to theme+MOC size), but as I've said, the winners were never announced. I still hold a grudge against 1000steine.de because I've worked so hard on this MOC. Well hope never dies, maybe after one year, they may announce the winners eh? (and I was going to pick up an old pirate set if I had won.)
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Fear not Mr Scnicker this MOC will not be under appreciated at Eurobricks! Was it 1000steine.de that was holding the competition? Was there any particular reason the winners weren't announced? And have you asked those responsible for the competition as to why no winners have been announced?
May 14, 200618 yr Thanks Mister Phes!! Yes, it was hosted by 1000steine.de. I really don't know if there was a particular reason for canceling it. I've e-mailed the responsible people, but got no replies. They just chose to ignore me and after a while I gave up. I think they didn't want to pay up.
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Which pirate set would you have recieved as a reward? Did you get to choose or did 1000steine.de decide what the prizes were?
May 14, 200618 yr We got to choose to prize. I was planning to get the 6258:Smuggler's Shanty. http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Set=6258-1
May 14, 200618 yr Author Governor Ahhhhhhh Smugglers Shanty! Is that the biggest they'd allow? :-D Anyway, back to your MOC: One of the burning questions would be: Does it have an interior? The dingy disappearing into what appears to be a cavernous mouth gives the impression that there would be something on the inside, but is there actually anything in there? Its somewhat of a tease how you've done that!
May 14, 200618 yr U-uh. This MOC was built at a time that I was still a rookie. I had too much difficulty building the outside that I didn't even bother with the interior, but as I've mentioned before, the possible revamped version will have interiors if I build it. Ideas are popping all over my head! (Btw, I feel like someone is interviewing me which is... nice :) )
May 15, 200618 yr Author Governor Just look at my title underneath my avatar Mr Scnicker - you could be more right than you know about being interviewed. I suppose it might annoy some users, but I like to find out everything I can about somebody's creation just to make it worth their while for spending all their time on it. Other users may also want to know certain information but can find the words to ask, so I try to be as thorough as possible! Revamped version you say? You thinking about continuing work on it?
May 15, 200618 yr That's nice of you to do Phes :-). I've deconstructed the original one ages ago, so this "revamped" version will be bigger and badder! Here're somethings that I'm planning to include in it: -Of course a bigger monkey head with better landscaping -Interior with lots of cavern details -A good amount of treasure -I'll try to integrate a light mechanism to the MOC so that it can be used as a display in the house. -More foliage -A secret emergency exit Hope that enlightens you :-)
May 16, 200618 yr Author Governor Yes, I'm a very enlightened and look foward to seeing Monkey Skull Cave version 2! But as for this version. I've noticed you've got a couple of Imperial Guards scaling over the top and it makes me wonder what they're up to. Why have you included the Imperial Guards? Are they one some kind of mission to foil the Pirate from doing something?
May 16, 200618 yr Right on spot! In Piratebrick's RP, my character used this place as a base of operations. As far as I remember, there was a part in RP that French snooped the island, but were cought and executed. That's why I've included the soldiers.
May 16, 200618 yr I am also looking forward to the new island. Your first one is looking good and if you are making it even better then I want to see it. -Of course a bigger monkey head with better landscaping-Interior with lots of cavern details -A good amount of treasure -I'll try to integrate a light mechanism to the MOC so that it can be used as a display in the house. -More foliage -A secret emergency exit Sounds like some nice features.

I'm terrible with accronyms...
