exon_from_youtube Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) What year did you start Bricking? 1970-1979 1980-1989 1990-1999 2000-2010 Or this year this was back in 1984, It was Xmas and my moms side of the family gave me nothing but legos that year, I must have had like 40+ boxes and well this was the one I loved so dearly back then.... still have most of the parts but I removed the stickers later on, like the bike store logo and window stickers.... After fining it today, my heart stopped and well, I am going to pick it up used now and rebuild it in my town.... Wow, I never felt nostalgic before like this... Thats the reason I posted this thread, may who ever posts back have the same feelings as me right now. Edited November 28, 2010 by exon_from_youtube Quote
escortmad79 Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 1980-89, first big set I had was 6385 Fire House 1: Sold my original one but picked one up at the start of the year Quote
Zorbas Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 This is interesting for one more reason because I think that the first significant building actually meant the beginning and foundation of our towns/cities layouts, at least in my case. I already had a variety of vehicles but getting a building is the turning point IMO. September 9th 1987. My 8th birthday and my first two big sets at the same day. The 6386 Police Command Base and the 6392 Airport. That was the day I realised that Town was my choice when it comes to LEGO. Quote
Iain Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 1970 - 1979 It was actually 1979 and I had the 675 snack bar set Unfortunately I no longer own it as I sold most of my early Lego sets on e-bay about 6 years ago Quote

I my self got the later version of that in it seemed 1985 great post Iain This is interesting for one more reason because I think that the first significant building actually meant the beginning and foundation of our towns/cities layouts, at least in my case. The best thing is, hey ya never know....some one may have got that set back then that you wanted your self or even got your self.... In other words, we can relate better to each other better if we know that intimate lego start in each and all of our lives... I just want to thank bricklink for this.... seeing that set really touched me and brought me back to that day it all started like you said... great post Zorbas, thank you 1980-89, first big set I had was 6385 Fire House 1: Sold my original one but picked one up at the start of the year I remember that one still on the shelf at TRU way back, but I never had the coin to buy that one...I liked it because it has that garage door keep bricking, thanks for the post Edited November 28, 2010 by exon_from_youtube Quote
rriggs Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 1979-ish for me. 379 was the first proper set I got: And I've still got it! Cheers Rog Quote
Rick Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 It was actually 1979 and I had the 675 snack bar set 1979-ish for me. 379 was the first proper set I got: I also am the proud owner of those two sets. The Bus station, until recently was really something unique. Until City Corner and Public Transportation Center, TLG didn't do buses (forget about the Sports buses) for 30 years! These two plus 361 Garage are my only buildings with three-digit set numbers, so one of those three must have been first. Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 1978 for me.....Target was one of the first major retailers to promote Legotown sets - first few sets were (and I wish I still had them )..... (first one ever) Then followed by...... Oh, I might start over what I'm missing. Keep on remembering ! Quote
Night City Dream Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 My first building was the Police headquarters from 1993. I still believe it was the best police station ever before the release of 7744. Quote
Galaxy Explorer Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 My first Town building was 590 Engine Co. No. 9. I remember saving my allowance for weeks to get this set. It cost me $18.99 at Target in the summer of 1980. I felt like I was in heaven! Green baseplates, hinge bricks, a round tree, just amazing! That set kicked off my 30 year obsession with Town-CITY. I sealed the deal later that year on my birthday when my Grandma got me Main Street! Quote
absolutelylez Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 For me, it was this baby: 6540 Pier Police It was my first set ever, actually. I loved the car, at that time I lived in PL and our real police ran about in crappy little cars just like that! I always wanted to extend the station with a jail and a helipad, and to link it to the other port sets they had, but.. well, I discovered Pirates and Castle instead ;) Quote
peterab Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Mine was Bricklink says it was released in 1969, but I think it may have been a bit later that I got it, since I was only three at the time. It was probably available for a few years. Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I do believe it was 10159 City Airport. A 1994 set, re-released for my Birthday in 2004. It was actually one of my first sets into the Town/City genre. Quote
exon_from_youtube Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 Wow... I was going to comment on all posts, but in the last 2 hours it went boom in this thread.... we will be on page two in no time...LOL Thanks again for contributing every one... I hope every city member adds at least one post keep bricking Quote
dr_spock Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) That was so long ago. I still have this one: Brickset says 1981. Edited November 29, 2010 by dr_spock Quote
DRM Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Mine was the fire station, 374, as pictured above. Hours of fun but sadly the clock sticker and the appliance bay numbers, plus the book sticker in the office have all disappeared. I will rebuild it soon though and keep it on display out the way of the children. Also had the snack bar as shown above. (Pictures not re-attached as they feature above in other posts). Quote
pacc Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 My oldest sets are the classic space Galaxy Explorer (497) and Command Center (493) from some happy christmas. Now that seems to have faded out into a bunch of smaller sets where the space ones remains as a bunch of wings, 20+ grey steering wheels and gadgets but the city cars just pops together if you sort out the parts by color... The oldest city set I've picked out from the old heap is the post office: Which is still great because it demands regular visits around all other houses and occupies most trucks loading and offloading boxes.... exon_from_youtube Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 I think this thread is going in the direction I planned... keep bricking every one and thanks every one that has and will be posting Quote

Jargo Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I think my first set with proper minifigs was 361: Garage. Or possibly 675: Snack Bar. My brother had 381: Police headquarters but I obviously favoured less authoritarian town settings. Quote
TypoCorrecto Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 My LEGO life started with 6673 Solo Trainer and 1682 Space Shuttle on Christmas of 1990. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 What a nostalgic topic. It's enjoyable to see all these Classic Town sets. Here's mine - I think the Brick Yard was my first real Town set, pre-dating moveable minifigs: And a number of sets re-constructed a few years ago for a Classic Town Restoration Project: Quote
Mr. Gray Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I'm not much of a Town/City person, but my very first set was a copy of 6424 for my birthday along with 6467 Power PitStop. Memories. :) Quote
locoworks Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 (edited) i can't find my first building, but it was a police station way back in 1975 ( +/- ) i'm sure it was when i still lived in England and i left there 35 years ago. i seem to recall a helicopter with it. i bought it from a toy shop on a hill in castle donnington, i was a regular there as a kid as my uncle lived just up the road. i had the trains with the blue rails too. edit; FOUND, it was the police heliport from 1972 560-2 Edited January 1, 2011 by locoworks Quote
Runamuck Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 My LEGO collection started in a rather unusual way, so the is no direct first major building. My mother used to babysit some kids in her younger days an bought a whole bunch of LEGO sets on sale to keep the occupied, later my brother and I "inherited" these sets. There were in fact a few buildings among the sets, the biggest one being the Police Headquarters 588. Other buildings included the Snack Bar 675, Auto Repair Shop 6363, Town House 6372 and Shell Service Station 6371. Quote
