rabrew Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Greetings, Today I opened a "new" 10199 that I received from shop.lego.com (US) a couple of days ago. I say "New" because it is from this year as opposed to last year. As an avid collector and AFOL I have always tried to fill out TLG surveys. One of my complaints has always been damaged instructions and sticker sheets. Well to my surprise I found in this 10199 that the instruction book had been separately bagged with a cardboard stiffener. I am trying to find out if this is a new direction TLG is going or is it just a test run? After reviewing several blogs I had not seen this topic so if I am asking something that has been answered my apologies and could you send me in the correct direction. rabrew Quote
Front Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) Some of the new Technic sets 8043 Motorized Excavator, also had the instructions packed this way. Edited November 29, 2010 by Front Quote
Superkalle Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 If this is indeed a new trend that TLG are wrapping them separtely, that is good news. And it seems like a good idea to start with the "AFOL" oriented sets, since we tend to care more about these things Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I haven't received any instructions packaged like this yet, Sounds like TLG are actually listening to us I hope I will receive some instructions like this soon. Quote
zyrex Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Got my Emerald Night (Ordered from S@H) with instructions and sticker sheet packed like this, very happy with this :) Quote
Cinderbike Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 The Toy Story 3 train I got from S@H had the instruction manuals crushed in the box from jumbling around during shipping, so I'm glad this is changing. Quote
exon_from_youtube Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Every large set in the last 6 months I purchased did not have that deal... I hate when the instructions come out rolled up on one corner and makes it hard to lay them flat... case in point, the City service station.... the main book was huge and well the book was bent right in half.... even after I took it into the bathroom and set it down close to the shower as I took one to get the book a bit damp and then placed it in the sun under four paper weights it still wanted to lift as I was finally assembling the set.... I too agree with this forum, I would like to see the instructions flatter and packed nicer as well.... Quote
jonwil Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 None of the sets I have bought recently (including the Harry Potter sets, Atlantis Portal, Grand Emporium or City Public Transport) have had the instruction manuals protected in any way. Quote
Geertos13 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Hellow Fellow Eurobrickers, I got the Re-Release of the Winter Toy Shop for Christmas this week, and I was pleasently suprised to see that the Instructions were packed in a seperate Plastic Bag with a cardboard so that the instructions don't get warped. I was informed in the Licensed Forum that this was also was the case in the Exclusive Diagon Alley set. Instructions and Stickers were packed seperatly. Is this a new LEGO idea ? And is it applied to all sets ? I also got a recent Prince of Persia set but it wasn't included in there... Unfortunatly I forgot to take a picture, But I luckely found a picture on the internet. That exact same sort of packaging came with my Toy Shop. And we can now, thanks to this picture, see that this set, ( I'm a complete novice in LEGO technic Knowledge, so I hope some of you will point out which set this is ) has also this form of instructions in a seperate bag. Does anyone know if this will be applied to all sets, or is it just for big sets ( I'm basing that Idea on the fact that all the sets I've seen that have it for now, are pretty big. I also noticed there seems to be only one size for the Cardboard, which means it can't be include in all boxes with different sizes... So, is there anybody out there that knows what all this is about ? I'm not complaining, because I'm glad my stickers will finally be in perfect condition. Greetings, Geertos13 PS : I didn't really know where to post this, and I hope this is the right place. If there is an already existing Topic in an other forum, MOD's feel free to move/delete it. RoryoCox Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I recently got my Shuttle Adventure and the instructions were packaged like that as well. I would believe that it is only for larger or exclusive sets and not for smaller sets. However, it is really good to see that lego have taken some of our suggestions to mind and have acted. Kudos to them Quote
AndyC Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I think Front mentioned somewhere that they don't exactly have a cost effective mechanism for doing this for all sets at the moment, so it's something you'll likely only see on large expensive models. Quote
Sisco Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 God, I hope so. If you read any of my reviews, you'll see that bent instructions are the bane of my existence, and I'll be happy to see TLG finally do something about it. Even if it only happens in the larger sets, it'd be a step in the right direction for The Lego Group. Quote
Inconspicuous Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Oooh, this sounds great! Even if it's not in every set, it's still going to make instructions are stickers better quality fresh out of the box. It's so great that Lego listens to us- just another reason why they're such an awesome company! Quote
Geertos13 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) I recently got my Shuttle Adventure and the instructions were packaged like that as well. Ah, that means that we've already got several sets with this form of packaging... As you said it might only be for big or exclusive sets. For now, all our examples are pointing in that direction. It's so great that Lego listens to us- just another reason why they're such an awesome company ! Agreed ! LEGO finally listened to all the complaints !! Edited December 31, 2010 by Geertos13 Quote
Geertos13 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) Oups ! I posted a similiar topic in this forum Yesterday... Silly me ! I can tell you however, that the Diagon Alley set, the Shuttle Adventure, and some big Technic Set ( unfortunatly I don't have the name ) Have this same sort of Packaging ! I received my New Winter Toy Shop Set with Instructions in a seperate bag too. I was told that the New Diagon Alley also included the Stickers in that same Package ... My Stickers will finally be in perfect condition ! These sets seem to be all "exclusives" and I noticed that the Carboard including it had only one size : I found a picture of it on the internet : Edited December 31, 2010 by Geertos13 Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 It would be really great for the AFOL collectors if TLG pushes with this new trend of packing the instructions. Damaged and folded instruction manuals were always unsightly views when opening a freshly-purchased Lego set, and I'm happy that TLG is finding ways to improve its products' packaging. Even if they will be just starting this test-run in the large and exclusive sets. I hope these will also find its way into other sized sets as well. I hope to have this new instructions packaging in a set in the near future. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 This is indeed a great development. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but TBB has an article that expands on it: 1. Instruction booklets come loose in the boxes. They sometimes get damaged during transit. If they were tightly packed in polybags, it could prevent such damages. Stickers also get wrinkled, they could be packed with instructions.A. Yes we know and we have started to package building instructions, labels and textiles in all sets with more than 1000 pieces in a poly bag. The current solution is a quick and dirty one. Version 2 will be ready with-in the first 3 month of 2011. Looks like this will soon expand to all sets. Quote
drevim Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 This has been one of my major peeves with the company since my return to Lego. This wasn't near as much of a problem in the Late 80s/90s, since they had the thicker boxes with the lift up flaps. Instructions always seemed to be laying flat on the bottom with the bricks on top, but never crammed in from a side packing. Hope it takes, but I can't see it going to the mass porduced sets, I would think the cost to do the bundling with cardboard would be a drawback for them. Quote
spectre4188 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I just opened a new 10193 ordered from LEGO around Christmas time, and was VERY HAPPY to see the below :) Thanks so much for listening, LEGO!! Quote
Masked Builder Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Yep. With 1000+ parts it would have its own baggy. Quote
Geertos13 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) Yep. With 1000+ parts it would have its own baggy. Hmm... I don't think so. The Winter Village Toy Shop has not 1000+ pieces. I think it's more for the exclusive sets, because for now, I've only seen big ( and expensive ) exclusive sets ! Edited January 9, 2011 by Geertos13 Quote
KimT Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Isn't it for 800+ parts set for now? TLG is considering what defines the need for cardboarded and wrapped instructions in a set. I know they're considering the bended sticker issues along with the bend instructions issue. Quote
jonwil Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I just bought a new 7498 police station and 6 different stickers had come off the sheet and were ruined (and yes I did contact customer support, hopefully they can send me a new sticker sheet) All the stickers for my other smaller police sets (prisoner transport, police truck) were fine. Henri Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Hello all, I bought a bunch of Lego's in my latest trip to the U.S. in November 2010 and almost all books were wrinkled. 10216: winter village bakery : a big mess in the bottom of the box. sticker sheet folded. 10214: Tower Bridge: all books folded double 8404 : public transport : stickers fold. I was so freaked out with it that I decided to call Lego Service. They sent all the books and stickers new to my home adress, and they arrived even before I got back home. In my phone call with Lego I asked the lady to make a comment that ALL lego boxes above a certain price (>60 USD/50Eur) or size (> letter/A4 size) should have instructions packed separately with cardboard back. I am SOOOOO pleased to see that it is happening now. I know it is not due to my comment, but I am thrilled to see Lego is learning. Just hope it will be like that in all upcoming larger/expensive boxes. One good advise to all of you: Whenever an instruction book is not in perfect-new shape, just call lego-service to replace it. If we all do that, it will soon improve! best regards, Carpe Lego (pick a brick) Henri Quote
