Baylego Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I spent quite a while on these, so I hope you like them! All decals are either re-colored decals from the Pirate index here on EB on the computer or hand drawn. Whitecoats (Republic of Balka) This nation was founded in 1453. It's territory covers most of the Balkan peninsula, Libia, and some scattered islands in the Caribbean. Thier government is a monarchial republic. This country is the leader in human rights, as it is the only nation to have outlawed slavery, which was stated in it's founding Constitution of Balka. This is King Socrates (his parents named him after the famous philosopher) and Queen Aphrodite. This is a standard whitecoat infantry in the background. Royal Armada (Spanish Empire) Spain broke away from the medieval Lion Empire in 1429, and was recognized as an independent state in 1431. Their territory comprises of Spain, Morroco, Algeria, most of South America, Latin America, and Cuba. The government is a constitutional monarchy. Christopher Columbus, the Spanish explorer, ensued the race for new territory by landing on the shores of Cuba and discovering the Americas in 1492. This is King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. In the background are a Conquistador and a soldier in the Royal Armada. Bluecoats (Crown Republic) This nation was founded in 1448, eager to have it's independence from the Lion Empire. The name comes from the "crownies" that ruled over this region hundreds of years earlier. Their territory covers, France, Belgium, Netherlands, a small part of Germany, French Guiana, and many islands in the Caribbean. The government is a monarchial republic like the whitecoats. This is King Louis and Queen Esmerelda. Bluecoat infantry is standing behind the king. Redcoats (British Empire) This empire was founded in 1451. Their territory covers Great Britain, Ireland, the east coast of North America, and many Caribbean islands. The government is a parliamentary monarchy. This is King William and Queen Elizabeth. The infantry is in the background. This information is a part of a story of this time period I am writing, and I hope to make a map sometime. I hope that you like it! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Those are amazing customs Baylego! Great job on those very intricate torso designs, even the additional details (King Louis' hair) are nicely-done. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I love the alternate history work, and your costuming is great. I have one minor nitpick about this, though: This nation was founded in 1453. This country is the leader in human rights, as it is the only nation to have outlawed slavery, which was stated in it's founding Constitution of Balka. This could almost be true, but not quite. There have been a number of countries where slavery was outlawed at least temporarily before the "Pirates" timeframe: Cyrus the Great freed all slaves within his mandate around 600 BCE, Stephen I of Hungary did the same around 1000 CE, Iceland abolished slavery in 1117, Sweden started outlawing slavery in 1335, the Republic of Ragusa in 1416, Japan started in 1587, and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1588. Some of these countries were guilty of backsliding later on (Sweden sticks out as a participant in the Transatlantic slave trade as late as 1813, and Japan kept a tradition of harsh servitude until the 1850s) but for a time at least, each one of them was technically a slavery-free zone. I feel almost trollish for mentioning this in the context of Lego Pirates, but I'm geeky like that, and it seems like you've put a lot of effort into your history. Quote

This could almost be true, but not quite. I am glad you like my history. That is quite interesting about slavery. I am not very good on my history from about 500BC to 1492, so this is nice of you to alert me to this. Quote
Sir E Fullner Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Redcoats (British Empire) I like your creation, though Queen Elizabeth did have a bit more hair. Quote
Darth Yogi Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 These look really nice. The decals on the first picture are fantastic. Also I really like the wig, but I think maybe some Sculpy would make a smooth transition. Great job Quote
