The director of The Empire Strikes Back, arguably the greatest Star Wars movie, has passed away today. Kershner took the series to a new high with a perfect mixture of emotion and art that hasn't been seen in any Star Wars film since. I look back and wonder how great the PT could have been had Kershner not turned down the offer to direct The Phantom Menace.

Thank you for one of the greatest films of all time! You will be missed!

Ingrid Pitt, Leslie Neilsen and now this! I just read a nice tribute here. IMO ESB is easily the best SW film, I haven't watched the rest half as much as I should because when I feel like watching Star Wars, I watch Empire. And that ending, gets me every-time. Sad news.

Requiescat in pace.

You made one of the biggest movies in history and we all have to thank you for your great work. I hope you are were you belong now. :cry_sad:

This truely is a sad day for OT SW fans.

At least a part of him can live on in his films.

Agreed. Although I consider myself a neutral in PT/OT/CW, ESB was still the best of the movies, IMO. Everythings about it was so incredible. RIP, Irvin.

You will forever be remembered for giving us the best SW movie of all. My condolences to the Kershner family. default_sadnew.gif

So you don't think CW is better than OT?

I never said CW is better. I maybe a CW fan, but I'm a general SW fan so I like all of 'em - OT/PT/CW (well, maybe not EU stuff). default_classic.gif

(Sorry for the off-topic).

This is some sad news. My condolences to the Kershner family.

And thank you, Mr. Kershner, for directing possibly the best movie in the Star Wars Saga. Your work shall never be forgotten, and neither shall you. May the Force be with you. :sadnew:

Rest in peace, Irvin Kershner. I respectfully disagree with comments about how it's a sad day for just OT fans- it's truly a sad day for Star Wars fans and fans of any of his other movies. His magnificent work helped shape blockbusters for years ahead. My condolences to his family.
