prateek Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Great pics! You might want to resize them to 800x600 and post a review topic! Quote
user Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Man I'm dissapointed with these mummies Their head printing is very plain. The bodies have stained and wrinkled bandages but the heads ave no wrinkles on the bandages or their skin! It looks more like a amateur decal to me. Quote
prozac Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I went to my TRU in hopes of finding these sets, but no dice... Quote

Most amateur decals I'm familiar with try to cram in too much detail. In my opinion, simpler prints are better because they fit in better with regular minifigs. Plus, if there were the same level of detail on the faces as there is on the torsos, then the gap between the front and back prints of the heads would stand out rather garishly. Not as though you'd notice with the headdress on, but in my opinion it's best that the head prints keep it simple. Quote

I think the mummies look great, especially with the headpieces and weapons. The prints on the heads aren't as detailed as the bodies, true, but at least they're varied. Quote

They are too detailed, with wrinkles and chin and cheek definition. I like these simple faces. They are what Lego is about. Quote

Ceroknight Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Here are some photos, picked up the 7306 Golden Staff Guardians set at TRU in Ft Wayne Indiana on Saturday... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=451939 Very Hi Res taken as 10MP Very lucky Love the new mummies and Egyptian weapons Much better than ninjago in my opinion defiantly getting this Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) One question is the gold staff and new swords normal quality? Or they are made of the same peeling off material like castle swords and tridents from Atlantis? Edited November 15, 2010 by Lordofdragonss Quote

Nikola Bathory Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Pharaoh's Quest pics for Peppermint_M The sphinx looks weird, but everything else is awesome! Great! Finally we can see not only boxes, but the sets themselves! I want the pyramid and 1-2 of the smaller ones. Only the Anubis statue is awful, I don't like it at all. But all the other sets are so cool! I can't wait for January to come! Only bad thing - stickers! Quote

But what do you expect of a company that is targeted at children? Kids don't really care or notice "amateur" decals. But I do see your point. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 You know what I noticed? Every brickbuild creature in this theme is a living statute! Even the Scarab- it have heroglyphs and he is made of bricks! I adore this detail! Quote
the Inventor Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 It looks like Jake Raines, is in almost every set except the motorcycle one. And the professor is only in the big pyramid set. I would've liked it if there was more differentiation in the adventures. But nevertheless I really like this theme especially the small sets. the Inventor Quote

Oky Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I kinda agree with CB. While there's nothing wrong with the new mummies, the Studios one was just a bit better as it looked weathered and wrinkled like thousand year old mummy should, and while the half-covered second face of the new ones is interesting, it's not as useful as the sleeping one of the Studios mummy. I also agree that it's too bad that the professor is only in the most expensive set. I think he should have been in the Scarab set instead of Jake. Hopefully there will be a cheaper way to get him in the future. The Sphinx is turning me off the more I look at it. The head looks great but the rest of it just looks weird. Can't wait to get Duel in the Air though! Quote

I would've liked it if there was more differentiation in the adventures. But nevertheless I really like this theme especially the small sets. the Inventor I agree; it seems like Professor Charles Lightning and Gail Storm (or, if you prefer, Dr Kilroy and Miss Pippin Read) were in almost as many sets as Johnny Thunder. It's a shame to see that the girl and Archibald Hale are only in one set each, and both of those are rather expensive ones. Quote

Between the new and old mummies though, I still prefer the new only because of the excellent Egyptian weapons and shields and headpieces. Quote
Rocketbilly Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 One question is the gold staff and new swords normal quality? Or they are made of the same peeling off material like castle swords and tridents from Atlantis? Well, by my logic, any Lego piece with the "criss cross" pattern on the area the figure grips (like the swords handle and the entire length of the staff) is going to be made out of that softer, more pliable plastic so I personally expect them to be a bit soft and "flaky" Though of course I'm not one of the lucky ones with the sets in my hands, so I can only guess. Will/Rocketbilly Not the case. My pharaoh from Collectible Minifigures Series 2 has a staff with a "criss-cross" pattern which doesn't flake at all. It's softer than, say, minifigure spears, but the same hardness as a cutlass from Pirates sets, whether in the new wave and in the 90s era. The ones in Ninja sets and Prince of Persia sets have that sort of handle, but from my experience don't flake at all (they also seem to be made from the same material as the Pirates cutlass). Atlantis tridents, on the other hand, don't have the criss-cross pattern, and one version of those (from sets in the first half of the year) flakes very, very easily. Tridents from sets released in the second half of the year are a slightly different mold and an entirely different type of plastic. While still a little more flexible than the regular ABS used for standard bricks, these tridents do not flake at all and are more on-par with collectible minifigure accessories like the Spartan's spear or the Witch's broom. I can't think of what swords you're thinking of that have a criss-cross handle... The chrome greatswords from Castle and the more angular swords from Knights' Kingdom II have ridges around the circumference, but they don't have any sort of "criss-cross" pattern. To be fair, though, I don't know what piece Lordofdragonss was talking about either, since the only sword I know to be made of a considerably softer plastic is the "battle-damaged" one used for skeletons and trolls in the Fantasy-Era Castle theme. And even that never gave me any trouble with flaking the way the Atlantis tridents in the first half of this year did. The fact that LEGO changed the Atlantis trident's material halfway through the year strikes me as evidence that they've learned their lesson with that material, and that future weapons (even if made of a lighter, more flexible plastic) will not be so soft that they sustain damage from normal use. You make a fair point. I'd not considered the collectible Pharaoh's staff at all, and it's also good news to know that it's not bendy. Also I'd completely forgotten that the Atlantis tridents were changed to make them stronger. that also gives me hope. The swords I was referring to were Khopesh swords debuting with the sets we're currently discussing. I believe that in some of the prototypes they had the criss cross pattern on the hilts, and I just assumed that feature has carried across with the final pieces - sorry for any confusion. VenVoi Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 As others have said, Duel in the Air is a must-buy for me, as well as the two small sets. I'm on the fence about the cobra set, but I don't think I'll get it. Quote

Even the Scarab- it have heroglyphs and he is made of bricks! I adore this detail! Hey, I didn't notice that. That's pretty cool. I did not expect the sphinx's underside thingy to be removable. I probably haven't taken a good look at it. The thing I don't like most about it is the legs and transforming ability, I'd say. It's too bad, because it includes a fairly nice vehicle. Yay, 500th post. Edit: I'm also a knight now, it seems. That's nice. Edited November 16, 2010 by Delta 38 Quote
