prateek Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Why so mad about glued magnets? They're supposed to be magnets, not minifigs Quote
Lego_Hero Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I hit my TRU late last night and found that the PQ had been picked through pretty hard. They had everything but the airplane set and that's the one I'm really wanting. I can't wait to get those wings. I doubt I'll get the Pyramid, but I NEED those Anubis heads! Quote
prozac Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 My TRU had all the PQ sets today! I got the Cobra Statue, Flying Mummies, Scarab Attack, and the Golden Staff sets(also got the Atlantis Seabed Strider)! Getting ready to tear into a few now! Quote
VenVoi Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 My TRU still had what 2011 sets they had in stock at the normal price, so I picked up Duel in the Air for $19.99 and the $9.99 set Quote
Delta 38 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't know if I buy that argument. The profit margin on the magnet sets must be huge, and it's not likely that folks (including myself) who might normally buy a magnet set to get a particular figure will now spring for a $100 set we're otherwise disinterested in. That will happen sometimes, but overall I doubt this will be much of a win for TLG. Obviously magnet sets are popular, but I think this is mostly because of budget cuts and concerns about profits. I don't know exactly how popular magnet sets are as they're not around my area, but I don't think they make much. Why so mad about glued magnets? They're supposed to be magnets, not minifigs I guess most people don't buy them for the magnets, really. It isn't too logical to glue the minifigs to the base, though. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Why so mad about glued magnets? They're supposed to be magnets, not minifigs Agreed! I've never bought any magnets, are the minifigs in those magnets really of inferior quality? Because that's what I've heard. Quote
Aanchir Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Agreed! I've never bought any magnets, are the minifigs in those magnets really of inferior quality? Because that's what I've heard. Yes. From what I've heard/seen, moreso than the collectible minifigs, even. But it could be a case like with the collectible minifigs where the quality started out cruddy and has improved over time-- I don't pay much attention to magnet packs myself, so I can't be sure. Of course, as with the collectible minifigs I continue to assert that purchasing magnet packs carries an inherent risk, since as with the collectible figs the parts can't be replaced by LEGO customer service. So even if it were just a few flukes that had sub-par quality it would be a risky purchase. Now with the minifigures glued perhaps people will take the differences (physical and economical) between magnet-pack minifigs and regular minifigs more seriously. Also, since this isn't totally clear from the stuff I've read-- how much of the minifigures are glued? Can their heads still turn, and their arms, and so forth, or are all of their parts glued? Some of the comments I've seen just make it seem like the minifigures are glued to the base, but it's probably more than that-- I'm just not sure how much. No concern of mine (I don't buy magnet packs, preferring regular sets for many reasons other than part quality), just a matter of curiosity. Quote
Etzel Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Agreed! I've never bought any magnets, are the minifigs in those magnets really of inferior quality? Because that's what I've heard. It's a matter of personal opinion. I just got one of the new HP magnet sets and those figs are just fine according to me. Excellent printing and matching colours. I think it's really sad that the upcoming magnet sets are glued, they were a great way to get rare minifigs for a cheap price. But TLG is a company that wants to make money so I'm not surprised that they try to make us buy the big sets instead of just a magnet set. Quote

Correct me if I'm mistaken, anyone, but it's my understanding that only the legs and torso are glued to the base; everything else on the minifig is removable. -Mesonak Quote
Darth Jar Jar Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I think the magnet sets are pretty popular when I was at the westfield lego shop soe guy bought 15 senate guard, anakin and ahsoka magnet packs Who needs fifteen ahsoka's. Quote
Zzz Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Who needs fifteen ahsoka's. Ebay does. Lot's of people don't realise the magnet's existence and pay stupid prices on ebay or BL. Also I buy magnets to get my hands on some rare minifigs. I guess I am not alone in saying I'd rather get a magnet set than the stupid Swamp Speeder to have a Barriss Offee minifig. So it is sad to hear that in the future they might glue all the figs in the magnet packs together... Quote
vexorian Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't even want to think of what the guy was planning to do with the asokas. Quote
whung Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Photos of key chains, magnets, and minifig packs are found in LEGO.com Quote
vexorian Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 What's the difference between minifig packs and impulse sets? Do minifig packs use cheaper plastic? Quote
Rick Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Photos of key chains, magnets, and minifig packs are found in LEGO.com Those tan headdresses with the snakes printed on them look neat and are exclusive so far to that minifig pack. Quote
Etzel Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 What's the difference between minifig packs and impulse sets? Do minifig packs use cheaper plastic? I guess this is a set similar to the Kingdoms battle packs (link 1, link 2). Some people have reported that the quality of those sets wasn't up to their standards. I got one myself recently which was just fine, but people have different attitudes to them. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Is this a minifig pack? It doesn't look like magnets or keychains, so is this like the police minifig collection? Quote

Oky Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) That minifig pack looks pretty neat. I just might have to get one of those if it has a good price. Just too bad there's only weapons for two mummies though. It's also nice to see there will be keychains of the pharaoh and anubis. Those tan headdresses with the snakes printed on them look neat and are exclusive so far to that minifig pack. Wrong, one of them is in the Cobra set too. Brickviller Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 That's great news about the minifig pack, now I can get a sarcophagus without getting the pyramid set Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I just got 3 staff guardian sets for 10$ each at my TRU and the scarab set for 5$!! I love these guys, I don't much see the point in buying a "battle pack" so to speak, the guardian set is essentially a battle pack Quote
Oky Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't much see the point in buying a "battle pack" so to speak, the guardian set is essentially a battle pack If the BP ends up being ten bucks, you're probably right. Even though the third fig is the mechanic (who you only need one of), the set includes twice the amount of weapons, plus all the bricks and that sweet motorcycle, making for a much better deal. Quote

prozac Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I assembled all my sets last night and I love them all. Flying mummy set - my fav so far. I personally could have done without the tower thing and used those pieces to make a slightly bigger plane. The mummies are excellent. Cursed CObra - An excellent set! The cobra is really cool. Set was very easy and quick to build. Love the female mini and the truck Scarab Attack - Surprise of the bunch. I like it much better than i thought I would. Scarab is way cool. Staff guardian - Nice set for $10. 2 mummies and a cool bike. Quote
