vexorian Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Have there ever been calendars for action themes? I think even a collectable minifigs cadvent calendar sounds more likely. Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Fugazi has got a point. Seeing how Lego seems to be desperately trying to turn NinjaGo into a cash-cow, it would not surprise me at all if they made an advent calendar for it too, leaving PQ in the sand (pun intended). After all, NinjaGo has a much higher variety of characters and sets to be put into a calendar. I mean, what would a PQ calendar have to offer? More mummies? More small vehicles and statues? With the figures so far I agree 100% it would be impractical to have a calendar, but if PQ goes along the same lines as Atlantis did, (and so far it's looking like it will) we will see a lot more characters, not to mention environments and more distinctive mummies. I doubt the Anubis warrior is the only god-headed minifigure we are going to see in this theme, so by next year when waves 2 and 2.5 have been released, there might be crocodile headed warriors, Osiris warriors, and a few more protagonists, and who knows, even an "villain" to fill up the calendar! Oky Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Have there ever been calendars for action themes? I think even a collectable minifigs cadvent calendar sounds more likely. Not really, unless you count New Pirates as an action theme (it sure was as short-lived as one), but then again, Lego hasn't been doing non-City calendars for long, and since there's not really any other theme to fill the spot, it will likely be one of these two. With the figures so far I agree 100% it would be impractical to have a calendar, but if PQ goes along the same lines as Atlantis did, (and so far it's looking like it will) we will see a lot more characters, not to mention environments and more distinctive mummies. Yeah, but that's a big "if" at the moment as we have no confirmation on the line continuing, so NinjaGo is the more likely candidate for an advent calendar at the moment, especially if that line continues as well. I'm not saying that I'm HOLDING MY BREATH...but, I may just cross my fingers... Have fun having your fingers crossed for a year. Quote
Tyrant Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 With the figures so far I agree 100% it would be impractical to have a calendar, but if PQ goes along the same lines as Atlantis did, (and so far it's looking like it will) we will see a lot more characters, not to mention environments and more distinctive mummies. I am also hoping this type of trend continues on into other gods as well. Sobek themed crocodile headed figures could be great. Also, seeing the Anubis Warriors in a cheaper set would be great. As for what we already have, I thought the flying ones were supposed to symbolize Horus with the hawk head so we have 2 right now. I just wonder what other sets we would see? We covered the iconic Egyptian stuff in this series. Pyramid, Sphinx (kind of), Obelisk (kind of). Some ruins of "typical" (aka, non pyramid) Egyptian buildings could work and maybe a boat or two. Although with flying mummies, a sphinx that can apparently animate, and the giant cobra (and scorpion and scarab) those might be signs that they are going to take things into a different, radical direction. Perhaps a giant crocodile? A hawk themed creature/vehicle/robot/whatever to challenge the plane? I do wonder if they consider what the various gods represent before they think about using them, or anything related to them, in the sets. For instance, will we ever see anything related to Set (god of evil)? If Set had something cool/iconic associated with him, would his place in the pantheon matter? Quote
Flare Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I picked up the $20 and $10 sets with the Toys R Us coupon today, along with a couple Atlantis sets, I'm really excited to building them and hopefully doing reviews on them as well As for the Advent Calendar, I'm also thinking that NinjaGo would unfortunately be a more likely choice Quote
Oky Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) Okay, sorry it took so long, but I finally managed to upload the pics: Front Back I bet they will show up on S@H the next day, rendering my efforts pointless. By the way, have you noticed that the website has been updated with a bunch of stuff? It now has an awesome commercial, bios for all the characters, and this neat downloadable poster! Looks like Helena is a Lara Croft type character. Makes sense, with that hair. Edited December 8, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 haha, this coin bank is wierd. Sorry, but I've never liked coin banks, Lego or not. I really hope that we'll see more than the first 6 sets, I mean a second wave later nwxt year... Quote
Aethersprite Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Guess I'm not very up-to-date with news here - what's the coin bank, and is it for mass retail? Mind doing a review, Oky? Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Don't forget to try and play the game....endless ammo but watch for those traps ! I wonder if Lego will do a promo cartoon to promote this new theme eh ? Keep on chasing mummies ! Quote
Ogre Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Thanks for the pics of the bank, Oky! Kind of an odd looking thing but, it's nice to see they're expanding the line. Speaking of: I noticed that on the magnet set, there's no name for 'Amset-Ra' (sp?). 'Jake Raines' is there, 'Anubis Guard' is there but, for A-R, it just says 'mummie'. Not even spelled properly. r4-g9 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 one of the codes for the game is cobra i don't know any others, but if anyone else know them please share them. Quote
Flare Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 A coin bank, very interesting... I'm afraid it won't beat a piggy bank though Quote

It's a device for kids to save up some money. And sorry, but yes, I do mind. I'm not gonna spend $20 on a cardboard box with some common bricks in it just to review it. That's because it's not really him; it's just an impostor with his head and nemes. There's no excuse for the spelling mistake though, except that the workers who manufacture these maybe don't know English spelling. This is not the first time there has been spelling errors on a magnet set. Lego really should start checking these before selling them. Edited December 8, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Aanchir Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 That's because it's not really him; it's just an impostor with his head and nemes. There's no excuse for the spelling mistake though, except that the Chinese workers who manufacture these don't know English spelling. This is not the first time there has been spelling errors on a magnet set. Lego really should start checking these before selling them. Are you even sure the packaging is designed in China? Chances are someone, whether Chinese, American, or Danish, just made an honest mistake. No need to assume "them dern foreigners" are to blame for everything. And before you state that the packaging is probably made in China because the set is produced in China, note that almost all sets are produced in non-English-speaking countries-- for instance, Denmark, Mexico, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. I know of course that there's plenty of rhetoric about anything Chinese being inferior, but in many cases that's just a xenophobic exaggeration. I can't think of a country in the world that doesn't have its share of low-quality products. Quote
Zeya Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I can't think of a country in the world that doesn't have its share of low-quality products. Legoland is a country that doesn't have low-quality products. Legoland is a country, right? Quote
Oky Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Okay, sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. It does say Made in China on the back, but I guess that relates more to the content, so there's not really any telling of where the packaging is made. Please, I don't want to start another flame war about this. Back on Topic: I'd definitely love to see a little mini-movie produced to promote this theme like they did for Atlantis! Quote

Have you seen the commercial on the website? Obviously not up to par with a full mini-movie, but still pretty great animation. The most memorable bit, of course, is when Amset-Ra's head spins around right before the LEGO logo appears at the end. Very, very humorous. Quote
prateek Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 That bank is really weird. At least it's an nice way to get that useless Cobra fan Quote

Yes, that was funny, but I really love the dogfight sequence at the beginning! I'd watch a PQ movie just to see an extended version of that! That bank is really weird. Algernon Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 So I'm deciding between buying some of these Pharoah's Quest sets or getting a few Space Police III sets that I missed before they get discontinued. PQ looks good but after the reviews some people seem kinda lukewarm to it. Any recommendations? Quote

PQ will be around for the next year, so you have time to worry about them later. SPIII is great, I don't regret any of the sets I picked up. After seeing the PQ sets up close at my last LUG meeting I'm excited to pick them up! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 So, it appears that the only way to unlock new levels on the website's game is to enter codes--one can't move up by completing previous levels. Interesting. Also, the website lists the female character as Helena Skvalling, but all the official product descriptions still call her Helena Tova. Quote
