The Crazy One Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Wow, the designer looks so good. When is it officially realeased, because I want to get going on that now! Quote
Brickthing Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 The Recon Team-specific chestplate will be the only exclusive element available. Thanks for the confirmation. I don't expect the cost of a Design-by-Me Hero to provide a good deal on the pieces, but I hope the cost will be worth the experience and the exclusive chestplate. If shipping costs to NZ aren't outlandish as usual though. Quote
dviddy Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I mostly ignored the dudes talking in the videos, just because all the test models around them were stunning and desirable. There were what, like four or five different dragons in there??? <3 dragons. Quote
Bundalings Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I know. <3 This gives me hope for future big sets. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Those Hero Recon Team screenshots are cool, but I kind of wish it used the regular LDD interface. Oh, well. Maybe we'll still get lucky and see the parts on LDD LEGO Universe mode (since they're rendered and all). I always love seeing the design process for LEGO products. Loading the videos now... EDIT: I've watched all of them. I'm really impressed. The new building system was clearly very well thought-out, and it's neat to see the various "creature" concepts. Hopefully creature sets will sell well, so that we'll see plenty of them. I saw a few "bone" pieces on the chart that haven't appeared in any sets so far... perhaps rejected concepts, perhaps just unused concepts. I wonder how many more might appear in future sets, and how useful they might be. Edited February 5, 2011 by Aanchir Quote

Well, they could do a piece that has a ball joint in the middle and three ball joints going out, like that piece that XPlode uses for attacthing his shoulder armor. Aedai Rivin Quote

Mesonak Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Still appear to be somewhat prototype, but meh. Rocka's gold! -Mesonak Edited February 5, 2011 by Mesonak Quote
Brickthing Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Normal Rocka is gold. If they can do it now, why wasn't Mata Nui gold? Looks like the green armour pieces are nametags after-all, printed on trans-green... Witch Doctor doesn't look as good as in the previous images we've seen, but I'm attributing that to bad lighting and posing. I love the look of the dark-red/black blended pieces on him. Quote
The Crazy One Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Wow, cracking stuff Lego, Rocka is amazing, and the Witch Doctor. Sadly it now means I almost can't be bothered to complete this wave but I think I will. Quote
Jouster Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Rocka 3.0..is gold..?! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3! And the guy in the middle seems to be a combiner model. Stringer + Nex...Interesting. It's really cool. And now..Witch Doctor...I can sum up everything in one sentence: I am dissapoint. . I had hoped Witch Doctor would be a great set, but it seems LEGO ruined the arms...The legs are good though. But the arms...and the staff...Especially that tiny staff...I mean, what the hell?! Quote
Aanchir Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Normal Rocka is gold. If they can do it now, why wasn't Mata Nui gold? Rocka has far fewer pieces than Mata Nui has. Besides, some of us liked the big guy better in Keetorange, for various reasons. Witch Doctor is much more filled-out than Fire Lord, but he seems to rely heavily on Technic integration. Not sure I'm really fond of that... we'll have to see when better pics emerge. I'm particularly impressed with the figure between them, who seems to be a "combi" model of Stringer and Nex. Those claws demonstrate more complexity than I expected to see in Hero Factory canister sets, even if he is made from two of them. I can't wait for more pics! Quote
Bfahome Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I like the fact that they're keeping each hero's color unique to their character. Which might mean we see some heroes in nonstandard colors, assuming they don't keep reusing the same nine heroes over and over. Quote

Im pretty sure if Hero factory goes on they will eventually have a hero the same colour as another hero. I was looking at the New recon team and i then noticed for the colour selection there was a pinkish colour! Quote

Which might mean we see some heroes in nonstandard colors, assuming they don't keep reusing the same nine heroes over and over. This wave introduced two new colours while the Savage Planet wave will introduce one, so I think they'll slowly add one or two characters each wave (hopefully sticking to one hero per colour). There are plenty of colours left, including Keetorange, Gunmetal, Metru colours and possibly Sand colours. Although they may only introduce a few more characters/colours, until they have enough to cycle the Heroes through in each wave without it becoming repetitive. Im pretty sure if Hero factory goes on they will eventually have a hero the same colour as another hero. I was looking at the New recon team and i then noticed for the colour selection there was a pinkish colour! I find it unlikely that there will ever be a pink Hero. Quote

Ceroknight Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Thank you for the video, Rocka looks fantastic, and what is that in the middle? Quote
Brickthing Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I was hoping purple or teal or brown or something, but yeah it's unlikely. Not to say that I don't wish for them as well, but Teal is a discontinued colour while Purple hasn't appeared prominently in Bionicle sets since 2001. I think Brown would be a possibility in a Western/Desert themed wave, along with Tan, Greys, and PoP Nougat. Thank you for the video, Rocka looks fantastic, and what is that in the middle? It looks like the combo model of Stringer and Nex. Quote

Aethersprite Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) ROCKA 3.0 IS GOLD? Wow. I'm surprised, and very, very pleased. That means having a purple Hero isn't too far-fetched after all. Also, I'm glad that the 'nametags' are trans-green. While I still don't like them, they are definitely more subtle and would stand out less than if they were solid green. Both Rockas are now definite buys for me. Woot! EDIT: I didn't quite catch it in the prelims and the video - what's Rocka's secondary colour? As in, what's the colour of his core/head? Aethersprite Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 White? Sweet. Also, take a look at the trans-green pieces on Rocka and the Nex/Stringer combiner - there's a picture of the respective animals the Heroes represent in their respective colour. Cool. Quote
Brickthing Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (Click for full size) I'm guessing that these were the only Hero Factory sets at this particular Toyfair, but hopefully there will be more at other upcoming Toyfairs. I really like the jungle artwork on the table - the texture of the tree looks slightly futuristic and technological, keeping with the Hero Factory theme despite being set in a primitive environment. I'm convinced that I need to wait until there are better pictures of Witch Doctor, because the way he's built seems far from accurate. They even disconnected his arm to make sure he was posed badly! His shoulder, hip and ankle articulation is very interesting - it allows reinforced articulation in two axis, but not twisting, meaning his limbs will always point forwards. I'm very interested to see how that will affect playability/poseability. Ball&Y joint heaven though. I suspect it also uses a new variation of this TECHNIC piece with two axle holes instead in between the two ball/socket groups. Quote
ToaAtraks Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 The heroes are Power rangers! :D Just kidding... Witch Doctor seems interesting. Quote
Jetrax99 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 every 3.0 set is a definite buy for me Quote
