Omicron Squad Leader Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I would never expect a vehicle- I was just saying. Also, I hear rumors of the 3.0 sets being in some retail stores around europe. I also asked the guy on the LEGO Store when can I expect the new Hero Factory sets while I was picking up some pieces. He said I can expect them at least before July. I didn't ask him about the cancel thing, however. I'm going to the US in a week, so I just hope they are released in time. Quote
Bfahome Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 As by now every 20th kid in Germany has the set, I just picked up the phone and dialed some random numbers, until a kid with the instructions in his hands, was kind enough to pass on the information. Or maybe not :-) "Mommy there's a weird guy on the phone and he's asking about my parts." Man, I hope future sets have as many of those hollow ball joints, and more of those 3-length ball/socket beam thing, though maybe in black so they have a wider range of use. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 How the heck did you know he had 39 red ball things? And Don't forget 2 badass skull masks By the way: Off topic, but I see you are also Korean! Quote
Aethersprite Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 "Mommy there's a weird guy on the phone and he's asking about my parts." I see what you did there. Nice one, I laughed quite a bit! Anyway, I'm not going to worry much about HF being cancelled for now, I'm going to enjoy Savage Planet when it comes. A pity my country gets them only in late July/early August, but I'll be content with reading/watching reviews online for now. Quote
TheRedGuy Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) Off topic, but I see you are also Korean! Nope, I was just looking if any new countries have the new sets. And I thought it was Japan Edited June 10, 2011 by TheRedGuy Quote
Jagersmann Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Just a design question. Does anybody knows what are the "bubbles" in Raw Jaw's head? I mean. they are real bubbles or something else? Quote
Aanchir Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Just a design question. Does anybody knows what are the "bubbles" in Raw Jaw's head? I mean. they are real bubbles or something else? I imagine just some sort of weird animal-like camoflage pattern, similar to those on Scorpio, Waspix, and Fangz. I think this pattern's supposed to resemble scales, however odd that is on what's ostensibly a gorilla-like creature. Quote

Brickthing Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 To be honest, I don't really see Raw-Jaw as a gorilla. In fact, that's why I really like him - he's a unique beast, not representing any specific animal. My first impression (aided by "Mamut") was that Raw-Jaw was a mammoth, although he has gorilla qualities as well. There's still a lot of inspiration, but it's good to see sets that are supposed to be alien creatures not blatantly being based of a single Earth animal. It always slightly annoyed me that the Barraki and most Rahi were based of real animals. The 3.0 Heroes have an entire galaxy of fauna to choose from, but they take inspiration from Earth animals only. But he's mostly a gorilla. And besides, the only villains based on animals are Waspix and Scorpio. Fangz and Raw-Jaw are based off animals as well, only it isn't stated in their names. Fangz seems to be a wolf/jackal with "fang" tusks. They're obviously a part of unique patterns all of the bad guys have. Like the fire villains. Yes, but other villain patterns make sense as an animal texture/emblem, while Raw-Jaw has bubbles. I agree with Aanchir about them being scales, although I don't think Gorilla fur would be an appropriate texture either for the robotic creature. Quote
Jagersmann Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 I'm really into this because I wanna make some draws for the second wave of 2011. I can see a spine in the "camouflage plates" in sets like Raw Jaw and Waspix, that makes me think about a skull or bone structure for their heads. Maybe is just a design for that plates that is unique for each beast. As you can see, the HF plates are just simple armors, but some of them are specially detailed, like Heroes ID or Fire Villains symbols. Quote
vexorian Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 I love Raw Jaw. The design is more original than "lol make a gorilla". And I actually like it is smaller than a 2.0 Hero. Unlike the heroes, he is bulky. Quote
ZORK64 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) I'm confused and surprised. I mean, I live in Germany, and I actually expected the new HF sets to show up at Müller (the store which also got the past few waves of Hero Factory and Bionicle a bit earlier), but they only seem to sell the 2.0 sets (for 5€ each set). Now I'm checking here again and I have to read that the 3.0 sets are already available?! Perhaps only in the LEGO store. Or not in the Müller near my work (I should check the Müller in my hometown sometimes). I'm really, really baffled. EDIT: Say, if I actually can get my hands on some 3.0 sets next week, should I make a review for Eurobricks of them? Edited June 13, 2011 by ZORK64 Quote
dviddy Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I bet Eurobricks will have it's own reviews on July 1st. Just a hunch. Quote
The Crazy One Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I cant wait to get my hands on Bulk and Rocka. It's just sooooo awesome. Shame its about 18 days or something till these guys will appear. Quote
dviddy Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 So sitting here playing with Raw-Jaw... Yeah, I just don't get it. He's weirdly put together, he has lots of holes you can see right through, and his legs are just awkward and bend the wrong ways. I much prefer Waspix, who is quite awesome. I like him a lot. Quote
Front Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 But the attracting stuff on Raw-Jaw is his arms, each with the two new shells in red. Add to that the head. He may be short, but if you spread out his arms, he span the width of two heroes. At least. And yes I've built him, and looked at him for god knows how long Quote
dviddy Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Oh, I like the parts. I just don't much enjoy the finished product. I heart Waspix, though. Love the head sculpts for both, though I wish they fit on the hero heads. Quote

dviddy Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 That's all you get until the BZP reviews are published, starting most likely on the 1st, which is when we are allowed to post them. Quote

Do you plan on reviewing Raw-Jaw for BZPower? I've seen plenty of pics of him, and so far most of them look pretty good (but not all-- the Gizmodo preliminary pic shows off some of the flaws you mentioned). It's easy to tell he has design flaws, but he's still one of my favorite bad guy sets and I'd like to see a review before I've made a firm decision about whether I'm actually buying him. Meanwhile, as far as "weirdly put together" is concerned, that's one of the reasons I prefer Raw-Jaw over Waspix. Waspix isn't weirdly put together-- his build is incredibly simple, and the only really innovative design principle (the extra arms) owes itself to a new (albeit useful) part specialized for the task rather than using existing parts in creative ways. Raw-Jaw may not be the most refined-looking design, but like Fire Lord he pushes the boundaries of the new building system by aiming for an unconventional design using parts as economically as possible. dviddy Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Do you plan on reviewing Raw-Jaw for BZPower? Yes, I will be doing at least five of the new wave set reviews for BZP. Raw-Jaw and Waspix are amongst them. Quote
Aethersprite Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Yes, I will be doing at least five of the new wave set reviews for BZP. Raw-Jaw and Waspix are amongst them. Looking forward to them! Well, in my opinion, the holes in Raw-Jaw's body aren't as glaringly obvious as that of Fangz, his huge arms and the body armour on the back cover them up better than they do on Fangz's. And I agree with Aanchir that one of the reasons I prefer Raw-Jaw and Fangz over Waspix is that they have more unconventional builds in them compared to 'regular' canister sets. EDIT: After taking a closer look at Stringer, I finally figured out what his helmet reminded me of: Ironhide from the Transformers movies. Coupled with his bulky body, both of them are really similar. Nice resemblence there. Edited June 14, 2011 by Lockon Stratos Quote

So does that mean I can't write a review? Because I bought Bulk 3.0 just today and I would really like to write a review about the set (his canister is still unopened, so I could even make pics of the undamaged canister). Quote

I'm sure it does not mean that. I'd say it's released so it's fair game. BZP and Eurobricks have the timeframe because the sets are donated by the company so they can be staff-reviewed for publicity and so on, and LEGO's given them rules accordingly. Lego can't really regulate unaffiliated individuals who bought the sets where they're out. Edited June 15, 2011 by SpiderSpaceman Quote
