World Cup 2022 In Qatar

Today, it was announced that Russia will get the 2018 World Cup, and Qatar will get the 2022 Cup. This is very interesting to me, I'm very curious to see how it will turn out with the Qatar summer heat and the size of the country.

Whatever your opinion is, I have to say, the stadiums they have planned are amazing looking to say the least.

Interesting find. Qatar's going to get a lot more money now. (Even though it already is stinking rich.) But why announce so early? 2022? That's more than 12 years from now.

Man they love their water taxis!

Their stadiums planned to look spectacular, but I didn't expect anything less from a country in that area. They have really interesting shapes and are definitely on a grand scale. Qatar is definitely a solid place for FIFA to choose because they have the money to get this going and I assume it is relatively safe. But doesnt their culture ban alcohol? I wonder what would happen with that because Heineken is a big backer of the world cup.

I don't mind Qatar as the host for 2022, but there was obvious bribery for votes out of Russia for the 2018 World Cup. I think it should've been in England. Just look at it too. Russia is going to hold the 2014 Olympics, and then 4 years later they are going to hold the World Cup.

I think its a good thing that things like the Olympics and world cup makes their way around the world to countries that usually don't host large events, it can sometime help boost their economy, but sometimes they are left with a multimillion dollar stadium that no one in the country can afford to operate or use, so I hope Its the countries decision to hold the event.

I've think it's pretty clear that England didn't get the 2018 WC because of the bribery-scandal that English newspapers discovered shortly before the voting. FIFA is, just like IOC, controlled by those with most money.

I was looking forward to England hosting the World Cup but then I found out Russia got it. Obviously not the best place for it, no offense to the people, but is it not like 100's Km between cities.

I also think Qatar is a strange decision, again no offense to the people, but it is 50c in the summer and has some very tough laws. I am sure the 2018 and 2022 World Cup's will be fine but for me, the wrong decision may have been made.

When I read the story off of the AP wire, it said that Qatar is planning on air-conditioning all of the stadiums so that the excessive heat doesn't affect the players or the fans. They have that kind of money, but we'll see if they follow through on the promise.

It will be interesting how that culture handles the alcohol and the attire of the female fans that are bound to show up at the event.

I wonder how much Russia's hosting of the Olympics factored into their World Cup bid. Surely some of the Olympic venues can be re-used or re-fitted for the World Cup.

Whilst I can't stand football myself, it defo seems to me that FIFA can most definately be bought for the right price! Qatar????? 99% of the Earths population has never heard of it let alone could point it out on a map! The fact the we (England) didnt get the 2018 event is great news,means my council tax etc... wont be going up to help pay for it

Oh I didnt even think about the women, silly old me! I think they would be used to western women now wouldnt they? Qatar does seem like a place founded on money and tourism so they must not be that strict for western women to be clothed in a provocative way.

The ACed stadiums will cost a fortune. I dont know why they want to do it anyway. It will be so expensive to run and probably will only help the fans. I would have thought the players would just need to get used to it.

Considering how often Israel has qualified in the past (once, in 1970) and what league they have to qualify out of (UEFA), I don't see it happening. But I'm sure that if they do qualify, the people of Qatar would welcome them. At least I'd hope that they would.

I might actually go considering I'll be ancient by the time it is 2022...

You may not have heard but the Rumors are True. Abrohimovich admitted Recently that he Bribed Sepp Blatter and that all the talk During the Conference about how Good England was a Bribe by Him to Make England think they were getting it.

I'm most concerned with the infrastructure of Qatar during the World Cup. I'm not sure if they'll have the facilities necessary to sustain the influx of people that are going to visit during the month long event. We're talking about a country that has less than two million people in it and is smaller than the state of Connecticut. Can Qatar handle bringing in 32 soccer teams and all their fans? I'm not sure.

As for the alcohol clothing laws, I'd imagine that they'll lift those within the confines of each soccer stadium during every game. Or maybe even within say 500 meters of the stadium during game time. Those shouldn't be a problem.
