another little update, rat lines are done now, and capstan is working.104_0725.jpg

and my favourite Like BrickTango said looks the best this way.

so that's the outside pretty much done just missing a few ropes here and there but not far away. starting work on gun deck as soon as parts arrive.

For my first attempt at a prefab hull ship I'm pretty happy with it, and my next one will be a lot easier now I have some experience.

And you have a good reason to be happy with your ship. It looks great. As a 'first attempt' you did a very good job.

Small changes that you could make are letting the spanker sail be tied up on the upper yard instead of the lower one, and make the bow of the sloop in the same direction as the bow of the big ship.

It's an honour for me to be invited for the maiden voyage of this beautiful (bluecoat!) ship.

Even though that strange wannabe-croissant is looking a little bit weird :pirate_sad2::pir_laugh2: Good luck on the gundeck!

Cheers guys,

re-rigged the "spanker" to the top yard,

as for the sloop facing the wrong way.... it doesn't really fit the other way around, I will try re-positioning the whole set up so that it faces the right way.

I'm glad you've accepted Blocksworth's invitation It'll be a hoot,

(despite the fact my pastries are sub-standard, And the Admiral will be in safe hands aboard the "Hell Hound".

Good looking ship Taz!

I love that you are tiling the deck. The shape looks good and you are making good progress on the sails.

I would make a few changes to the ship to make it even more authentic...

1) I would move the shrouds/ratline/channels back a few studs. What I mean is that the rigging that connects the masts platforms to the main deck of the ship general start "behind" or more towards the stern of the ship as opposed to right in the middle as you have done here.

2) I would continue the white that is featured on the bow of the ship along the middle to tie the bow and stern of the ship together a little more, or at least try it out to see how it looks.

3) I might also be tempted to move the catheads forward a little bit if possible as well.

This is a great looking first ship though!

Cheers "Z" for the comments, I've moved the catheads right up to the front of the deck ( 3 studs ), I can't do much with the shrouds as they are all tied in and the ship steps out 1/2 a stud right after where they join so cant even get a stud movment there, but will remember that for my next one.

will have a play with the white lines from the headrails to the cabin too.

updates soon.

and have begun writing the story/comic to introduce they ship.

Yes, order and neatness are two very important things aboard a ship. Once you mix all the ropes, disaster will strike :pir-classic:

The gundeck looks excellent now and so does the rigging (like I said before).

You could also remove the lower yard of the spritsail (on the bowsprit), but it's already a perfectly seaworthy vessel. Well done

TazManiac, I love seeing your updates, you are ago generous with your progress pictures.

Do you plan on making a new thread for the final product? I think it might be a good idea, or to update the first post, just so that your finished product is on the first post.
