JeagerEX Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) Check this Space Villain minifig from Collectible minifigures. Anyways he was a leader of the Blacktron? Because he has a Blacktron II logo on his suit. Edited December 8, 2010 by I Scream Clone Added picture Quote
Oky Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 It's possible, I suppose, but we have no confirmation of that. He could just be an elite or something. We'll have to wait until the bios for the Series 3 figs appear on Lego.com. Does this really need its own thread? Quote
Aanchir Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 We'll have to wait until the bios for the Series 3 figs appear on Lego.com. Speak of the devil... Nothing in his bio says he's the leader, only a member. The bio doesn't even mention Blacktron by name, but there's plenty of stuff that sci-fi fans will enjoy very greatly. I encourage anyone reading this to follow the link and read the bio for yourself. Quote

Wow I can't believe they mentioned spyrius, insectoids, and m-tron yet they didn't mention anything about the blacktron symbol on his chest! Quote
Fugazi Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Peculiar isn't it! Maybe they didn't want to get anyone's hopes up! (Nobody really expects a return of M-Tron and the others mentioned ) Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 But, but, but, but I want a return of the Insectoids! I Really like all the nods to the old Space themes that we've been enjoying lately, and There's no doubt in my mind that the "Space Villain" would make an excellent commando. ~Insectoid Aristocrat (who will obliterate all non-believers of return) Quote

Aanchir Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I personally think it's just coincidence and reuse of a LEGO owned logo. We will see though. "Coincidence" makes it sound like LEGO just chose a random logo that fit on his chest nicely. I think after frequent mentions of older themes (including the uber-nostalgic torso from the Rench minifigure in Space Police III), it's clear that LEGO anticipates AFOLs recognizing older themes, and is using the most well-established "Bad Guy" Space theme's logo for their Space Villain with that intention. I do not, however, think it means anything about a Blacktron theme returning. People keep trying to use the collectible minifigures to predict the "return" of certain themes or possible future themes, and I think that is ignoring much of the point of the collectible minifigures. Part of their charm is being minifigures who wouldn't fit in any current theme. People make these same sort of assumptions about any AFOL-targeted easter eggs they see, and it gets very annoying when LEGO can't give a shoutout to us fans without people jumping on it and declaring it a prophecy of things to come. And of course, LEGO finally seems willing to share a laugh with us after one particularly notorious false trail. Naturally the Castle theme in that incarnation has ended, and the elf in the collectible figs does not even resemble the one in the illustration, so hopefully people will know better than to assume it "confirms" the previous rumor. Perhaps an elf theme will happen someday, but we can't assume we're any closer today than we were in the grand old year of 2008. Quote
Oky Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Speak of the devil... Ha! Now that's a coincidence! The fact that he is wearing a Blacktron symbol, however, is not. They're clearly implying that this is the organization they speak of, even though they're not naming it for some reason. So, I guess his bio wasn't very helpful after all, but I think they would have mentioned it if he was supposed to be the leader of Blacktron, so I'd say the answer to JeagerEX's question is No. However, there's nothing that says he couldn't be the Blacktron leader in your personal Lego universe. I Scream Clone Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Whilst it is always interesting to speculate on future themes and possible returns of old classics, Aanchir puts it nicely. Nostalgia is an important selling tool when it comes to adults. I mean I would love to see a return of Blacktron. Trans Yellow, black and trans red. A Blacktron monorail would just be the ultimate Space return set in my eyes. Hey maybe a classic reissue of Message Intercept Base, might drive the price of the trans yellow dome pieces below $17 each on BL too Quote
vexorian Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Quite clearly, blacktron went so to the background that mainstream information sources like LEGO.com do not even mention them. There are just these guys working under the radar. The guy from the collectable minifigs and Wrench are examples. In regards to that, he does not look like the Blacktron leader, he looks more like a possible Dragon. Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Nope, I don't think he's the leader either. If they were going to have a Blacktron Leader, he would probably be in the original scheme; no neon B (even though it does look cool). You would never even know he was their leader because that's how the original Blacktron worked. well, until those dang Space Police started locking them all up. Quote

Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 He certainly could fit the role of leader, but I think it's more of a shout-out to older collectors who remember the Balcktron days. (he does seem more like Blacktron meets space police III) Lego does seem to have a blast with these mini-figures playing to the likes of adults and kids simultaneously. Just reading the descriptions online makes me giggle (The zombie is 'harmless" and the vampire supposedly drinks "fruit smoothies" but a the same time you could use them in MOC's as blood-thirsty monsters, so to a kid a "space villain" is just a neat figure, and to AFOL's it's anything you can think of making it. Could Blacktron come back? I doubt it, at least it won't as Blacktron, but I'm sure there will be a new space theme very soon (after all, Lego has not had a year without Space themes, (and yes Star Wars is counted) since the late 80's I rather like the blast from the past a lot of the collectibles bring Quote
