AgentA Posted February 12, 2005 Author Posted February 12, 2005 I have to agree with all of you. It's too Bionicle (even though I like Bionicle but redoing hte sets just a slight bit...) and cheap of LEGO. LEGO has always made great sets without having to add two things and re make them. Now they have done that too much. First Bionicle now KK. 8-| AA Quote
DoubleT Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 From what I can see in the katilog, there are new faces on some of the KK minifigs.. Quote
MattZitron Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 From what I can see in the katilog, there are new faces on some of the KK minifigs.. YaY!! AND I like the big Bionicle swords by the bridge! Quote
erikutt Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 the minifig sets look nice but the bionicle knigths look like they all had a really bad day Erik Quote
Jipay Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 They are supposed to be super version of the precedent ones. the bionicle receipe, you know... Quote
The Middleman Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 What, did they get dunked in protodermis? ;) Quote
MattZitron Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 What, did they get dunked in protodermis? ;) Nope, they got bitten by radioactive knights. Quote
Bricks0937 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I personally like the old sets better. they were more castle-like. the new ones have knights in pretty colored armor. *wub* Quote
Vader Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Well at Knight has to look his best if hes going to battle :-D ;) Quote
MattZitron Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Well at Knight has to look his best if hes going to battle :-D ;) That was painfully cheesey. Quote
The Middleman Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I don't mind the creatively colored knights as long as we get a good amount of non-rainbow figs (Mathias, Vladek's knights). Quote
Bricks0937 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 yeah, it seems like Lego got smart with putting out a bunch of Vladek sets for the second round of KK2. they just need to see that they are going a lil too far into a Belville-ish color sceme with there oh-so Manly knights. :-D Quote
MattZitron Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 yeah, it seems like Lego got smart with putting out a bunch of Vladek sets for the second round of KK2. they just need to see that they are going a lil too far into a Belville-ish color sceme with there oh-so Manly knights. :-D I like that there's more Vladek sets. That was my main beef with the first wave of Knights. I like my heroes to be in the minority, so they overcome adversity. Quote
The Middleman Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Knights Kingdom arnt that good anyway! They're really good specialized castle piece parts packs. Other than that, they aren't great. I'm looking forward to Vladek's stuff because it'll be great for modern buildings as well. Lots of polished black stuff. Quote
jonfett Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 .. and chrome armour! Vladeks castle looks like one of the only decent sets that has come from KK2. Jon. Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Vladeks knights make good Sith knights! but I hate the multicolored armor the knights wear, shows how serious lego is about appealing to the younger market thats not that good for us :'( Quote
SuvieD Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I come in defense of KK2 and any other castle LEGO if need be. KK2 year 1 sold very well. Year two will sell even better I think. LEGO knew what they were doing with this series. :) As far as all you (star wars loving) castle haters out there ;) I am here to say, and I quote myself, "shame on you!" :oo LEGO has never been about realism or historical accuracy. They only mimic real concepts and transform them into wonderful, nearly indestructible childrens toys. No LEGO castle has ever been realistic. No bathrooms, beds, fireplaces, hallways, cookerys, servants, or any other such thing you would find in a real castle is to be found. They never even had stairs or ladders in most of them. |-D That is the beauty of it all. Imagination, play, explode and rebuild what else do you need? I know some people on this forum are from England and France too. The thought of the red, green and black armored knights should make you happy. Almost every Arthurian legend has those characters in it. The blue and purple knights might be a little out there but certainly not the others. Honestly, I was hoping they would have made more colors for year two. Imagine a classic yellow, white, blue knight or something newer and bold like dark red, dark blue, teal, orange or pink. *sick* Well no, not pink. Each one from a different land with a different heraldic symbol. Each one could make up a knight of Camelot. Add merlin in and away you go. :oD Well one can dream of a dozen different colored knights sitting round the giants ring with flagens and turkey legs in hand. *wub* Long live Camelot, long live king Arthur, long live those funny little LEGO figures that have romantic and silly looking armor on, long live LEGO castle! :P Quote
The Middleman Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 SuvieD, nobody here hates castle. In fact, we all love castle, and that's why we like to see it done WELL. KK2 was not done well. The piece/price value was horrendous, the construction was absolutely appalling, and half the pieces that WERE there were extremely large and unusable for anything else. The knights were unrealistic (none of the Arthurian legends had rainbow-flavored knights) and basically just bad, as they couldn't be anything other than THOSE KNIGHTS. The old castle sets were perfect. I suggest you buy one Royal Knight's Castle and one Castle of Morcia, compare the two, and then report back. Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 SuvieD I'll agree with Bloody Jay. We LIKE castles, and we WANT castles (take those words from a HUGE SW FAN ;) ). I was not a great fan of the first series of KK, especially for the colors of the knights themselves: its as horrible as those crappy DINOs ;) . I think that year 2 is getting real good!!!!, especially for parts (great new color of armors and weapons, great black pieces...). If only TLC could make a Knight of the Round Table theme *wub* , oh well its never gonna happen, but I do look forward to these new sets ;) Quote
SuvieD Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Well, I have numerous LEGOLAND castle sets and they are rather boring. :/ The only really interestings sets were the forestmen and wolfpack. :oD The rest were . . . well, just okay. I have a royal knights castle. It came with lots of figures and accessories. In my opinion that is the only thing lacking in the KK2 sets, squires, pages and generic foot soldiers belonging to each of the knights. If they had include those wow! :oD I agree that while the year one KK2 ended up being 0.12 a piece, it is still reasonable. Dragon Masters* was almost 0.15 a piece and you ended up with less minifigs if you bought 1 of every set in each theme. With inflation and increased market costs, you would think a theme sold in 2005 (per piece) would be much more than one made in 1993. In 2000 the original KK was released at over 0.16 cents per piece. *wacko* As far as king Arthur goes the knights in KK2 are less colorful than those in legend. In the tale of Gawain and the green knight, the knight not only has green armor and a helmet but his skin is greenish and so is his beard. *sick* We are talking green! Mordred wore armor that was entirely black much like what Vladek wears. :^D I know there is another knight that wear all red armor. Though I do not remember his name. For me the bottom line is that while every** castle series has it's short comings KK2 really has some great personality. The sets can be lack luster in areas but I never keep sets built anyway. The color of the armor is great in my opinion. I really like having my elite guards all dressed in red armor. No one says how silly the orange rebel pilots look, or how the royal guards look unrealistic in red. It is fantasy. :X: Besides if all your knights wear gray or dark gray with a different color plume stuck in the top wouldn't that be boring? I have some pictures of a battle scene I recently did for CC. Check it out. Battle You can see some of the uses I have for my green knights. *twisted* Dan *comparisson (I chose DM because some of the earlier themes intermingled too much to determine what belonged where) **with the possible exception of the entire forestman theme Quote
The Middleman Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Castle of Morcia, I think, was almost 0.15 a piece as well. And if that's comparable to MEGABLOKS, well, that says something. As far as KK, I was never a big fan of that either, but at least the pieces were better - much more useful. As far as the knights, if they're GOING to do Arthurian sets, they should just DO them. As far as I can tell, the raid of the Citadel of Orlan for the MYSTICAL 2X2 TRANS-ORANGE DISC :oo isn't part of any legend. I agree - Arthurian sets would be cool. That's not what these are. The reason nobody says how silly the Star Wars figures look is twofold: 1) they don't look silly. 2) they're movie-accurate. I'm not saying every knight should be identical - I'm all for army diversity - but they shouldn't be fruity either. Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 the MYSTICAL 2X2 TRANS-ORANGE DISC :oo Oh my gosh! *goes and buys 1,000 2 x 2 trans-orange disks on bricklink* now if I could only find some knights to sell them to! :-D Quote
SuvieD Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Well Bloody Jay, this sounds like a stalemate. If we want this settled then I think we should have a contest. Traditionally, rock-paper-scissors would be in order but this is hard to do in a forum. So I challange you to a build off! :oo :bum bum bum: Put your brick where your mouth is! Ha ;) We will need a referee type official to lay down some fair rules. Then we can build and let the Eurobricks community decide which looks silly and which doesn't. I think we should limit the size and building time. You can build in either Star wars or pre-KK2 and I will build in KK2. Do you accept my challange? :o Is there an official man (or woman) enough to handle the rules? :o Will this post get me excessively flamed and booted for Eurobricks? |-D Who rocks the house, KK2 rocks the house!!!! :^D -Dan Quote
