Mr. Elijah Timms Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) So last night, with an amazing coupon deal at Borders and the wise advice of Prateek, I caved in and finally picked up the new 8097 Slave 1. And although I surely won't have time to build the spacecraft for weeks, I did open up the bags to dig out all of the myriad pieces of the coveted new Boba Fett figure. And yes, he does not disappoint. Which led me to think, with all this talk of the Collectible minifig favorites, and so many of the other fantastic figures we've had of late, as well as from the past-- In your opinion, what's the best minifigure ever produced? Hard for me to pinpoint-- the elf is fantastic, as is the Spartan-- the Cloud City Boba is still a favorite, as is the original Lando. But I also love the new Robin Hood CM, and I've always thought the Black Falcon archers were darn near perfect. On the other hand, the original Vader will always be a favorite, and I'm also very fond of the old Redcoat Admiral from the Imperial Outpost. And yet the cool Viking with the chainmail hood (that I never acquired ) is epic as well. What do you guys think? Edited December 16, 2010 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) There are a lot of figures I like, and it seems like every other modern figure is upping the ante in some way, but I think, from my own experience, I have to go with Captain Red Beard/Brickbeard [or whatever his real name may be]. I just think that he had enough innovations in one figure [peg leg AND hook hand?!] to really make me amazed as a kid. I would have killed to get one, and I'm not entirely sure I ever actually got one. Alternately, I also loved the derelict captain because A] he was as interesting as the above, B] he had more story built in to him [How did he get to this lowly state? Will he ever return to glory?] and c] I owned one. Of modern figures, Squid Warrior reigns supreme. Most impressive minifigure currently available! Edited December 16, 2010 by IAmWillGibson Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Of modern figures, Squid Warrior reigns supreme. Most impressive minifigure currently available! Speaking of modern figures, I can't believe I forgot to mention the Anubis warrior. I doubt I'll ever own one unless it shows up in a smaller set one day, but dang, that's one sweet figure. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Even being a Star Wars fan, I would have to say the original Forestman as an art form was perfect; exactly how you would have imagined him from books and other (non-LEGO) artwork and literature. Quote
CMP Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Alas, the question that has eluded AFOLs for decades. It is impossible to say, everyone has their own personal preference. I'd really have to say Dastan. Good dual-sided head, great hair in a great color, flesh arms, printed legs, sword sheaths... Quote
Joebot Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 That's an easy one. As Frank Miller once wrote: "I'm the god-dammed Batman." Quote
mikey Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Far to many to choose from. Each one is best when it suits your purpose, but if I had to select one: Quote
Enpaz Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) That's a good topic! For me, I really can't decide on only one because there have been so many timelessly awesome ones. As Brickdoctor already threw in, the Forestmen are fantastic. Also, I really love the classic ninjas! The redcoat admiral is pretty much at the top of my "best minifigs" list. Additionally, the classic town pilot of this set is fabulous. So much about the older seasons. Speaking of the rather new ones, there are a few genius ones aswell: in Star Wars the Stormtrooper, Darth Vader of course (great fig!), the old Episode II clones (even though I don't own any, yet will certainly do sometime, they seem to be really nice) and the expensive Jango Fett. The new Boba Fett (along with the new Death Watch mandos, as it seems) is really, really, really great too. Oh, and do not forget the yellow-striped Phase II clone (Starcorps)! Maybe not just as classy as Darth Vader and comrades, but definitely a glorious fig. The best minifigs outside from Star Wars would have to be Indiana Jones in full gear and... ´*drumroll* this guy... no, just kidding, I mean the Spartan of course. I'd almost say the Spartan is the best fig ever. I don't, though, because there are all those others that can only be described with Bang! too. Cheers! Let's let the discussion rage. Admiral Ron Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 This is a difficult question. If I had to choose a favorite minifig, I would probably choose the Han Solo used in the Endor Bunker. He is a great character, and how they portrayed him in LEGO was spot-on. Quote
prateek Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I've got to say, the original IJ fig is one of the best. Another good one is Cloud City Boba. Quote
Jargo Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Such a tough question. I actually don't think I can answer it. I don't particularly like a whole minifig but probable one or two parts of it such as torso and headgear. Or accessory and head etc. Currently I love the Anubis guard but also love the collectible minifig series four skateboarder and hazmat suit guy. but they're brand new. Possibly the original pirate captain and Johnny thunder minifigures have had the most impact for me. when I first saw them in Lego product catalogues all those years ago they leapt off the page and my heart raced with excitement. exactly the same feeling I get from certain minifigs now. Rumble Strike Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 My vote would go to the Classic Lego Spaceman (in red or white). An instantly recognizable toy icon. Quote
Space Odysseyer Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 For me, it's Indiana Jones minifigure. Also, I think the Blacktron 1 Spaceman is still great and charismatic. Quote
Djole Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 As others said, it's a pretty tough one. As for myself, I was using system of elimination and it left me legendary merchant guy and good old Cap'n Redbeard versus fearsome forestman and notorious King Kahuka. There's a battle between beauty of design, rarity and nostalgia most of all, who wins? - probably no one will ever, I'll have to kill the spirit of this topic and go with these four! :-) Greetings! LegoDad42 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 For me it will always be Indiana Jones. The hat, whip and overall look was spot on by the LEGO designers on that one while keeping within their system perfectly. And the chrome Vader is a beautiful figure with that 'chrome-like' finish has a wonderful shine and the lightsaber reflects a nice red to one side of his face. Great display figure. Quote
Broken Bricks Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Out of the classic minifigs, Captain Red Beard, as others have mentioned, was my favorite minifig as a kid and still stands as one of the best ever today. Out of the more modern minifigs, it's a tough choice since LEGO's printing abilities have become so much more varied and complex. But I am gonna go with the Golden Knight! It has awesome printing and it's a great concept as well. I could totally see it being my favorite fig if I was a kid today. Quote
Oky Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I'd say the arm and leg printed Boba Fett. Can't beat that kind of detail IMO. Quote
jonwil Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 For classic figs, my favorite has to be the Ice Planet 2002 female. Only female fig in any Space theme to date AFAIK. For more modern figs, its hard to say. Probably one of the Collecable Minifigs, maybe the Snowboarder or the Punk Rocker or the hazmat guy. Quote
Darth Yogi Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 This is a very tough one. Probably the original Darth Vader. He is a figure I have about 4 of, and he has that original Lego look thats not too detailed, but gets the idea through. Also the source of my zombies and Vader zombie avatar. Or the coolest jedi ever Kit Fisto. Honorable mentions are- The original brown ewok, Kashyyyk clone, Jango, and original Yoda. Quote
Rocketbilly Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 So many people have chosen Star Wars figures I was beginning to think that this topic was for Star Wars figures only! of course, Star Wars figures are great but I'm going to choose something a little different. The Aliens from Space Police III are all wonderful, in my opinion. Squidman and Wrench both being highlights for me, though Frenzy is fantastic, too. I would also describe the original Blacktron minifigures as classics. Snazzy dressers! Also, one final figure that's completely different - Johnny Thunder! the original Johnny, that is. Will/Rocketbilly Quote
David Thomsen Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 This is tricky, and I think it needs to be broken down into licensed, non-licensed and 'classic' minifigs. Licensed for me would have to be Indiana Jones. I'm not a Star Wars fan, sorry... but I always loved Indy. Non-licensed, I have to go with Pirate Chick. And for the 'Classic' minifig, I have to go with Generic Town Figure. Not because of any transcendent design, but because when I was growing up, this was Lego. Just a guy with a striped shirt, maybe a house or a car or a bicycle. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) This is tricky, and I think it needs to be broken down into licensed, non-licensed and 'classic' minifigs. *snip* Not to revive an old topic or anything, but there was a similar topic that I started last year when I was just a noob. --> Top 5 Minifigs Of All-Time (broken down to the five major themes: Town/City, Pirates, Castle, Space, Licensed/Other Themes). It was a short-lived topic, and just died a natural death. Edited December 17, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote
Dreamweb Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Captain Red Beard is a classic, no doubt one of the most recognisable minifigs ever made. Like IAmWillGibson wrote, it was revolutionary in so many ways - not only the pegleg and the hook, but also the eyepatch (Pirates were the first theme not to have standard smiley faces), Jolly Roger hat... It's impossible for me to choose the best minifig, there's just sooo many to choose from. However, being a Pirate fan, I must also mention the wench: She had the first ever female face, and a great torso which is still among my favourites. And finally, Governor Broadside: I can't express how badly I wanted to have him as a kid! Unlike the pirate captain, which was in most Pirate sets, and even in minifig packs, this dude was only in two big sets, which I couldn't afford at the time. And almost everything about him was unique and one of a kind - torso, face, hat, plume - you couldn't get them anywhere else! I remember staring at his picture for hours. Then I finally got one with the Caribbean Clipper I was given for Christmas by my parents. So I can't choose the best minifig, but if you ask me about my favourite one, I will definitely say it is and always has been Governor Broadside. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 For me it will be Hitomi. The greatest and most beautiful face in Lego history. And this amazing gold Exosuit! Quote
