Mr. Elijah Timms Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It just seems plausible that there will be a Lego Sherlock Holmes theme. That's IMPLAUSIBLE! No offense, my friend, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an entire Lego Sherlock Holmes. But don't take my word for it-- just go to the nearest playground and ask some kids who 'Sherlock Holmes' is... Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 They probably will use a generic name like "Sleuth" rather than the specific name "Sherlock Holmes", but not for legal reasons. I'm pretty certain Sherlock Holmes is out-of-copyright. Sherlock Holmes is public domain in the UK, but not in the US. Or the other way around. I forget which, but it's not completely PD. But yeah, as neat as buildings and sets from that era would be in LEGO, I really don't see it happening officially. Either way, I'm shamelessly addicted to these things, so I'm'a get 'em all regardless. Quote
Itaria No Shintaku Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 How? There was a Sherlock Holmes movie a couple of years ago, so I don't think there will be another one any time soon. Licenses usually correspond to movies, so I don't think it's plausible at all. Actually the movie ends in a cliffhanger and they're working on a sequel... Don't be too sure. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I would think they'd go with a 'Sleuth' theme as well. The name wouldn't really matter; most people would recognize the character. Of course, if they want to base the theme on the 1959 Hound of the Baskervilles movie, they've already made two of the starring actors as minifigs... Quote
MinifigFreak2010 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I saw that the collectable page on lego.wiki was updated. There's rumors of the series figures ending after series 5 :D I hope so. These things were a disaster from the start. There's to many meanies hogging large amounts of figures to sell of on eBay or brinklink or another site and are often price gougers, the figures are barely medicore and made of chinese plastic, it's really hard to locate them in stores unless you're lucky(no luck here. UGH), and lego took away the id system(NOT FAIR) Oh, and i'd like to note that i DON'T have an issue w/ collectors collecting more then one of a figure IF it's for their collection(either for parts, mix and match, or for a purpose like a baseball team) or a gift for someone else or even a FEW extra for eBay or even them selling their doubles from an order on BL or eBay, but i DO have a problem w/ people buying them by the box full. I'd be willing to bet that it was a major source of problem when my mother went to check there during the holidays. The toys r us had some but w/ a sale, the figs were outta there in no time. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 the figures are barely medicore and made of chinese plastic If you don't like the minifigs, why do you keep complaining that you can't get them? and lego took away the id system(NOT FAIR) *sigh* We've been through this already. They were always meant to be packaged blind; consider yourself fortunate that you were able to easily ID them at all, for not one but two series. You were never supposed to even have an ID system to help you in the first place. It was a privilege, not a right. Quote
MinifigFreak2010 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I never found ANY series 1, 2, OR 3 in stores. The only reason I have some series 2 and 3 is I got lucky on eBay. Actually, make that beyond lucky. It was nearly impossible to find a Baseball player and snowboarder for series 3 and except for the a guy on eBay having a couple surfer dudes and good prices, i'd still be hunting to this day. And I think blind picking is mean. Even if i COULD find them, i would stop looking for ones I want b/c I can't id by feel. I tried(for fun since I knew what was in the batch of bags I got from ebay for series 2) to ID the series 2 figures I got from the net. I couldn't tell one set from the either. my fingers aren't sensitive enough for that sort of stuff. Yea I know I can trade and sell extra's if I could find them at all, but that's NOT an option. I only buy on eBay, not sell. I don't use BrickLink or Craigslist. And I don't even think anyone around here collects them. There's a year round weekend fleamarket out of town, but we almost never go(maybe a few times a year tops) there and I doubt i'd get lucky in finding any. the goodwills never have lego and I never find lego at the local helping hands(kind of a goodwill type area) Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 You aren't supposed to be able to ID them at all. Consider yourself lucky that TLG doesn't stick them in metal boxes shielded from x-rays with counterweights inside (ridiculous example is just that - an example) or the like to make them impossible to ID by any means. If you want to know what you're getting when you can't but decide not to shop where the majority of the stock is (Bricklink), then that's your fault. That's like shopping for books at a supermarket. Actually, this is exactly the same discussion we had last time. Quote
def Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I'd be willing to bet that it was a major source of problem when my mother went to check there during the holidays. Your mom buys your Lego for you?! You're not really a minifig freak, are you... Quote
manuelexar Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Baseball player is hard to find? I've got like 4 or 5, the elf is really hard! I'll put a couple of them on bricklink when I will able to use it! Quote
Dunjohn Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Baseball player is hard to find? I've got like 4 or 5, the elf is really hard! I'll put a couple of them on bricklink when I will able to use it! Maybe it's a regional thing. Whenever I see a box, at least one of the first five packs I check has that nicely distinctive bat grip inside it. Baseball's a non-sport in this country, nobody cares about that guy. Quote
MinifigFreak2010 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Your mom buys your Lego for you?! You're not really a minifig freak, are you... I named mysef "Minifigfreak" b/c i love minifigures. Also, mom doesn't buy all of it. The majority is my own money or from ebay credit/money I earned from working around the house. Anyway, when she went to look, it was b/c it was on my christmas wishlist. She is currently keeping an eye out for some lego racers(8300's series. there's 2 i'm after to make a combo) that i'm after but no luck so far. yea I have all four of the 8100's they have and 3 she got, but here's how it breaks down: 1 was a late holiday suprise, one i found at toys r us(last yellow top in the store. a guy stocking the shelves checked a handheld computer thingy), and the other 2 my uncle got lucky on finding BUT i checked target and toys r us myself for them first and nada. If I would of thought about it while at toys r us or target, i should of picked up a couple racers to make a combo but the day I went, it was a long day so it didn't really cross my mind until after we got home. /)_- Quote
soundwave Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 did anyone notice that the girl with the ape looks like jane goodall? Quote
Ogre Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) That 'Sherlock Holmes' figure could just as easily be Van Helsing hunting dracula. It could also fit very well with the explorer and pilot. Also wouldn't Lego use a name like 'Slueth' rather than Sherlock Holmes? Unless they've paid for the right to use a particular literary character name. I mean the vampire was called 'Vampire' not Dracula. Also also the 'Zookeeper' looks more like a female companion to the Explorer than a zookeeper to me. I'm half expecting a Tarzan inspired 'King of the jungle' minifig in series 6. I thought "Jane Goodall" (sp?) when I saw that fig. did anyone notice that the girl with the ape looks like jane goodall? Heh. I should have read ahead. LOL! Edited February 12, 2011 by Ogre Quote
blueandwhite Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Awesome. Credited in every series. Nice work, Mr. Timms! Now if I can just have my Japanese Magical Girl or Statue of Liberty in S6 I'll be just fine. Who knows? I'd bet that a Japanese school girl is more likely though. I just hope that this line continues after Series 5. It really is an excellent concept and all of the lines have had a few real gems. I can only imagine what future series' might look like. Quote
Geki Brick Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I'm really disappointed they didn't give "Sleuth" a cape. A lot more minifigs strike me as purchasable this series despite the fact that the creativity has been zapped from this series. I just don't sense it anymore. Quote
Dunjohn Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I suppose I can understand that sentiment. These guys are generally filling roles now, but looking back at Series 1 - Crash Test Dummy? Where did that come from?? The Cheerleader was another one that struck me as very left-field, and a lot of the others had sparkle. The Godzilla is quite creative but he's the only S5er, in my opinion. Like you say, though, there are plenty of other good reasons to get these, and I still say this series is my favourite after S1. But I definitely get your meaning. Quote

Lance Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Another pop singer I see... It's exactly the same as the one in series 2 with a boom-box thrown in. Some of them are just remakes. Edited February 13, 2011 by Lance Quote

No, you can't, you HOPE a set that appeals to many people to END. This is MEAN, man. I have 2x of every collectable fig, and amongst them I have 10+ Elves, various Spartans and so on. They are really good. I don't see any issue with Chinese plastic, I read about it too many times to spend any more words on it. And id system? Just feel the bags. Any mid-lego fan can spot the pieces inside a box with ZERO problems. (The Elves' shield and bow, for instance, are EASY to find). To me, it makes no difference if they have a code or not. And I do not have superpowers. But taking back on topic, I must repeat myself: it is MEAN to hope that some particular theme is going to end. Further more if it doesn't take off space to another theme. If you don't like the current castle theme (which I didn't last year... but I LOVE this year), you maybe have some reasons to hope that it's going to end, since they will likely replace it with another castle theme (FANTASY ERA II, PLEASEEEEEEEEEE!) which maybe suits your needs better. But minifigures ain't taking space to any theme. Sorry, but haters' posts are really annoying to me. Quote

So much is wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin. If you don't like them - Don't buy them. Simple, really. There have been many posts about the blind packaging so do a search and do some reading. To me, it sounds like you are younger than the proposed age limit for the site. Again, maybe do some more reading of the guidelines. Cheers. Quote
Dunjohn Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Oh, the monkey's printed? Very nice. The aerobics girl looks a little more distinct from her popstar cousin now too, though she's still awfully similar. Thanks for that! Quote
Wout Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Now I really want more than one monkey oh yea, the woman with him is also quite nice. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Looks like the dwarf has a printed torso! Wish the aerobics instructor had different color hair than the pop singer. Does Godzilla have a tail?! Edited February 13, 2011 by UsernameMDM Quote
