Shaping up to be another excellent series-- I honestly can't decide on my favorite of the bunch! LOVE the eskimo, love the Royal Guard-- and certainly the Dwarf seems to be the army builder of the series.

Packaging bumps anyone? haha

I have 2x of every collectable fig, and amongst them I have 10+ Elves, various Spartans and so on. They are really good. I don't see any issue with Chinese plastic, I read about it too many times to spend any more words on it.

Yeah, I don't get it... I'm the same way. Two of each and then a few more... wasn't particularly interested in Spartans, but I've got 11 elves now (and now that I have them, I will probably MOC together some more, although I'll still keep an eye out).

Further, people seem to be forgetting something... series 1 and 2 were, especially in the U.S., in extremely short supply.

Series 3 has been out for almost two months (more, since TRU and even our local LEGO Store started selling them early), and still seem somewhat abundant - you can still order them from S@H.

If I was disappointed in the CMFs at first, it was simply because of such limited supply. I'd never even seen an S1 in ANY brick and mortar store (including the LEGO Store). S2 was in the LEGO store for a few weeks, but I didn't see them anywhere else... now I see them in Target, TRU, and the LEGO Store (and simply haven't check WalMart lately, although did not see them there last month).

It's an entirely different feeling with S3, as I'm sure it will be with all of them from now on.

I'm really digging S5; I don't understand why people don't like S3 all that much, but I do understand the enthusiasm for S5 (and share it). Eagerly waiting for S4 now...

I've got to say, now that we see all of them, my favorite is still Cleopatra, although I'll only want multiples of the Gladiator. I love the lumberjack, but see more nefarious uses for the ax; also being a big fan of mafia pop culture (the Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, etc., not the real one) I dig the guy with the violin case... would have been appropriate to have that guy today, in fact.

The gladiator has a nice new weapon. I like the surge in new weapons over the last 2 years, it gives quite a wide variety of options when it comes to MOC'ing.

I look at Collectible minifigs as a source of unique MOC parts and this series does not disappoint one bit!

Dark Dwarf army here we come!

So I think I've decided-- that Godzilla head/tailpiece combination will simply must be the SINGLE EASIEST PIECE TO IDENTIFY USING THE 'FEEL THE BAG' TECHNIQUE. If we get good enough, we might even be able to see it just by looking at the bag, but either way I don't think anyone will have much trouble identifying that figure.

Some other thoughts:

  1. The dwarf and clown in this series are collectively the first time we'll see the short legs piece in the minifig collection. I was beginning to think that maybe this would help in picking out dwarves, but knowing my luck I'll come home with an army of vertically challenged clown pie-throwers. Not nearly enough to make the elves tremble-- I think the key will be feeling out the dwarven helmet, specifically the wings.
  2. I like the new sword that the gladiator sports, but I kinda was hoping for something more unique given the figure. Perhaps a trident or something like that. Otherwise a great figure, and certainly one worthy of Klaus-Dieter's counterpart theory.
  3. Personally it's hard for me to pick a fig I like more than the Eskimo. Kinda wish he had more of an ethnic face, and I'd probably have preferred some snow shoes or a harpoon or something rather than another fishing rod, but at the same time it's certainly appropriate.
  4. In terms of MOCing, the Royal Guard might offer the best possibilities. Great new gun, the bearskin hat offers so many possibilities, and the torso would probably work very well for a potential RCMB figure. Very cool, and yes, of course we will all need at least 2.
  5. For that matter, there's some really great torsos in there. The snowboarder, the lumberjack, and even the graduate all offer torsos that could be blended nicely into everyone's city layout. Gotta love that blue bubble coat on the snowboarder!

Some random thoughts... I'm sure more will follow as we see more. Enjoy!

I haven't thought of this yet, but it's true, some of the figures should be quite easy to feel. The Buckingham guard has a large, round hat and the gladiator's headgear is also quite big and bulky, which should make it easy to get it. And I must say, I'm happy about the gladius in the set, there were already tridents in Atlantis, so I think the gladius is even more unique than a trident, even if it's a new mold. Just my thoughts. :classic:

I saw that the collectable page on lego.wiki was updated. There's rumors of the series figures ending after series 5 :D

I hope so. These things were a disaster from the start. There's to many meanies hogging large amounts of figures to sell of on eBay or brinklink or another site and are often price gougers, the figures are barely medicore and made of chinese plastic, it's really hard to locate them in stores unless you're lucky(no luck here. UGH), and lego took away the id system(NOT FAIR)

Oh, and i'd like to note that i DON'T have an issue w/ collectors collecting more then one of a figure IF it's for their collection(either for parts, mix and match, or for a purpose like a baseball team) or a gift for someone else or even a FEW extra for eBay or even them selling their doubles from an order on BL or eBay, but i DO have a problem w/ people buying them by the box full.

I'd be willing to bet that it was a major source of problem when my mother went to check there during the holidays. The toys r us had some but w/ a sale, the figs were outta there in no time. :cry_sad::cry_sad::cry_sad:

I disagree completely. Collectable Minifigures is one of my all-time favourite themes, and I'd be heart-broken if they stopped at series 5. And you say they were a disaster because some people bought whole boxes, but doesn't that mean they were a huge success? I agree it's quite irritating when people hog all the figures, but some people just love them a lot.

Series 5 does look very good, my favourites being Cleopatra, the cavegirl, the Eskimo and the clown. All the other figures are great too, but I would like it if the zookeeper had her hair in black or blonde and the dancer/fitness instructor's hair was any new colour. I can't wait to get some of these, and I hope that they continue into 2012 and far beyond!

I know, right? Who's making these anyway? TLG sold out nearly immediately (in the U.S., anyways) for both series 1 and 2. Hardly a disaster for them.

As a consumer, I love these guys... and I haven't bought a case yet, yet have managed to get at least two of them all through trading and bricklink.

And now they're still selling like hotcakes, it just seems there's enough supply to meet demand... and at a 50% premium over 1 and 2 in the U.S., too.

Yup, TLG seems to have gotten it right. On any given day at my local Brand Store that's not a day they receive a shipment, I can always find some S3s; never sold out, but the bin is never more than half full, and there's always a couple kids hanging around trying to figure out what's what.

Nope. Incorrect sir, the gnome from series four is the first with the short legs. :classic:

It make me all warm and fuzzy inside to see the chimp has a printed face!

And all bad things I have said before about the Zookeeper are now much better because of the chimp

Somehow I still don't like the fact they re-use pieces, but I never told I hate it

So hereby I just need to accept this and look forward for the creative use to make some nice, cool, great and awesome collectable minifigures.

I like it. Makes it easier to get multiples of the piece without getting multiples of a minifig in the case that you don't want another one of the minifig. And when they reissue it in a new color, that's even better. Between the Karate Master, Football/Soccer Player, and Sumo Wrestler, we have gold, silver, and bronze trophies.

Sorry for not being clear enough. I was talking about the exact same piece. I love it when they re-color pieces and especialy those trophies, very useful...!

Aha! Well played, Brickenhead Town Dweller. That's the problem with gnomes, they're at their most dangerous when you forget they're there...

Could be worse, could be Smurfs.....

Actually that gnome hat in white and some blue torso's and heads... NO! I'm not talking myself into creating a village of Smurfs. *slaps self in face*

His sword it totally appropriate for the style of gladiator that he is. That helmet, with that sword and shield is a very distinct style. Hopefully his most common foe (the gladiator with net and trident) will be in series six.

Wow this series is looking great. I heard that it was rumored this to be the last series. I hope they release at least one more series after this. I have some great ideas (I hope we get a shower guy with a toothbrush and toothpaste bottle. Also a student with a backpack would be nice. He should also have a pencil.). I wonder if this is true. I have to say im going to get afew extras of some figs like the small clown (I want the pies heh heh) and the dinosaur (King kong VS Godzilla) and some others. Not sure though if I like series 4 more.

Rumors are misleading, the sales figures aren't. These sell so well that for the LEGO Group to stop them at series 5 would be like them saying; "you know what we've made enough money,we don't need any more"

Heh heh I accually like it when LEGO makes lots of money, that means they can make more stuff for fans and cooler sets and more new molds. I hope LEGO makes a pause after series 5 and re-realeses series 1-2-3-4-5 one at a time for fans to collect the ones they missed. Its extremely unlikely but its possible.

I'm hoping for at least EIGHT different series of figs.

I fit two series per 16x32 baseplate and can fit four of those baseplates on a shelf (or two 32x32 but, those are a bit too clumsy for this usage, IMO).

I'm pretty sure there are more than enough ideas out there to support that many, or more.

Also, I'm on the side of "don't mind repeats" as long as they're the opposite gender (surfers, etc.), or enough of a variant to not be an outright 'duplicate' (such as the skateboarder). I REALLY like to see 'opponents', such as other gladiators, boxers, hockey teams, soccer/football teams, etc. I'm hoping TLG follows THAT particular line of thinking.

Oh...and...*ahem*...LEGO group? If you're listening/reading...we still need a 'gill man' figure for our 'movie monsters'. Please and thank you. =)

I love the gangster and the lumber jack, and I'll have to get several of the university graduate for me and my friends when we graduate at the end of the year. Other than that it's just the dinosaur suit guy to go with gorilla suit guy, can't see myself getting any of the others. Series 4 is my favourite so far :classic:

If LEGO will make a gangster, series 6 should have an army guy.

That's the tough challenge; they can make minifigures of violent armed men, but only if it's really old history or if they are fiction based.

Every war in the 20th century (which is I assume what you mean by army guy) has left quite a few people shaken up, and still is a tender topic, and so LEGO won't be mking any World War minifigures, or any figs from more-recent conflicts. That is the policy I'm afraid. :sceptic:
