Apparently I always like even-numbered series more than odd-numbered ones. I'll get no more than 4-5 of these, and no multiples.

I'm a bit more interested in this series - more for the parts.

Looking at the short clown, i'm thinking there is the possiblity of something akin to a British business man or a Wild West character in S6 or S7 as that hat in black or brown is a bowler hat.

British Banker would great. With an umbrella too

I'm actually looking forward to Series 5 because my wallet desperately needs a rest after Series 4. There really isn't anything in Series 5 which I would want to amass in large numbers. After dumping a small fortune on Cheerleaders, Spartans, Forestmen, Elves and Musketeers I'm really looking to stop this addiction. If series 6 actually has any castle related (not fantasy) figures, I'm probably doomed. Collecting these guys is just too much fun  .

Same here, my wallet is almost depleted with spartans and elves, Series 4 hasnt arrived yet, perhaps for July they shall bring them, meanwhile trying to save as much as i can because on July too the Kingdoms Line releases it sets...

Argh, tell me about it. I have a bad enough time as it is just trying to get all the other regular sets I want, and now I feel compelled to go after all these as well - and I want scads of all the "army builder / crowd filler" figures, and there's a slew of them - Cavemen! Zombies! Cheerleaders! Spartans! Sailors! Werewolves! Grad students! Elves! Musketeers! Forestmen! Robots! Spacemen! Hazmat suit guys! And on, and on, and on...

I've been looking at the boxer fig, and it kind of looks like the gloves are attached by themselves to the arm without any hand in the middle.

That would be a great new trend! So far the only accessories we've seen instead of a hand are hooks! This can open the possibilities for larger alien looking hands in sets, so other accessories such as a baker's glove.

I'm pretty sure it's just something that clips in the hands, like the pom-poms or the crab claws in this year's Atlantis sets. I kind of doubt LEGO would design an alternate hand as specific as boxing gloves without any attachment points. At least a hook is something a character is likely to have instead of a hand.

I personally wouldn't like such a trend at all, for starters because it would encourage people to switch the hands of their minifigures, something that LEGO doesn't encourage (it can weaken the connection between the hand and the arm, just like removing the arms of minifigures). While I have nothing against AFOLs doing this, since they know about the risk they're taking, I don't think LEGO should be encouraging kids to do that sort of thing.

Keep in mind that, being boxing gloves, they're something that you're ideally not supposed to see the hands inside. So there's no reason to think that just because LEGO's official pics don't show the gloves there aren't any hands underneath at all. They're plenty large enough to fit minifig hands underneath.

As I said, I'm not completely sure, but I hope it is.

And look at the side of the glove: Completely covered. I'm sure that if it clipped into the hand, you'd be able to see the hand.

You might be right, I didn't look that thoroughly at the gloves so far, but it's possible. I can't decide wether if I'd like this or not, as it would look a bit better, but you'd have to take his hands out if you want to attach the gloves to sb. else. And I didn't plan to buy the fig anyway... :sceptic:

Fun fact, I've already mentioned the idea of a boxer with gloves instead of hands in the suggestion thread. They stole my idea

I too am not sure, if this indeed is the case, whether or not it would be for the better. I think we can look at it from the viewpoint that these minifigures are meant to be the specific character they are portraying. The space villain for example had a robotic arm which may in some cases ruin the usefulness of the body, but he is meant to be that space villain and anything else is up to us.

The cheerleader's pom-poms can easily be positioned so that one can't see the opening from either side, and I don't think they'd put permanently attached gloves on a torso assembly just for one of these minifigures.

Note that even with the wealth of new elements used throughout this minifigures line, all of the basic "core" body parts - hip/legs assemblies, torso assemblies, heads - still conform to previously-existing part designs in shape, even though the prints and colors may be unique. If they made permanent boxing gloved hands for a minifigure, it'd be a first for this line.

There's nothing wrong with change or fresh approaches. Before I saw the series 5 selection I'd drawna boxer with permanent gloves using the same connection pin as the minifig hand. I think I'd prefer permanent gloves rather than - well, gloves that fit over the hands. I can't imagine myself doing anythng with boxing gloves other than leaving them on the boxer. And hope there's another one in blue or black.....

But what if someone wants to have the boxer before donning his gloves or after removing them? Or show them hanging up in the gym or something? I'd rather have the versatility that comes with being able to remove the gloves. Someone who doesn't want the gloves to come off can still leave them on the figure forever, if so inclined.

I'll admit I'm also a bit biased towards gloves that fit over the hands for a reason of versatility. After all, if you wanted to make a robotic arm with a boxing glove on the end like you see in the cartoons, that would be a lot easier with something that has a standard 3.2mm bar than with something that can't have a legal connection with anything besides a minifig arm.

I'm also expecting it to fit over the hand simply based on what it seems likely for LEGO to do. In the past couple years they've created the cheerleader and the Atlantis crab guardian which operate on the same principle. With the crab guardian it would have been even more logical to create alternate hands as opposed to parts that the hands clip onto, so if LEGO didn't do that for him I highly doubt they'd do so for a minifigure that's supposed to resemble a person wearing gloves.

One advantage to having gloves for hands as opposed to gloves on hands, of course, is that you can more easily type with them. But I highly doubt that's one of LEGO's priorities.

I'm pretty sure that they wanted to do that for the crab guardian. The huge con is that if you tryed to to have the figure stand straight up it would keep falling down. And for a cheerleader, I've seen cheerleaders throw their pom-poms up in the air an catch them, so putting them directly into the hand socket would not be that accurate. But with a boxer, they rarely take of their gloves during real matches, so I could see them puting gloves directly into the hand socket for accuracy.

"Accuracy?" You know some boxers who don't need to wear gloves over their hands because they already have gloves growing right out of their arms?

I do like your acknowledgement that putting the cheerleader's pom-poms directly into her arms "would not be that accurate," though. Masterfully understated.:thumbup:

I don't see how the crab guardian would have any problems with standing up if his claws were attached directly to the hand socket, since for one he uses the short legs giving him a lower center of gravity, and for another the distribution of weight should be more uneven if you use hands and claws together rather than just claws on their own. So why would new problems with balance emerge by replacing the hands instead of adding to them?

Perhaps I just don't understand what your phrasing is supposed to mean, but it seems to me you're suggesting that by putting claws into the hands instead of in place of the hands LEGO somehow improved the set's balance, which doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe they'll come out in July, since there was 3 months in between the releases of Series 3 & 4. This is the very first series that I want all of them! Does anyone besides me think that the Boxer minifigure was insipired by the movie "The Fighter"?

Actually, at ToyFair in NY the given date of release was September, so the earliest we can expect them to start showing up is August (unless the release date changes).

I think the Boxer is just a generic boxer in protective gear.

I'm a big fan of Power Rangers/Sentai/Kamen Rider(besides Dragon Knight) and the T-rex suit guy reminds me of how obvious it is to tell that the monster the heroes fight weekly are actually stunt people in monster garb.

Another reason to pick up the Rex.
