For the Canadian folks, I checked my local TRU and their inventory shows 80 000 across Canada, and told me they would be in at the end of Aug... soon my friends.

Cheers

TRU had 45 packs today. Bought them all and went 19/19 with feel method. Got a full set plus an extra Gladiator and two extra Dwarfs. Only one Egyptian Queen and one Cavewoman, so no extra complete sets. Lots of extra Royal Guards and Boxers though.

Found today a fresh box and got the minifigs that I wanted the most. There were only two gladiators (got them!), four royal guards (got two), two dwarves (got both) for myself. Got a Cleopatra, cavewoman and fitness dancer for my wife.

How hard is it for a mortal, average Joe Lego fan to know what is inside, get a full set of all 16, and not make a mistake? I'm just evaluating my options, and since there's a slight possibility of these figures coming here, I'd like to hear of your experiences.

:cry3: We still don't have these up North yet!

Patience, they'll be all over the stores in just a couple of weeks.

It doesn't take much probably less than an hour if you find a complete newly opened box like I did. But I did not want a complete set and just took what I needed which took me less than half an hour through touch and feel.

I've developped a confirmation method to be 100% sure of the identity of the mystery minifig. I was 16 out of 21 on he 1st series, then 16/16 for series 2-4 with this technique. You would benefit from some basic knowledge/experience of shapes/ridges/notches etc from years of playing with LEGOs.

I usually buy one package, open it in my car and go back in the store with the picture sheet and put it in front of me to help with visualizing what your feeling/touching. You can also use pictures on the box itself.

Ok, for example, the dwarf in Series 5, I'll start by feeling for the head piece (normally the biggest/bulkiest piece other than the body/legs). Once I have identified the helmet, to be 100% sure I have the dwarf, I'll feel for a confirmation piece. I know there should be a beard so I feel for that too until I get it. And so on for all the other minifigs. Maximum 45-60 min depending on your experience and if it's a new box.

Good luck and have fun! Hope this helps!

not hard at all by feel (never use bumps)- the only difficulties come when you've got a series with figures with no accessories/hair (like the mexican wrestler) or similar accessories, like clown hair/pompoms, telescope/flask, and maraca/microphone (all still easy to discern, just a temporary throw off). the guy above me says it all on the topic of double checking.

have scissors with you so you can peek and just walk back through the store if you do make a mistake. I made one with series one (that undetectable mexican wrestler) but it's been 100% accurate onwards

That sounds really morally questionable to me. The feel method does work, as long as you have the know-how of what certain lego shapes should feel like. I went 6/6 in series 4 without ever trying to feel legos before.

Oh no no no, jeez - I meant check after the purchase but before you go all the way back home. check in the parking lot and walk back into the store if necessary so you don't have to make a second trip. I originally said "scissors in your car" but edited remembering that the take-your-car-everywhere phenomenon isn't the custom in all regions.

in fewer words, I just meant 'check before you go home'

Okay, that makes more sense. A second trip would be annoying for sure.

Thanks for all your tips! I think that I should take my chances, especially since my only other option for getting them sealed is at $65 including shipping... I really hope they come here.

Only one more to go (the little clown), but the guy at my local Argos promised to call me when one comes in stock, as he's a fellow AFOL. I've only got duplicates of the royal guard (which was intentional, as the guards are always stationed in pairs and it's my personal favourite) and Ice Fisherman and Evil Dwarf (which was entirely accidental as someone else picked them up for me). I really like this set, it's the first I've completed (I wasn't into Lego for years and only picked up the occasional series 3 and 4 figure) and am not disappointed with any of the minifigs.

They've reached the TRU here in Tallahassee, Florida! I picked up eleven of them yesterday and another eleven today, feeling the packets to get the ones I wanted. I haven't yet opened today's, but I'm pretty sure I've completed a set (I should now have three graduates, two apiece of the zookeeper, dwarf, mobster and palace guard, and one each of everything else).

Oops, I meant two gladiators, not dwarves - but I do intend to eventually get at least two of each anyway. I do indeed now have the ones I indicated above (save for having two gladiators and one dwarf), and will get more when circumstances permit.

My package from TRU came today. I ordered 24 and I got about 5 of the stupid clowns. I already had one, which is more than enough - this is the one I am loathing out of this series with its stupid useless clown torso, head and hat - at least the short legs and pie are useful. Got three of the aerobics instructor two of the detective, and two eskimos. Didn't get even one of the one I don't have and didn't get, the graduate.

Doesn't look like anyone has pointed this out yet, but Series 5 is now available on the LEGO S@H site!

Sweet!!! Interesting to see S4 is sold out... Last time, when S4 came out on S@H, S3 wasn't sold out. Does this mean that S4 has had a higher demand than S3? I think it does, and it sounds very logical to me.

Longer time gap between series, maybe?

I was just in the LEGO store in Glendale, AZ and they got series 5 in yesterday. I'm impressed with myself. I picked out 10 packets and got 10 different figures! And by the way, they still have a bin of both series 3 and 4 still in stock.
