Baylego Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 A pet store would be lovely, just think of all the new animal molds
legotrainfan Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I thought that the modular houses series was finished and that Grand Emporium was the last gem of that line. I didn't think that a new modular building was going to hit the market in the near future. Modular buildings seem to sell pretty well. The release of a new one is good news... but if I think of the fact that I hardly have enough room left for such a building, it's actually bad news for me!
vader11 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Good point. By the way, thanks The Soup Nazi, for pointing out the fire hydrant-Fire Brigade thing. Very nice observation. I can't help but wonder if it's a coincidence or if it means something? -Santhor I cannot say it means something, but there's a trend in all the modular sets. CC: vegetables falling out of the trash bin. GG: fire hydrant. FB: shopping bag on the girl. Edited December 27, 2010 by vader11
Rick Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I thought that the modular houses series was finished and that Grand Emporium was the last gem of that line. The Fire Brigade was the last one of the three initially planned Modular Buildings (along with Cafe Corner and Green Grocer). I don't know anything else TLG has said about how long the line will run. I sure hope Jamie Berard can continue working on one annually for years to come.

The amount of revenue the modular series (& collectable minifigs) generate for TLG I doubt they will be pulled for a while
Pyramid Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I know what it'll be! A billboard factory! You know, because of the billboard on the grand emporium! Just kidding. Although if it is, for some reason, a billboard factory, I totally called it.
GRogall Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 The amount of revenue the modular series (& collectable minifigs) generate for TLG I doubt they will be pulled for a while Well, at the Munich store they continually sell out of GE and and it was the same with GG, so I'm sure they are selling well! I'm also positive that we will get another modular soon, and if that sells well another next year to etc. etc I know what it'll be! A billboard factory! You know, because of the billboard on the grand emporium! Just kidding. Although if it is, for some reason, a billboard factory, I totally called it. No! like I said last year all hint go-towards a post office.
lifeinplastic Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 It would be interesting to see how a pet shop was designed but I really dislike the moulds for some of the 'pets' Lego already has such as the mouse/rat, the cat and Big Beastly Belville Bunny so I hope that there will be some good animals! The 2011 castle chickens and goats look quite good and I like the recent pigs and cows so hopefully some pets can be remade in this style. However, I don't really mind what sort of building we get as I will buy it mainly for parts if they're good, rare and useful. I hope any post office would have the old printed letters 1x2 tiles (not the Harry Potter ones). The set should have no stickers, a decent interior (hopefully there will be living quarters in upstairs rooms so we can get some proper household items made. There should also be some bricks made in new colours to make the set more attractive to buy for rare bricks and make it worth the large amount of money these sets cost (e.g. flowers made in orange or a bicycle in light blue/purple). I'd like something a little different to what we have in usual city sets as the modular buildings are more about the architecture that the playability so don't need to be child-orientated...perhaps... A launderette A doctor's surgery or pharmacy A barber shop/hair salon A pub A florist or a combination of two small neighbouring shops beneath an upstairs apartment Any building should have plenty of minifigs (6+ please), including more females, old people with grey hair and children with short legs. As the collectible minifig series need to be more action themed, I doubt that office workers and everyday civilian wear figures will appear in these sets so it would be good for Lego to create new torsos so that we don't get the same figures we get in other sets. It would also be nice if the hair pieces came in colours which are not already available for the particular piece.

Which would mean that there will be no new molds for the next modular building. Current pieces in new or rare colours, on the other hand, are a different matter, as far as I recall. I think Jamie Berard mentioned this in an interview a while ago. Does anybody else remember this? That said, I'd love to have a pet shop or a post office... or just about anything else. The modular line in general, and Café Corner in particular, was what lured me back into Lego, and in my opinion the designers have done a pretty good job on all the buildings thus far.
muscleman Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 i think will be have or a Pet shop or a Post Office...I hope

I do recall Jamie saying he likes to introduce existing pieces in new colors for the modulars.
streifen Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 instead of having a single "business" (e.g. pet shop, post office or etc..), i do hope that the new Modular will comprise of different business on each floor. e.g. Post office - 1st floor Florist - 2nd floor something else - third floor
chroute Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I'm very much looking forward to a new exlusive! I have absolutely no idea what it's going to be, but there a several things I would love to see: - old fashioned police station - hospital (also old-fashioned) - bank and a post office would also be nice. Like others already said, I hope there are plenty of minifigures. I would also like to see TLG keeping up the good work on the details that all the exclusives have. It was these exlcusives(starting with the café corner)that got me spending far too much money on lego!
Jargo Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Is there an absolute rule that modular buildings have to sit on a 32x32 baseplate? could it span two 16x32 baseplates side by side to make a longer narrower set? I was just thinking that businesses side by side forming more of a street profile might be interesting. Surely the modular aspect is which floor sits where and that all the sets interlock using the same connection pins?
Rick Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I'm very much looking forward to a new exlusive! Agreed, whatever it's going to be, it's bound to be good anyway. Is there an absolute rule that modular buildings have to sit on a 32x32 baseplate? could it span two 16x32 baseplates side by side to make a longer narrower set? Two 16 wide buildings in one set will be much more expensive because there will need to be two extra walls. A single 16 wide building? I don't consider it likely, but who knows...
Er!k Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) I think it will be a Post Office, but hey we'll see :) Edited December 30, 2010 by Er!k
Cpt Smileyface Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Is there an absolute rule that modular buildings have to sit on a 32x32 baseplate? could it span two 16x32 baseplates side by side to make a longer narrower set? I was just thinking that businesses side by side forming more of a street profile might be interesting. Surely the modular aspect is which floor sits where and that all the sets interlock using the same connection pins? All of the current modulars are designed to connect with each other, which leads to some design constraints if they want to keep them compatible. They all have a front sidewalk and some type of back yard, so a 16x64 wouldn't fit with that theme.
Jargo Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 fair enough. It was just a thought. I don't buy these sets as the cost is prohibitive on my meagre budget but I enjoy the reveal when a new one is announced and the whole buzz of dissecting the photos. I just wasn't sure if the baseplate footprint was something Lego had set or if it was something that had arisen from fan expectation.
LEGOMAN132 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I think a postoffice would be cool. Altough deli, ice cream shop and some other shop with apartments above or a big bank.
Inconspicuous Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Based on the "hints" given in previous Modulars, I'm guessing that it's either a Pet Shop or Post Office. Cafe Corner had the vegetables, which hinted groceries. Green Grocer had the fire escape, which hinted fire station. There doesn't seem like a connection between Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium. But Grand Emporium has a mailbox, so a Post Office seems the most likely. On the other hand, there was a cat in Green Grocer and a dog in Fire Brigade, which could hint at a Pet Shop. In my own Modular setup, the dog is chasing the cat up the tree in front of Fire Brigade. Whatever it is, I'm excited!
Ondra Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Why they give mailbox in front of GE, if there will be post office with mailboxes next to the GE?This doesn't make any sense... Im for pet shop, not for post.
metalgearsolid Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I heard from a reliable source that the 2011 modular is a pet shop. But the same source also said that 2011's modular will be launched quite late though, only in Q3'2011. Anyone can confirm?
