I'm ready to head up to the fourth floor. A description would be nice.

Likewise. I want to get as uch done as we can.

The fourth floor has a few boxes strewn about all over, and a ladder heading for the roof. There's some old pieces of furniture, as well as a couple of cabinets. Nearby on a table are some accounting ledgers. Since the fourth floor is tiny, only a handful of people can be up here at a time.

If it's okay, I would like to come up there.

I would like to look in the cabinets and nock on all the draws and sides to see if they are hollow.

Also, if it is dusty I would like to look for footprints and handprints.

I guess I'll start with the cabinets. Julie do you want to look through the boxes?

Mayor Bradford opens a cabinet drawer. There's a few gold bars, as well as a few layers of fifty dollar bills. They're covered in dust.

I would like to use my knowledge of economics to look at the accounting ledgers, and see if there are any appropriated funds.

Gloria uses her accounting class to help determine if the ledgers are correct or not. They are dated February 4th, 1930. The ledgers list the Town Beautification Budget, the Alabatha Police Department, and the personal finances of Lance Freeston, the former Mayor who was arrested for corruption. There appears to be a large sum of money going from the Beautification and Police Budget to Freeston's personal finances. There also is a huge sum of money, in the millions. The account has been blacked out using some form of a tape. It is impossible to remove the tape.

Frankie ascends to the fourth floor. None of the walls are hollow, and Frankie joins Mayor Bradford at the drawers, marveling at the huge amounts of money. The floors are dusty, but there's no prints except for the ones made by those up there.

Sure.

Julie looks through the boxes, but they're only filled with old furniture.

I'd like to check under any cushions on the furniture

There isn't anything under the cushions.

Wow, I can't believe this much money would be hidded up here without anyone knowing! Mayor, do you know anything about this? Is it worth counting the bills to have an idea of what we are looking at here? Besides, there may be something else hidden beneath.

I would like to check the bills to make sure they are not fake.

At least we know if the worst comes to the worst, we can always bribe the commies.

No seriously, wow. All that money up here. I wonder what it was doing up here. Hmm...maybe it was hidden in fear. This some of money draws attention.

Hmm, it is dated from 1930, that is when your depresion started right?

I too would like to know what happened to Mayor Lance Freestron.

I don't think that this is related to the communists in any way since there are no recent prints but I would like to ask the mayor or congressman to take the money to a safe.

Finally, are there any windows?

There's no way you'd be able to determine if they were fake or not, but they're not fake.

Whatever happened to Lance Freestron? Who is in charge of the current finances and are they still in town?

"Mayor Freeston was sentenced to two life sentences for corruption, racketeering, bribery, and a few other charges. He's currently in jail." Congressman Bob said.

"I believe Betty from Accounting is in charge of the finances, but she left town." Mayor Bradford said.

Finally, are there any windows?

There are no windows on this floor.

So, now that we found all this money, what are we going to do with it? If we don't do something with it now, I'm pretty sure that it'll be gone by tomorrow, stolen by the Commies. Maybe we should keep a guard or two here?

Yes, let's leve some people here to guard money so they are easy targets. God. The money mustn't distract us, however large the sum. I think the best we can do is leave it, or, if the commies are after it (which I doubt they are) we could always make a trap. Money is excellent bait for the weak. Also, if it is stolen, who cares? I don't. I am happy working as I do. I don't nee the millions to be happy. I don't mind if you do but I don't want anything to do with it really.

The congressman puts a lock on the door, and leads everyone out of the Town Hall. He moves to make a speech.

"Attention all." he starts. "I'm sorry to say that Valerie's death is going to have adverse effects on the town. Washington has urged me to get results, so tomorrow, the National Guard will be arriving into town to protect us from further damage."

The crowd mumbles to itself.

"Also, tomorrow, we will have our first vote. This vote will be a majority vote on who you think the spy is. When you convict this person, he will be arrested and investigated by the CIA."

The townspeople looked around nervously.

Chapter 5 is now closed. Chapter 6 will be up sometime soon. It is not night yet.
