Derfel Cadarn Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 These are my final two entrys for the CCC. Unfortunatly due to a busy work schedule and the usual rushing and stress of Xmas, I only had one evening to build these both in, so the mocs have kind of suffered in that respect - deffinitly not my best work. But, thats life and they will have to do. First up is Troll Baiting. The age old tradition of pitting knights against a ragging troll in one on one combat is an execellent way to get the knights battle instincts sharp and ready for the upcoming war. Plus it is also great fun for the spectators! Next is Ramble On! Probably the most basic moc ive ever made and only took just under a hour! A simple scene showing a farmer tending his stock, the corn being harvested, a fruit seller on his way to market and a young man who has packed all his belongings and decided to hit the road and just ramble on! Well thats it for me this year, and I shall be taking a break from castle for a while till I can come up with some new techniques to make them more realistic. Should be back in the new year with some Town and Pirate mocs. Merry Xmas everybody DC Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 I really like the first one! Quite different from what you are used to make, but still very nice I like the wooden part with some dark brown in it and the supports are nice too. The second MOC is good as well. It shows how the every-day life was for most of those normal peasants. The slopes on the sides there are also a good touch. Well done again Quote
Big Cam Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Ok, Derfel, my jaw is on the ground for 2 reasons. One these are fantastic in the classic derfel way, and second, these were built in one night!! Quote
RoryoCox Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Lovely! Both of these scenes are beautiful especially the first one. The building is really well done with the wall technique and the balcony is a nice touch. The rounded gate and fighting area is nice and detailed. The second MOC is also nice. A little simple path and the little farmer scene. Thanks for Sharing both of these Quote
Rick Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 These are my final two entrys for the CCC. But, thats life and they will have to do. Yeah, they're terrible... I really like the 'balcony' on the castle wall. And your instantly recognizable 1 x 1 round wall technique works great here. Excellent work, especially considering the limited time used. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Two entries? One night? Not your best work? Wow, my eyes might be fooling me but both of these are certainly outstanding piece of work the way I see it. I agree the first one is better, a very effective build depicting the fight with the troll, together with your signature stacked round plates-wall detailing. The second is pretty good too. Overall, just great job on both of these entries Derfel. Best of luck in the competition! Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 YOu always WOW me with your MOCs Derfel! These were built in one night? They are better than what I could build in a month! I also like some of the techniques you used in Troll baiting. Great work. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 A couple of nice, quick builds all things considered. I couldn't crank em out this fast, but then the deadline of a competition can make you step up. I really like the look of Pastoral Life, I need to track down some brown flextube I think, makes for great smaller trees. Have a good Christmas mate to you and the family. Cheers ISC. Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 Thankyou all! Yeah, they're terrible... I really like the 'balcony' on the castle wall. And your instantly recognizable 1 x 1 round wall technique works great here. Excellent work, especially considering the limited time used. I dont mean that the're bad, its just that I could have made them a lot nicer if I had more time, which is why I say they are probably my worst entrys out of the 6 I have made for this comp. A couple of nice, quick builds all things considered. I couldn't crank em out this fast, but then the deadline of a competition can make you step up. Yes they do give a good tree effect as you can bend them to any position. They are held together by an elastic band at the bottom which I conceal with cheese wedges and folidge. Wishing you and your family a good Xmas too mate Quote
Lord Arjay Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 I also prefer the Troll Baiting one of the two. The tan looks nice in front of the darker colours of the caslte and it looks very realistic. My favourite part is also the balcony. The second looks great aswell and is quite impressive given the time you took on it. Great job and good luck in the contest! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 And a merry Christmas to you too DC! Enjoy your break from Castle buildings, I think you really deserved it after so much MOCing. I would love to see you back next year with some outstanding MOCs and advice! I'm fond of the Troll Baiting, a lovely scene with some great techniques. Sometimes it takes quite a while to figure out how it's done! Especially the coloured window shutters and door really stand out for me. The Ramble On! is an eye catcher as well, perhaps some more height differences here and there would add some but it certainly looks good! Quote
