Artifex Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Actually, there's a law that says that every major hotel must be in art deco, and that every pub must be in turn-of-the-century. Build On! Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 Oh, dear....thanks everyone....still not clear what to make, you see I have been though many towns in my life and it's a mix of 1900's and 1930's hotels....does it help to say it's only going to be a single level hotel with of course the front pub in front, but a seperate front entrance meant for a ladies lounge/dinning room or the modern day pokie/gaming lounge. My gut feeling is art deco, but still if anyone else thinks otherwise please comment. Quote

Brick On. ~LCM Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 (edited) Is this too old looking..... This would use a lot of 2x1 light bluey grill bricks eh ? Keep any suggestions or ideas comming everyone ! Or a quick edit here.....something like this..... Edited July 4, 2011 by lightningtiger Quote
peterab Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 If you're going for a single story pub I think Art Deco would probably allow a more decorated style. If it were me I'd be looking to build a gold rush era Victorian (after the Queen not the place) Italianate pub, but thats probably not appropriate for South Australia. I seem to remember some Georgian style sandstone pubs from my travels in South Oz, and since they're pretty simple they might translate well to brick. You could also look to do a weather board building using the technique in the latest railbricks journal. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Maybe you are right 'peter', art deco might suit not just me but the town's overall look. I'll start on it after the JD dealer is finished. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 Just a quick written update, I have designed an art deco frontage to the hotel (LDD), but I have a problem....colour.....single tone or multi-coloured (2 or more colours/tones in use. I still might try a Edwardian style design too - once I find something to base it on and see how it looks in LDD. Keep watching today, because I should be reshooting the the town centre. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Reshot the town just now, let me know if you want to you want to see more. Comments and suggestions still welcome. Quote
Tamamono Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Still looking good, LT! I love the way the JD dealer looks when put into the town, and the yellow tractor attachment is a pretty nice design. Could you post close-ups of it? Anyways, your town is looking great; how much do you plan on expanding it? Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Thanks 'Captain T', hopefully these photos still impress. Brick On and keep on watching ! Quote
Tamamono Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Thanks 'Captain T', hopefully these photos still impress. And impress they do! I love the tractor attachment, and now I can clearly see that you've improved the JD dealership's architecture a bit with the rounded sign. Do you plan on making more attachments (leaf blowers, etc.)? Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Thanks for the comments 'Captain T', I might consider extra fittings for the tractor on display. So keep watching because you may never know what might pop up ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) Nice work, your town continues to impress. Thanks 'jonwil', oh I'm also planning an old small train station/platform to go along side the police station. Edited July 7, 2011 by lightningtiger Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Some beautiful shots of the town Thanks 'icy brick', tomorrow I'll start the train station.....any suggestions....remember small town....South Aussie ? Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Another question hopefully score some answers on is how close to the road can I build this train station or should it go on the other side of the tracks ? Quote
LegoCityMann Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Another question hopefully score some answers on is how close to the road can I build this train station or should it go on the other side of the tracks ? Our Zoo has an "Outback Exhibit" which features a train station with a train that runs thru the area. The station was based on a real station in Australia and was rebuilt at a smaller size. Would love to see something like it in your town if you feel it fits. (Not sure how big this pic is. If this image shows up too large I will resize it manually and edit the post.) ~LCM Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Thanks 'LCM' for the photo, but from where is that design of station taken from ? It does appear timber sided, possibly from mountainous areas of the eastern states....say the Blue Mountains area west of Sydney.....but maybe 'AJ' or 'Peterab' might also have an opinion. I'm currently working on a small station so hopefully within an hour I might have a W-I-P shot up. Keep on watching ! Quote

I'd have to go to the Zoo and read the plaque again to be sure. ~LCM Quote

Some similar features to stations up in the Blue Mountains. Looks like it takes architectural designs from a number of sources, bit of a lifesize MOC really but it looks good. Enjoying the progress on the town and the JD dealership. :classic: Edited July 8, 2011 by AussieJimbo Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 I'm still not sure how this will fit though, but what does everyone think (oop's though a bit out of focus ). Opinions please. Quote
AussieJimbo Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Very nice little station and platform. :classic: Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Very nice little station and platform. :classic: Thanks 'AJ', does it need anything else added do you think ? Quote
AussieJimbo Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Is that a ticket window or can you put a bench there for waiting passengers? Maybe also add one of those little red hand trolleys with a few suitcases. :classic: Quote
