Hopefully this is allowed. I'm posting the so called confidential pic of the Unimog here...

Picture removed by Bonaparte: It's not allowed to post confidential pictures at Eurobricks!

I would suggest swapping the beams for the front windshield pillars with yellow flexible axles. They should give the slightly curved shape of this newer Unimog U400. But the rest looks sweet. Looks like a new panel for the hood as well. Would be even better with black wheels (if available) and using the pulley wheels to cover the center so it looks like the actual Unimog's steel wheels. The model itself looks like a pneumatized version of the 8258 looking at the lifting boom, but it comes with a bed, so it serves a more logical purpose (to lift something onto the bed). So will this set come out on the first half of 2011..my wife will be visiting Europe in March...hopefully it's already on the store shelves :classic:

I think there are only 2 pneumatics. The third is at the wrong place for a pneumatic cilinder. I think the third is a decorative light.

Does somebody now what the B-model is?

oww.. I want this one bad!

And the backhoe as well :cry_happy:

The backhoe can be had for 45-50 euro 's at the moment, but the Unimog will cost more, way more I presume (alas)

Thanks to the three pointed star at the bonnet..

Unfortunately this amazing set will appear in August, I can't wait that long!

I think there are only 2 pneumatics. The third is at the wrong place for a pneumatic cilinder. I think the third is a decorative light.

I think there are at least 3, as there are 3 switches on the rear.

Looking at the tiny image with the arrows it shows arrows on the three switches plus arrows on the two elbows of the arm and one on the grabber claw, so it would appear that the claw is also powered pneumatically like the 8868.

Those switches also look really close together, have they moved the ports to the back? (which would be a welcome change).

This set looks freaking awesome I can't wait to get this.

Pros so far:

Nice new wheels,

Pneumatic,

Likely to have a compressor,

Likely to have a four function gear box,

Has just the right amount of PF,

Looks authentic

Every function seems to be motorised with no knob wheels right next to the function itself.

Cons so far (just for the sake of completeness):

Pneumatics still look too short (but still way better that crappy LAs! :cry_happy::wink: )

The cab is ugly (but then so is the real thing, so it has to look that way in order to be authentic).

There are still some things unanswered tho.

Does it have new parts which are more exiting than a new lift arm or bracket?

Does it have suspention/4 wheel drive/engine?

I already believe this to be possibly better than anything we got in the past decade, it has the complexity of a 4 function gearbox, the authenticity and playability of pneumatics, everything is motorised and it looks like a completed and perfected design however IIIFFFF it does have suspention/4 wheel drive and some exiting new functional parts (like for making live axles like leaf springs and extention tubes for drive) well, i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it could possibly be the best set of all time, better than 8868, 8480 and 8880. Yeah I went there!

It's gotta work hard to be innovative enough to beat all those new parts, never before seen functions and georgeous looks of the 8880, the never before seen complexity and first ever to have a transmission ring multi function gearbox (which is common place now) and wow factor playabilty and looks of the 8480, and the never before seen motorised pneumatics and heavy duty look of the 8868. Notice how all three had things never seen before, big things that would move technic up to the next level of complexity, authenticity and challenging building. This Unimog could achieve that. It's the closest i've seen to achieveing that for a decade. But if not then it's still better than anything we have had in at least a decade IMHO, knocking the 2009 crane truck down to second place for me.

There are more and bigger pictures on TechnicBRICKs now.

As allanp says, there are 3 pneumatic switches at the back of the vehicle so 3 functions: 2 large and 1 small cylinder.

The model ought to have a pump as well to take advantage of the PF motor.

I'm not so crazy about the other sets though. The smallest looks like another Cherry Picker rehash. The flatbed.... well, who knows.

the rims of the unimog Tires seems to be the rims of the 81.6 or 94.8 Ballons. and if i compare the battery box with the tires, i would guess the wheels have a diameter of minimum 12 studs. and if my guess is correct the tires has the same diameter or more than the 94,8.

Looking more like 81.6 mm to me, and the rim/wheel looks as if it's a narrow version of the #44772-wheel.

But let's wait and see what LEGO is coming up with.

Its funny people on here some times, the unimog is a really nice looking set and all people are talking about is its tires and wheels ha

Considering the huge loads of new parts launched every year for LEGO System compared with what LEGO Technic gets really should give you an idea of why every single new part for LEGO Technic is so appreciated by Technic fans.

Looks like a new panel for the hood as well

To me it looks like a pile of studded parts fitted in rather neatly.

Would be even better with black wheels (if available)

Indeed.

Thanks to the three pointed star at the bonnet..

Before everybody gets carried away with the license thing, please remember, character licenses are expensive. Product licenses are cheap. There won't be much of a "license mark-up," if any, for the Unimog, just like a generic Matchbox or a Matchbox Unimog cost the same $1.

The Lamborghini license models, for example, have been some of the best values in the LEGO line-up recently, The current Gallardo Polizia if $60 for 800+ pieces!

In case the retail price exceeds the one of #8043 it might be due to the Pneumatic parts - production costs are somewhat higher than those of the crappy LA's.

Perhaps LEGO has learned a lesson regarding the limits of the LA's ?.

As far as I remember there has never been any such issues with any Pneumatic set as those with the #8043 set.

In real life LEGO Pneumatics are really tough and can hardly be overloaded (if built in correctly) - if the load is too heavy they simply won't move. Heavy loads an LA's simply wears them (and the built-in clutch) out.

Licensed model = no B-model.

Look at TechnicBRICKs (or on this page). On the picture you can see "2 models in 1" on the box. It's at the bottom left corner.

Oops...

Now you say that, yeah, I remember this small logo.

I'm getting the feeling some people on here don't like LA,s but I have to say iv had all the old pneumatic sets years ago and they are really nice but they just are not as accurate as the la,s ,I didn't like la,s at first but I'm starting to really like them now ,and they are very strong for someone that said they wear out ,I like la,s and pneumatics but la,s are more suited to diggers and machinery that needs percision movements,8043 is a class piece of kit everyone has to agree!also 8043 with pneumatics would have been a disaster!

I think the most people just want pneumatics again, after so many sets whit LA's. I think they don not want no LA's any more, but less.

I like both, but I think LEGO should vary more.

I've built quite some models with pneumatics and with LA's, and both systems have advantaged and disadvantages. I like LA's for their precision and size and I like Pneumatics for their flexability and power. But I agree that an official set with a combination of PF and pneumatics is highly desirable after so many sets with LA's. That Unimog looks like a set I'll put on my wanted list 8-).

Yes I totally agree that both are great in there own ways, with this unimog it looks like the rear bed might tip too, maybe with an La!would be nice to see both in the one set for sure.will it be possible to get the unimog before aug 2011 cause that's a long time to wait ;(

I wouldn't like to see both LAs and Pneumatic in one set, it is better and more realistic if the set has only one type of actuators.

But, this LA-versus-Pneumatic discussion is better to leave for appropriate and already existing thread here on EB.

Well I don't agree. I used to think LAs were ok but now I just hate them. A pneumatic excavator, providing they were longer would have been awesome. But like Milan says, this is probably no the best place for a pneumatic vs LA discussion.

If the B model is a vehicle, it will probably be a Mercedes model.

Based on the parts (and Lego history), an MB-Trac would have been obvious, but Mercedes dropped the line some time ago.

Not enough panels for a car. The wheels are too big for a Sprinter van. The parts could probably stretch to a G-Wagen, but that's being discontinued by Mercedes.

Maybe:

- a stripped down Actros oe Eoconic?

- some other Mercedes vehicle?

- a variation of the Mog?

- not a vehicle?

It could be just a different implement on the back, like how the XXL crane just had a stupid looking bucket lift instead of a crane. This would be a shame but i'm not bothered cos the A-model is so great! Besides it's lego, the B-model could be some kind of insect!

Yes, I believe this will be the difference, like they usually use as a 2nd model a weird grabbing device instead of the ordinary looking crane...

See some example of: 8049 Log Hauler (model-b) design, 8047 Material extract (model-b).

Thanks,

Noam

Off topic, but the G-Wagen is certainly not being discontinued and is slated to be in production through at least 2015, and likely past that.

Back on topic, the Unimog looks amazing and I hope that the Mercedes-Benz license is used further in the future.
