Baylego Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I agree that the Mothership and smaller UFO sketch models look better than the final versions. I would have really liked some of those grey macaroni slopes. Quote
Dunjohn Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Okay, it's about time I asked somebody what a "macaroni slope" is. Quote
Baylego Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) Macaroni slopes are the are the large, curved, dark green pieces that were first found in the Slave I. Look at the silver color pieces that truly look like macaroni in thisphoto. Edited June 3, 2011 by Baylego Quote
Aanchir Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I am mad. That mothership is amazingly cute. I would understand some modifications from prototype to final , but the changes are so extreme with the mothership. The original design was just made of win. The final one is just large. I mean, it has a complete different "spirit" in the design. This is true to an extent, but it should be noted that the "spirit" in the design of the final one matches the rest of the theme a lot better than the original sketch model. And as I mentioned, the final version has a unique function that seems to be completely absent from the sketch model-- so while visually the prototype may have been "made of win", in terms of playability it is an inferior design to the sketch model of the Abduction set (or to the final version of that set, which fully retained the sketch model's functionality). I am also disappointed in that I really like the color scheme of the original ADU Jetcopter better than the final color scheme. Stone somehow makes the Jet copter look more technological and militaristic to me for some strange reason. I largely agree with this-- the sketch model of the Jetcopter has a wonderful balance of colors just like the final version of the HQ, whereas the final set seems a bit too heavy on the blue and yellow. Another factor I like better about the sketch model is the smaller, two-bladed propeller rather than the larger four-bladed one. While the propellor itself feels less powerful with only two blades, it makes the vehicle sleeker, better balancing its dual nature as a jet and a helicopter. At the same time, though, I worry that having that much grey the human faction's color scheme wouldn't have had enough contrast with the alien faction's. And there are some changes in the color scheme between the sketch models and final versions that I think were wonderful, namely the addition of Transparent Fluorescent Reddish Orange (Trans-Neon Orange) to the ADU weapons and Transparent Fluorescent Green (Trans-Neon Green) to the alien weapons. Gregorovich Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Thanks for those links, Aanchir. I actually like the design of the sketch Mothership to the final one. If they changed the colour scheme a bit (make it more bley and silver), I think it would look great. I know it's almost just as lacking in terms of 'mothership-ness' as the final model, but it just somehow looks more alien IMO. I think it would be possible to make it have a spinning outer ring if they modded it a little. That's really the only prelim I like more than the final, though. Quote
Delta 38 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) Interesting. I don't really like the old version of the HQ set, but it could definitely be modified a bit and released as some other set. The Mothership and the Abduction ships look great, though. I would have preferred if they kept this look. While the ships are still colourful (so many transparent light blue axes!), they retain a more realistic look. The Mothership appears to be taking up less space in this version, so it doesn't look as empty. Edit: pun not intended. I meant the space between the curved rail parts and the cockpit area. Bfahome Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 The proto-mothership looks awesome. The trans-axes around the edge are especially neat, but I can see why they wouldn't stay, as they'd go flying off if it bumped into anything. Though I do think the flatter canopy would have fit in just fine with the aesthetic, since it's a larger ship. Quote
Vindicare Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 The final HQ > prototype one, especially the plane. Quote

I found that one quite amusing as well! I also found 2 cheat codes for the game,The alien one first:4 alien pilots and you will unlock super abduction ray. I can not remember the human code but the code will unlock bumper car mode! Quote
Lance Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I have a question for anyone who might own the recently released Battlepack. I understand that the figures are made at a different facility to the minifgures that appear in the regular sets in the theme. This means that they feel slightly different to regular minifgures, or so what a review has told me. Now I'm not bothered about them being about the same quality as Collectible Minifigures, but there's one thing I want to know. Some of you may have noticed that the Collectible Minifigures seem to have a looser grip on accessories than minifigures we tend to get in regular building sets - items placed in their hands tend to fall out easily, or seem to "spring" out of their hands, probably due to slightly differing properties of the two different plastics I'm not sure if I'm being very clear about that, apologies. Since these battlepack figures seem to be made from the Collectible Minifgure series plastic rather than regular minifgure plastic, I assume that the hands are the same too, and thus don't grip accessories as well. Can anyone confirm this? P.S - I'm trying not to make this post seem biased in any way towards regular minifgures. In my opinion, the difference in quality between figures from the core line of sets and extended lines like battle packs and the collectible figures is mostly negligible, save for the minor issue I have with the hands. My son has reedeemed his VIP points on the Battle pack, but it hasn't arrived yet. But what I do know is that the Chinese plastic quality is somewhat better than it used to be. NinjaGo spinner figs are a good example. Quote
manta5 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I have found four cheat codes for the game (by doing random stuff ) They are: Four Alien Pilots unlocks Super Abduction Ray(for Aliens) Four Alien Troopers unlocks bumper car mode(for Humans) Alien Trooper then three Alien Pilots unlocks Vacuum Mode(for Aliens) Three Alien Troopers then an Alien Android unlocks Double Points(for Humans) I hope that this helped, bye. (Sorry about that emote, it was just funny) Quote

Ceroknight Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Just a little observation I made, The highest ranked human is the ADU Sergeant.. I hope that means there will be more higher ranked ADU members such as a general or a commander in the future Quote

Really the only play feature missing is that stupid claw, and really it doesn't add much to the set. Quote
Aanchir Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 My 20th birthday is coming up... guess who's going to celebrate a year older with a massive amount of Alien Conquest? This is a bit off-topic, but it's always a surprise to me when I find out that the people who I tend to think of as more mature and established in the LEGO fan community than me are in fact younger. I'm already 20, and turning 21 in March. Not a big difference, but it still comes as a bit of a surprise. Actually it seeems there was a handle on the bottom of the mothership so that you could spin it and it could of possible had a sound brick. Really the only play feature missing is that stupid claw, and really it doesn't add much to the set. If it does spin, then it's a pretty pointless feature considering that the outer ring and inner disk are firmly locked together. The only reason the "spinning" feature of the actual mothership set even interests me is because the outer ring spins separately from the central disk. If you wanted to spin the whole thing all at once you wouldn't need any turntables or hinges at all-- you could spin a solidly-built flying saucer just as easily as you might spin a non-saucer-shaped set like a truck, boat, building, or action figure (admittedly the shape of a flying saucer makes it a lot easier to spin than any of those things, but you get the idea). Also, in my opinion the claw on the mothership set does, in fact, help considerably. It adds a little bit of B-movie flair while at the same time letting it interact with other sets and figures, rather than just looming ominously while you imagine the lasers shooting at something else. And furthermore, the thing that people generally consider the biggest flaw of the mothership-- the fact that other ships can't dock at it and thus it is not much of a mothership-- was still present in the sketch model! This doesn't even take into account the sketch model's wonky, disjointed color scheme which suffers from way too many transparent colors. Yes, it would have changed in the final model, and it did-- giving us the very model people are calling inferior. Overall, besides looking cooler the sketch model has no advantages over the final set and a number of disadvantages. Of course, it would have been changed and improved upon no matter what, since it was never intended to represent the completed model, but that's no excuse for trying to suggest that the sketch model would in fact have made a better set than the one that was actually released. The "more refined version" of the sketch model that people are visualizing as a superior alternative to the real set exists only in people's imaginations, and shouldn't be confused with the mediocre, unfinished model the picture actually shows. legomilk Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Hi I am looking for the book number 2 of lego set 7065 can anyone help me with it. Thanks Nr.46.......? Quote
Artanis I Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Okay, I finally had a Saturday at home to take photos in natural light (it is winter here... there's almost no sunlight outside business hours) so we have a shot of all 7 regular sets without stickers: Here we have ADU with all stickers applied: Here are the aliens with all stickers applied: Some UFO ships for comparison: More shots on my flickr (until I upload something else and these disappear into oblivion). They definitely look better with the stickers on. It took me a whole hour to apply all the stickers. (I still prefer printed parts.) If you are considering doing the same, be warned that some sticker applications require partial set deconstruction. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Stickers do make the sets much more appealing, but too bad it's so tedious to apply them Quote
prozac Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I got the HQ set yesterday and its every bit as cool as all the reviews lead on! Does lego replace sticker sheets? One of mine was bent in half and the stickers were coming undone. Quote

Capt.JohnPaul Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) Sorry if someone already posted this, but I didn't see a picture on the top post. But in the LEGO store today... there was an Alien Conquest battle pack. It came with two aliens and 2 ADU soldiers and 1 civilian in a suit. Again, sorry if this was mentioned before, didn't see it in the pictures of sets on the 1st post and looked through about 10 pages... EB member KingoftheZempk was with me and he'll upload pictures. EDIT: Saw that someone posted already on page 60 something... Edited June 25, 2011 by Capt.JohnPaul Quote
