Well,I made a mistake! The alien in the alien defender(the little truck set)has exposed brains, but the tripod does seem to have brains!

I don't see it either. :sceptic:

Really would love to see a closeup pic of the new gun.

Which new gun? The one the humans use? I think it's just a pistol with binoculars stuck on it, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Halo might have been an inspiration for this theme as well? The soldiers look very similar to the ones from Halo, and the Alien Defender has a striking resemblance to a Warthog. :look:

Yes, and possibly. I can't tell with the pics we have.

I don't know if the revolver can have a binocular attached to it as the sight gets in the way, unless they're folding it backwards.

I can see a HALO resemblance, and it certainly looks like the color could match but one could also make an argument that this theme was an inspired by:

I'm pretty sure the gun is actually a new mould. The barrels of the gun look a bit too long to be binoculars, I think.

Yeah, I think there is a slight Halo inspiration for the vehicles. The jet-copter vehicle seems most similar.

Looking at better pictures, I didn't notice that the saucer is actually connected to the tripod. It looks a lot better this way, and more like the tripods from War of the Worlds. The abduction set says that it contains both an abduction feature and a light effect. In that case, maybe the bottom of the saucer opens up to swallow the civilian or something.

A detail I like on the pirate fig is his tentacle housed in the cyborg arm. also, somebody was complaining about the differences between his red eye and the buggy eyes of the other aliens - obviously it's a cyborg part.

It wasn't a complaint it was an opinion. And it wasn't immediately obvious at all. :hmpf_bad:

Yes, of course I meant backwards.

The color scheme of the humans is obviously inspired by that of Classic Space, yes, but why that set in particular? :look:

My thought was that there might be magnets in the Minifigs and the U.F.O.s.

Lego doesn't do magnets anymore. I'm pretty sure it's just a light brick and the "abduction" is just a playbility demonstration.

the alien in the tripod has a little bit of pink and transparent at the far back of his head!Maybe it'll be some brain's!

I can see pink on the back of all the alien heads now in the hi-res pics, apart from the headcrab. Hope it is brains! clearest in this shot

EDIT:the cyborg alien has a different name than the others, alien pirate!

Oh sweet, the aliens have rogue factions attacking under a false flag. Can anyone see if the second alien in the Earth HQ (in the saucer) is a pirate cyborg too? Maybe these are the Mars Mission payback freedom fighters. Are they allied to the other aliens, or chaotic neutrals?

I think I see 3 new human guns, a double barrelled black pistol in UFO abduction, a different design (?)double-barrelled pistol in grey in the HQ and Alien Striker, and a monster new rifle in the mothership.

I don't see the monster rifle... and I'm pretty sure the pistols are the same only in two colours(which is cool.

I don't see the monster rifle...

In this pic the guy being facehugged has a big gun I don't recall seeing before

:classic:

EDIT - might be wrong here, it could be that the facehugger is drilling him open and the drill looks like a gun?

that's actually there to prop the minifig up for the prelim pic, but it looks like they neglected to crop that bit out of the photo lol. A super rifle that wasn't Star Wars related would be immaculate, but we'll just have to see how long this theme lasts and hope for more stuff in the next wave :)

I can't WAIT for Toyfair now... We'll finally get pics of mostly finalized sets in person as well as glimpses of prototype parts that are sure to spark discussions.

Could be... although, there is a properly cleaned up shadow of it underneath. It is a bit hard to tell because of where the glare is. Maybe it's a claw coming out of the mothership. I think my initial rifle excitement was misplaced. Yes, Toyfair will be especially awesome this year!

Well, after quite a bit of reading to catch up, this set looks pretty neat. There seems to be a trend on actual aliens vs. regular minifigs now, which is okay I guess. I don't know if we are getting new colors or the photos are just off (I would think the latter), but the UFOs and outfits are neat and a bit retro after the old UFOs from when I was growing up. The bubble on top is a nice touch, and looks like an updated version of the one from the Divers theme (PS, how long has the old hinge type with 4 'prongs' been gone? it seems that all of the old hinges have been phased out in favor of the new 'clicking' ones).

I wasn't a big fan of SPIII other than the purple. I like the new helmet design, but still wonder why they chose to make the visor non-movable. This theme looks very playful though, which is nice.

On the mothership there's a whole black arm coming from the underbelly. It's sort of like a robotic grabbing arm with joints and (possibly) an articulated claw. Probably another abduction device. It looks like a proper ship part rather than just a prop to hold the figure up for the photo.

Does anybody has an idea for the prizes of these sets?

maybe it's been asked before but I'm too lazy to go back further then 4 pages

No reason in particular, just an example of the design that might have inspired this.

Now that I look at it, one of the alien soldiers has some pink tissue on the back of its head, very peculiar, I guess they have several levels of intellect and the more brain you have showing the smarter you are. (Considering the commander has his entire brain showing this is no surprise)

Just look at this awesome pic:link

Thanks for the pic! :cry_happy: A HQ reasonably sized picture! It's kinda disappointing to see that that there are only four different types of aliens, when in SP3 each set had a new alien. But I guess I can't really complain about new pieces!

Is it just me or does this theme remind me a lot of Mars Attacks?

The sets dont interest me that much but there may be some parts worth picking up.

Now that you mention it, it does have certain "similarities"

This alien attack theme actually looks pretty good. The Earth Defense HQ reminds me of several classic space sets. I'm thinking that this is another nod for classic space fans as a follow-up to Space police 3!
