Wow, does anyone else get UFO/insectoid vibes from the aliens' torsos?

Edit: In fact, I really think the aliens are intentionally a UFO remake/homage. The first think I thought of when looking at ( http://popculturenetwork.com/mediagallery/media.php?f=0&sort=0&s=20110213084835520 ) was this: ( http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6900-1 )

It seems the mommy ship has more functions that meets the eye.

I think the only human set I am going to get is the one with the buggy and the small ship. The buggy is fine and has some cool pieces, but the small ship is very cute and reminds me of the smallish ships of old. The copter is cool, but I will pass, I just don't think I will have enough money so I'll prioritize on the aliens' sets.

I am a little late to the party here because I don't know a huge amount about this new line. The one thing that struck me was that it seems to have a touch of Halo flavor to it. I am assuming that the humans' guns are a new mold but their helmets are not, correct? And does it look like there are different human torsos rather than one base printing?

The Mothership looks like a UFO landing pad instead of, well, a mothership. :sceptic:

But otherwise the theme looks awesome! I'm probably going to get the two smallest sets and possibly the Alien Abduction set.

Just some obs from the new set of pics in addition to what I've already read from others:

Alien Abduction set price is $2x.x9 - going by the other prices should we assume it is $29.99?

There are a lot of different trans- colours in these sets.

Alien in the Mothership has a lime green blob instead of legs, same or similar to the squid warrior from Atlantis.

There appears to be a very high frequency of those cool blasters I haven't seen before, but I don't get into action themes so they mightn't be new.

The alien pet thingy actually fits over a head with a hairpiece, you don't have to remove the headgear which enhances playability and makes it a bit more realistic looking.

Hopefully it's $24.99

Yeah, that's the same piece as the dk. red squid warrior in the Gateway of the Squid set.

Turns out the "clever abduction function" is just a bunch of pointy rubber Exo Force pieces at the bottom of the UFO.

Hopefully we'll get to see the video that guy is taking soon! :classic:

I've been combing through the pictures, but running into a lot of 503 errors (I guess a lot of other people are trying to do the same thing  ). My big question is - has the price of the Mothership shown up anywhere? Or the Jet-copter, for that matter? I'd be much obliged if somebody would post them :classic: . Supposing they're known.

EDIT: nvm on the Alien Mothership front - I just zoomed in on one of the pictures and found that it costs $59.99. Not as bad as I'd feared, but definitely not great for a 400 piece set. Also, I've spied with my elf-eyes in the same picture that the Abduction set costs $29.99 as feared. Anybody care to check my work? It's picture 21 in the Pop Culture Network feed.

It looks like the alien head will only cover the standard male hairpiece. If you look here, you'll see the hairpiece beside the figure.

BTW Oky, that picture isn't showing up on my computer. I don't know if it works for anyone else.

Aw, $60 for the Mothership? $50 dollars was already a strech. It is really not worth 60 dollars, but I still have to have it because of the girl reporter and the alien overlord.

I'm a bit disappointed as well, but it's not really that much of a stretch, because this is one of those sets where the lack of total parts is made up for by the fact that it's SUPER MEGABLOCKSING HUGE. I counted it as 56 studs across. 56. That means it will comfortably hover over the entire Medieval Market Village. It will dwarf the Batwing in both dimensions, and be as long as 4504 Millenium Falcon at its longest point. Put straight up and down it will have two stories on The Burrow, and stand just a hair taller than Shuttle Adventure. It's going to be ENORMOUS.

Worked fine for me :sceptic: . I'm still holding out hope that there may be a bit more to it than just pointy bits - see how there's gaps for them to move up and down in between the curved 6x6 plates?

I think that tonight has solidified my "to purchase" list for Alien Conquest. The last piece of data I need before I can finalize it is the price of the Jet-Copter. Has that showed up anywhere?

I saw what the ubduction function looks like, and Im not sure wether to be over welmed or under welmed. It looks simple but I heard lots of tiny peices and clever usage some where so it looks quite simple but Im afraid I dont think weve completely seen the function. I think theres more than meets the eye (little transformers line right there  )

Ok, lots of nice pictures of the theme so far, but has any one seen any of the Tripod set? I ask because I want to see if it's legs are articulated to any degree. The ones I've seen so far aren't too clear, but I assume it's mobility will be somewhat limited. Anyone able to prove me wrong?

I think it is just hotlinking protection or something.

That mechanism is clever. I for one, was not expecting nano technology or anything fancy. And I think TLG stopped doing magnets too long ago (not to mention that this way, it should work with any minifig without adaption, or at least behead the fig, whatever works best.) I also think that there may be some rotation mechanism involved.

The HQ is a must for me. Also the helipcopter looks pretty cool aswell. The Aliens from this them are great and will be great for my mini fig collection. The 50s vib is also very cool.

That's pretty big indeed, but I still go by piece count exclusively. It seems like the fairest way to determine value. You can spread 400 large parts across a surface and make it look like a larger pile, but that doesn't make it a better buy.

It also doesn't help that, in my opinion at least, the mothership is the theme's weakest addition. As many have pointed out, it's really empty looking, and the big handle on the back is extremely distracting. Even worse, it only has TWO minifigures. Granted, they're both exclusive, but it just makes the overall package look very small considering the price you're paying. You don't even get any smaller Earth Defense figures to fend off the huge mothership (and add play value), which is commonplace these days.

That's not to say it's a bad set - it's hard not to enjoy the Independence Day vibe - but the theme has much more to offer in my opinion. And being on a budget, there's no way I'm shelling out $60 for that. I'd rather get three Tripods.
