sidersdd Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted my full review of 7050 here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54827 Quote
SpacySmoke Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Great review sidersdd! Found the UFO Abduction set at my local TRU today. It was actually still in the shipping carton and no other sets were on the shelves but i took one and it rang up just fine. Haven't gotten around to actually building it, but I do like the minifigs. The farmer's torso and leg printing are really great; nice detail but still cartoon-y in that Lego style. The ADU soldier is a gruff-looking old guy with a nice mustache. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Wait, you get a spare pistol in that set? Do they normally include spare pieces like this in a set? I thought that only common and smaller pieces (antenna pieces, visors, studs and so on) were included as spares. Either way, that's great news for additional figure customisation. The revolver is one of those pieces TLG routinely includes extras of, surprisingly enough. Quote
Final Exit Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I'm really looking forward to this series, they are due for release on my birthday so I hope I can get an order in a bit earlier for the 7066 Earth Defence HQ so I can get it close to the day :) Quote
TimToyGeek Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Got my Tripod Invader and Jetcopter Encounter sets today from toysrus.com. I built the Tripod, what a fun set! I can tell that this one is going to be a hit. I'll do a full review as soon as I can get photos squared away. Lots of play value in this set. Tim "toy geek" Quote
Tereglith Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Thanks to the whims of Florida's climate, my delivery of the Jet-Copter and Tripod has been delayed two business days, so I won't be getting them until Tuesday. (Sunshine state. Ha. Ha ha. ) I know I had sort of claimed the Jet-Copter review, but that was when I thought it was going to be arriving today. Although it would be fun to have my first frontpage, I'll relinquish the review to whoever else gets the set before me ( ) Quote
sidersdd Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I was going to do a 7051 review, but it appears someone else is doing that. The start of my photos for the review I was going to do are posted here: I've got a tri-copter set as well. If I get time tomorrow I may do a review on it. Quote

TimToyGeek Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 By all means, do a review. Your photos look so much better than mine! Tim "toy geek" Quote
krystalKING Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Got the alien defender and tripod invader earlier this week, the alien defender is impressive. It is a antiaircraft vehicle and plays its part well, but the only problem is the wheels, they stick out and don't look right! The tripod invader is amazing! The top swivels and separates,it has a detachable prision pod in the back, and the brain slug is great! (Lego calls it a alien clinger ) Quote
Algernon Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) Man, these sets look amazing. I can't wait to see reviews for the Tripod and Jet-Copter. It's at times like these that I wish I had money to spend on stuff like this! EDIT: Does anyone know if these sets are showing up at Walmart yet? Edited May 1, 2011 by Algernon Quote

Aanchir Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I didn't say it wasn't a good parts pack, it's just that the design is horrible. But of course all of these sets are gonna sell well to kids. That's a bit of a dismal view of today's youth. Personally, I think the design of that set is fine, but I'm sure there are kids who don't agree with me and who won't buy the set. It's not as though kids have no sense of design quality whatsoever, and it always bothered me as a kid when people accused me of having poor taste in LEGO sets, movies, or what-have-you (it still bothers me to this day, seeing as I still get these accusations). Final Exit Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) I had to go up to the Metro Centre today to get a replacement iPad and while I was there I decided to have a look in ToysR Us just incase they had any alien Conquest in ahead of the UK release of 10th May, wow, all of them Picked up a 7066 Earth Defence HQ, thats my afternoon taken care of Edited May 2, 2011 by Final Exit Quote

Well, it stands to reason that a 12-year-old's sense of aesthetics are less refined than an adult's. That's why kids movies tend to be so mind-numbingly dull. But I don't see why that's necessarily bad. As a kid I was in love with LEGO's Throwbots line, and for that reason I'm still fond of them today, but I'm not unaware that the sets are pretty outdated in terms of functionality and posability (compared to today's Hero Factory sets). I had to go up to the Metro Centre today to get a replacement iPad and while I was there I decided to have a look in ToysR Us just incase they had any alien Conquest in ahead of the UK release of 10th May, wow, all of them Picked up a 7066 Earth Defence HQ, thats my afternoon taken care of Color me jealous. Final Exit Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I'll have a go, already finished it so it won't be the in depth versions that I've seen here Quote
Tereglith Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Well, it stands to reason that a 12-year-old's sense of aesthetics are less refined than an adult's. That's why kids movies tend to be so mind-numbingly dull. Bad kids' movies are dull because the adults making them assume that the kids' sense of aesthetics are less refined. Good kids' movies get made when the adults making them don't underestimate their audience. That's why Pixar can appeal to kids while still getting nominated for best picture. But this isn't the Entertainment and Culture forum, so back on track. Compliments all around to those who have been making the recent reviews. Interesting how many first-time reviewers this wave has brought out of the wood-work! My very own jet-copter should, if no further delays are experienced (and there's a reason I say further . Silly Florida postal system.), be arriving at 3:30 EST tomorrow afternoon, at which point I will endeavor to join their ranks. Quote
vexorian Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 It is not just about movies, underestimating kids costs companies billions of dollars. It is good that there are companies like TLG and Pixar that don't. Well, it stands to reason that a 12-year-old's sense of aesthetics are less refined than an adult's. The throwbots' articulations were not outdated when they were released though. They were pretty revolutionary actually. They were sort of a leap back then. Quote
Masked Builder Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Im going to try to get 7052 and get a good review up soon! All of the reviews so far have been great! Quote
TimToyGeek Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I built the Jetcopter Encounter yesterday, another great set. The copter is very solid and well built, the little modular alien ships are decent, and even the flimsier looking parts of the copter are nice and sturdy. The only think I'm not too thrilled with is the little 'capture pod' on the back of the chopper - it's a nice feature, but it's kind of weird just hanging there. It doesn't fall off or anything, but it seems a bit strange there. Overall I'm happy with this set as well - it's a good sized attack helicopter that's not a big behemoth like the agents or dino choppers. I will see if I can take some pics and do a review later - I'm having problems getting my pics to size correctly, so if anyone else has the set and wants to review it, please go ahead. Will do. I just took the pics and am uploading them now. However, you should definitely carry on with your review. My usual Lego-photographing camera is now in DC with a family member, so I had to use an extremely limited, cheap, bare-bones camera. The photos are extremely, for lack of a better word, crappy. I look forward to seeing your review appearing after mine. Quote
Artanis I Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Can someone with the info (or better search skills than me - I couldn't find anything in this topic) find the prices for these sets? It would be good if they were added to the first post. *hint* *hint* Quote
