Faefrost Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Humans attacking/invading others, even in retaliation? That doesn't seem right for LEGO... (Not to mention that the skyscrapers n the background evidently place the setting on Earth.) Though it would be nice if the Galaxy Partol guy was whetting our appetite for a continuation of the theme. It might be that he was only included because the theme was axed, though this hypothesis would depend on how long it takes to develop a CM theme vs when TLG decided to scrap AC. In any case, a successs of the Space Marines on CUUSOO might get them to reconsider... Oh I think they have been looking at the rabid interest in the Space Marine concept, and how sought after that Galaxy Patrol fig has become by Army builders. As far as the concept fitting into Lego? Their main issue with violence is real world human on human violence. Human v Alien is AOK. I mean really, just look at some of the older Space sets. They are basically the humans strip mining Alien Worlds to the detriment of the locals. Often ending in violence. Power Miners was even worse. I am hoping that they do take a second look at AC and we get a continuation next year. Hopefully if that does happen, they will combine some lessons learned. The original AC line while great was lacking in Hero sets in the mid to low mid price range. Just the Jet Copter (which takes a little while to grow on you). Given the interest in the GP minifig, they need some low and mid priced stuff that supports Army building more. The Aliens while quirky and amusing are really just the cannon fodder. The only real danger with the AC/Space stuff drifting towards a more Army Building type of fan, it may get quashed to avoid conflict with the Clones and Stormtroopers Quote

How many clones or stormtroopers do you count? None! Apart from 2 sith troopers in the Fury Interceptor and a Mandalorian there is almost nothing for army building! (Perhaps Palpatine's Arrest will have something?) Quote

True, the summer SW sets seem to be more geared to those looking for specific figs and not simply armies. But I don't think that at least some of the current winter released army builder sets are going away anytime soon. And that probably counts in their planning. Sadly I suspect that Palpatines Arrest will be. Jedi force builder. The Three featured soon to be ex Jedi and the Emperor. Lego will stay well away from anything that involves the clones at that point in the movie. A bit too close to child massacres by named popular clone characters I fear. It would be so cool to see some varied theme minifig or Army build packs. A 4 or 5 pack of Galaxy Patrol types. ( better yet in ADF blue) a 4 pack of those Sith Troopers. Sadly they seem to have concentrated all of their Army building sets and resources at LotR. On a positive note keep your eyes on Barnes and Noble. They seem to be clearing everything AQ out at really good deals. I was just able to grab 2 Earth Defense HQ's at 40% off list today. ( so $48 USD). caperberry Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 ... (Not to mention that the skyscrapers n the background evidently place the setting on Earth.) The concept image with skyscrapers is from the first wave. But it was indicated to me that some of the models shown in it were intended for the second wave. Sorry for any confusion... and indeed, I can't really confirm that it was definitely true! Just relaying what he told me. Quote
Faefrost Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 (edited) Mark Stafford, a LEGO product designer on the AC sets (and possibly he was the lead or only designer?) spoke at AFOLCON last week. It seems there WAS going to be another wave of AC, and I got the impression sets had already been designed. It seems LEGO had to drop a theme this year, I'm not sure if this was down to the number of themes and/or parts coming out, so they had to make a tough choice. They couldn't drop a licensed theme as they'd obviously already paid the license. He was clearly saddened about this. When I mentioned the cool Mech shown on this concept art board, he said that was a set intended for 2012. Such a shame!! The concept of this year's wave was really cool too. The first wave was the aliens attacking Earth; so the second wave would have been set on the alien planet with us attacking them. Hmmm? Looking at this as a mental project. We can get close to a lot of this now using some current or still available sets. The dual rotor helicopter with the net can be converted from the City Police Heavy Lift Helicopter. The Alien Mecha can probably be improvised using the Lex Luthor suit from the Superman/Wonder Woman set. (the drawing actually looks a lot like the Agents Robot). We see some figures that could be accomplished with the CMF Series 7 Galaxy Patrol figs and the Series 4 Haz Mat guys. The fighter, the Ninjago blue fighter is a good match if you strip off the gold Ninja stuff. That large APC Tank truck is a little trickier to match to the drawing. But something similar can probably be MOC'd up? The hardest thing would be the big Alien ship with the brain. Does anyone know what the blue think in the lower left is? I sense a challenge! Galaxy Patrol armour in ADU blue is enough to make me salivate. However, part of the charm of AC is the emphasis on the civilians. We hardly ever see civilians in a space theme (although, they're not really 'space civilians, but you know what I mean.') On a positive note keep your eyes on Barnes and Noble. Faefrost Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Barnes and Nobles here I come! Did you see the Tri-Pod on sale? ~Insectoid Aristocrat Sadly those were the only AC ones that I found. It looked like they were clearing out all the Lego and games and puzzles as a 40% off "white dot special". I am kicking myself however. They had two of the 21010 Robbie House and one 21005 Falling Water or around $60 each. I normally don't pay attention to the Architectural, but I happened to look those two up on Bricklink. Egads! :cry_sad: Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 (edited) I've actually seen the Tri-Pod set at a couple of Walmart stores recently for $13. Wow, I have to stop only buying at the lego store! These going out deals sound great! As a proud owner of the set I can say it's well worth the 20 bucks it usually costs, and once I get the complete line up, I'll swing back for as many more of the tri-pod as I see fit! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited May 25, 2012 by Dannylonglegs Quote

The legs really don't do much for me. It's by far the most swooshable of the Alien ships. Even if you can't find it at $13, Target has been clearing them out at $17. (I think I saw Target had that Heavy Lift Chopper on sale this week for a few bucks off as well. It fits in well with the AC theme. Either as an AC transport, or as a way to have the Lego President greet the Aliens.) Quote

A rare and expensive to get reporter, an uncommon farmer, and a clone army of "Ed from Sales and Marketing" . Although on the plus side, the more modern / current nature of the theme makes it real easy to flesh out the population using extras from the CMF's. Both civilian and ADF. Quote
just2good Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 . I didn't get around to picking any up, though. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 These sales are so great! I can't wait to go pick some more AC sets up! The only downside is that it means they're on the way out. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

But that's really not so much an Army as it is a small scout troop. Edited May 30, 2012 by Faefrost Quote

(I think I saw Target had that Heavy Lift Chopper on sale this week for a few bucks off as well. It fits in well with the AC theme. Either as an AC transport, or as a way to have the Lego President greet the Aliens.) Well, over the past few weeks I've looked for all the sales previously mentioned and couldn't find much. The Barnes and Nobles 40% off, from what I can tell was a coupon which expired last November, and the one close to me was sold out anyways (they usually don't have a great supply of legos. (Unlike the Borders which was equidistant from my house )) I did find the target deal, but it wasn't enough incentive to buy it, as I'm hoping to complete the line before I get repeats, and 15% off the big sets isn't spectacular (I don't have a tremendous budget for Lego, so even though it makes 90 into 76.5 or something, I won't be able to get all the rest of the sets if I spend that much on the one. Also, the two targets I've been to aren't selling that one anymore. ). If pressed, I will take advantage of it, but I'm still looking for a better offer. The best deal I found aside from that was at Walmart where they're selling this. I searched online for better deals, but none showed up easily. The Local Lego Store doesn't sell any anymore. I may buy the ED-HQ on amazon with a gift card I have for 50$. If anyone in the US (specifically on the East Coast) finds any good deals on AC, I'd love to hear them. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
