Aveal the black sheep Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 impressive work tomcat,i agree, they deserve a topic of their one.the stag idea is genious and your painting although not flawless as so much detail in it=) keep it up. Ed it´s been a while with no news of your elf army... to much work ? tomcat´s army would win an eventual battle all the best Quote
White Nun Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Oh my word Tomcat, - your Elf army is amazing! I love your freehand painting and it looks just so very effective blending in well with the original Elf figure so very seamlessly. I've been collecting Lego Elves as there seems to be a lot of them being offered for sale on the main auction site here in NZ. I'm not sure what number of Elves I'm up to at the moment, but I know I want MORE! I've been buying old joblot down-on-their-luck minifigs too so I can convert them to Elves. Having been a keen miniature wargamer for years I've got a steady hand for painting figures so I think I'll have a go too. Quote
White Nun Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) This is my small Elf army so far, - may their ranks increase! There is a local trader who supplies sets of Elf armour and weapons and I'm definitely going to be buying more from him. Edited March 30, 2011 by White Nun Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Nice army. Those 'custom'weapons look very good, I especially like the sword. But I think some different heads wouldn't look bad either. Right now it looks a bit like some cloned zombie army with all those staring eyes. But outside of the faces it's a great army already Quote

All those little staring eyes watching me are starting to get on my nerves Two more Elves arrived in the post to swell the ranks since the photo was taken, more should arrive later in the week. Quote

White Nun Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 You're really making me jealous... Naw, it okay, I enjoy seeing your nice elf army! Thanks Smittyfan. The only thing is I don't think I can show off the picture here of my Elf Hero mounted on a Mega Bloks Griffin. He looks really good too At least buying custom Elf helmets will give me extra Elf hair/ear pieces that I can then use to convert ordinary John Doe minifigures into Elves. Yay for Elf torso decals Quote
Aanchir Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Thanks Smittyfan. The only thing is I don't think I can show off the picture here of my Elf Hero mounted on a Mega Bloks Griffin. Yay for Elf torso decals I wonder if that's the same Mega Bloks griffin I had in my childhood. Hmmm... Alternate elf faces would be great, but there really aren't any I know of other than the main one that fulfill the conditions I'd expect for my own elves (medium nougat facial details like wrinkles and cheek lines, brown eyebrows, and a moderately stern expression). The Sumo Wrestler fulfills all the categories besides eyebrow color. There aren't any Series 4 or 5 figs that seem to fulfill those conditions, either. But perhaps my terms are too demanding. In any event, my brother and I only have one elf and don't plan on building an army, so it doesn't make much of a difference. Quote

The head situation should be fine as I've ordered a whole lot of blank yellow heads and some sheets of clear decal paper so I can use ED-209's artwork to create a range of expressions in the ranks. The MB Griffin is a really nice piece (It's not a MB King Arthur set flapping wings Griffin btw), - I've even sometimes used him as a proxy in 'serious' Warhammer Fantasy Battles wargames back in the days when I didn't have a proper official Griffin model. I got lucky because he arrived unexpectedly in a job lot of bloks along with a MB Phoenix (which is nice enough too as it happens). Edited April 2, 2011 by White Nun Quote
White Nun Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 (edited) This is my very first High Elf conversion using Ed's artwork. I used one of those awful blue lollypop Castle knights as the basis and I must say that the improvement is considerable. No lollypop blue castle knight will be safe from now on High quality print onto an A4 sticker sheet using my HP Deskjet printer and the sticker has been sealed with PVA glue like I usually do. The face isn't quite as good as I would like, but I'll see how I go once I get some decal film. I still need to make this wee fellow a cloak, but I'll get round to that soon. White Nun Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Look I really tried, but there is no way I can make a High Elf look good with a brown cloak. In the end I inexpertly modified Ed's High Elf torso artwork to have a blue cloak and things look so much better now. After a few attempts at making a print worthy cloak I used some fancy caligraphy parchment paper I had and that turned out reasonably nice. And so it should at around $1.00 a sheet! I tried double siding, but couldn't get things to line up well enough so I just painted the other side over with blue acrylic in a crosshatch brush pattern. It's the inside of the cloak and you're not going to see it much anyway. Besides it saves on printer ink. Sealing with an art spray works well; - I used a matt finish one, but I would like to try out a gloss one just to see how it looks. By sheer accident I printed out some blue cloaks on a sheet of paper that had a little art seal overspray on it and I ended up with a really nice effect that I might use on one or two High Elves just for the fun of it. Pictures soon, - I've got stuff hanging up drying all over the place at the moment. Quote
White Nun Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Ok pictures...... I've given the High Elf the odd bit of touching up with a fine brush and acrylic paint. After trying out a printed sticker shield I found that shields look best printed on photopaper. The cloak is printed paper with the inside painted with blue acrylic paint. To my eye at least the dragon looks like it's been embroidered onto the cloak. Quote
Aveal the black sheep Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Nice work Nun =D the high elf looks great! good idea with the cloak, perhaps only ask ED to do a higher image quality of it? but it looks awesome the way it is. More ...more! ED ,is your army ever going to show up ? Quote

White Nun Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Using some of the decals in the archive as a guide I handpainted a High Elf archer as an experiment, - and yes I know his face is a bit awful, - it was an experiment Ok... Quote
The Crazy One Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Wow, these decals are increadible! Those blue ones are my favourite, and really do show off your skill at deal making. I really want an elf army now! Order order order... I don't actually have any elfs from series 3. Quote
