ApophisV Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Okay, just returned from the X3 preview. Honestly: I am SO disappointed! The feeling of the movie doesn't match the feeling of the previous parts, its way too short, many characters don't match their comic counterparts, you often don't know which cinematical part is currently going on ("Damn, now that's a huge fight considering it's just a pre-final-fight! ... Wait... That IS the final fight! THEN it's lame!").... Really, I am sooooo sad! I really wish that DC-B|tch Suuuuuuperman (*n* *n* *n*) hadn't taken away Bryan Singer!!! |-/ >:-( (Otherwise this means that Superman is worth a look.... :-P ) So... Don't want to talk about details (It's about bedtime for the small Wolverine within me!), though I should mention that some scenes are very shocking (look at it and you know about which one in particular I am talking ), some are only shocking those that are familiar with the comics. And some are just offensive for the comic nerd within... (CONTINUITY! BRETT, DUDE! DID YOU EVER HEAR THE WORD CONTINUITY!!!! >:-( >:-( >:-( ) That will do! |-/ I wish Xavier were still with us to erase my memories about this pile of junk!
The Hordesman Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Ive heard that the movie was a flop, since I liked the first but loved the second, this doesnt sound good. Well, Ian McKellen (my favorite actor EVER) and Hugh Jackman are in it... Meaning its not complete junk. ;-)
UltraPrime Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 This film seems to be universally hated, which is a shame as the first, along with Blade, marked a serious turning point on comic book adaptations. I might even wait for the DVD on this one...
Vader Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 As soon as i heard singer wouldnt be involved i had a feeling that this might be a flop, for me the second film was great and really built on the first but from what ive read and seen i think that ill be agreeing with Apo on this one. You know i really do believe that out of all the latest comic movies that the first blade movie was by dfar the best, its just a shame that the following 2 werent that good.
xwingyoda Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I will see it tonight so I will give you my insights later on hehe !! I do agree on the difficulties of transposing decently a comic/video game onto the screen !! Look at the marvelous movies like Catwoman, Daredevil, Blade 3 and what have you !! However some were really good like Hellboy, Constentine, X1&2, Blade (Guillermo did a fantastic job !!). However I have to disagree with Vad on the second opus, I thought it was really good !! Oh well lets hope X3 is not as catastrophic !! (I mean I really enjoyed a lot the Da Vinci Code, so critics are not always a good source of inspiration when quality is involved hehe). *yoda*
The Hordesman Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 However some were really good like Hellboy, Constentine...'I have to disagree with you on Constantine- while the movie wasnt bad, it completely bastardized Alan Moore's real intentions. In Constantine, he is a catholic, but in the comic (Hellblazer) he is a neutral figure who tries to keep balance and not let heaven nor hell take too much influence on earth. Also, religion is not limited to the catholic faith, but all religions co-exist. I might add, there is no way Keanu Reeves looks like Sting. V for Vendetta however, I though was very good even though it was not directly truly faithful. However, one should not try to point out which part of the story the current comic-based movie- while some (like Vendetta above, or X2) follows it to some degree, most movies are just loosely based on the storylines. *Goes back to his own manga writing*
xwingyoda Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Just got home from X3 and I think its way better than I expected ;-) Sure it is too short, sure the beginning is stupid and useless, but some scenes are really great !! Every director has its own ways and going after Singer was a tough, tough job because he managed the two first installment so well !! Rattner added his vision which was pretty good actually !! He added a lot more comic relief (especially wolvie and beastie !! By moments I heard Frasier and not the Beast X-D ). I was disappointed to see so little of the new mutants (especially Angel) !! So I thought it was a pretty good movie ;-) WARNING: DO stay at the very end of the ending credits, because there is a "surprise" which is cool hehe !! Okie, back to finishing the Barge X-D *yoda*
languages Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 However some were really good like Hellboy, Constentine... You missed out the best one...Spiderman 1 and 2 Anyway going to see this movie tommorow..cant wait!
JoeMI6 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I was disappointed to see so little of the new mutants (especially Angel) !!*yoda* I'm really annoyed they didn't call Archangel by his proper name.
Sir Dillon Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I don't kmow when I will be seeing this, but I plan on seeing it in theaters. However some were really good like Hellboy, Constentine... You missed out the best one...Spiderman 1 and 2 I also enjoyed some of the Batman movies.
Lord Thrawn Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I was disappointed to see so little of the new mutants (especially Angel) !! *yoda* I'm really annoyed they didn't call Archangel by his proper name. Ah, but they did. He only becomes Archangel once he has been fitted with the funky skin and metal wings by Apocolypse. So nah. ;-)
DoubleT Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Well i liked it.. very good... and at times really did have the doomsday feeling... And lots of hints, for a X-Men 4? he he btw X3 is not a flop.. it made 120 dollars in USA, plus the rest of the world this weekend...
xwingyoda Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 loool TT you forgot million in there :-P Indeed the movie did the best long week end in the states: 120 million $ is a record, so imagiine worldwide !! Which is good because the movie cost more than 220 million $ to do (and that is without promo of course hehe) *yoda*
DoubleT Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Yes, but the DVD's will also seel well, so they will get money there also..... Btw.. I was scared how Juggernaut would be... But loved him....... And the Magneto Chess scene was a nice touch he he
Vader Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Well after viewing the film i have to say that even though i liked it i was also alittle dispointed, my main gripes were: How many xmen died! i mean come on 3 in one film was that really Necessary to kill scot, jean and xavier all in one film? sure i have no love for scott or xavier but by killing them off so soon it just felt to me like this was more a wolverine film than a xman one. The return of jean, this for me just also seemed pointless apart from killing of scott and xavier what else did she do? i mean she had hardly any lines and just seemed content to follow magneto around. Where was the phonix that xavier described at the start? and lastly rogue, so rogue decided to become human? this was just without any emotinal character development and was a wasted chance to explore the choice that she faced. Even though i found these aspects a let down i did enjoy seeing such sights as the juggernaut chasing kitty and the way the beast moved and fought also the little furball remarks were a nice homage to the comics.
ApophisV Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 kill scot, jean and xavier all in one film Scott / Cyclops: Has anybody seen his "death"? - Just speculative! Jean: The Phoenix will rise again... and again... Xavier: Transfered his mind in the braindead guy -> Still alive Furthermore: Erik / Magneto: Got his powers back Raven / Mystique: If the "healing" is only temporary (Magneto!) she sure will receive her powers too! Anna / Rogue: Same for her! Now let's see, who is missing? Kurt / Nightcrawler: No word about him, so he could be in a fourth movie (another actor though) Hank / Beast: No problem with him Ororo / Storm: Other actress, besides this a possible appearance Peter / Colossus: Everything is possible Kitty: Same here! (MOST probably a new actress! ;-) :-P ) Trask: Will we see some "real life" Sentinels??? X-O Let's hope so! And some more.... From a point of continuity most of the mutants named in the credits can't appear anymore since Dark Phoenix killed most of them at the ending, so probably a NO for especially for Psylocke.... :-( So... Chances are big that someone makes a sequel since Status Quo (especially considering the core team) are still alive or are at least resurrectable!
xwingyoda Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Nice analysis Apo ;-) but you forgot the most important aspect of them all: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Since this movie was a real "hit", there will be a sequence (speculation, sure but made highly probable tks to the green ones $$$$$$$$$$$$) Actually I was pleased to see scotty vanished like a big sissy !! I never liked the character :-P So speculate on !! *yoda*
Vader Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 The point i was trying to make Apo is that it was overkill in my book and i felt that the writers were just trying to get other characters out of the way so that wolvie became the main focus of the film. Oh and by the way rogues name is marie not anna ;-)
ApophisV Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Oh and by the way rogues name is marie not anna ;-) Actually it's "Anna Marie", while the comics (at least the late ones) only refere to "Anna" the movie Rogue is called just "Marie"... Dunno why they made this, I could imagine that "Marie" is a much softer name than "Anna" which fits better to the girly and soft character of the movie Rogue.
Vader Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Indeed your right about the comics Apo, but i was refering to the movie ;-)
Sarg_Kulo Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Possibly going to see this today *sweet* right before England kick Equador's megablocks
Lord Thrawn Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 You wer correct on one of your predictions Sarg, but what about the film?
JINZONINGEN73 Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 (edited) A little late to the party, I know, but... Ok. I never saw the first 2. I'm pretty much a hater of American superheroes. However, I DID read my brother's X-Men back in the 80's, around the whole Jean Gray / Dark Phoenix saga. So, because those were such GREAT times, I thought I'd give this a dl, as Phoenix was supposedly in it. ... ... ... >__< What the hell did I just watch? Rogue has no accent? And decided to become human? A ton of missing characters? I just don't know where I'd even begin to start slamming this movie. The old comics this (kind of?) came from were brilliant and full of emotion. There's none of it here. It's been gutted, and replaced with a bunch of craptastically unconvincing CGI junk. You know what it is? This wasn't an adaptation of X-Men from the 80's. This was an adaptation of the touchy-feely, black rights errrrr, I mean "mutant rights NOW" silliness as seen in the poorly animated cartoons. I guess people who never read the comics might like this, but anyone who grew up reading just the few short issues it's based on... I can't imagine it. It's entirely possible that if I'd actually paid to see this, I'd have started licking candy and chucking it at the movie screen to see if it stuck. Having never read "Blade", I can say I LOVED the first movie, liked the second movie, but wasn't too crazy for the third. The ONLY other Marvel comic I read (or ever had a subscription to) back in the 80's was Ghost Rider. Eventually, he was cancelled, then revived RIGHt before the 90's. It had promise, but it seemed to be missing something the previous version had, despite the older version being downright CORNY at times. It was too... I dunno'. It felt wrong. EVERY issue was just a cameo for some OTHER Marvel character. So far, I'm not diggin' what I hear about the upcoming movie. Nicholas Cage is one of the most over-rated actors out there. He's been saying ALOT of stupid poop, like he wants to "add to Blaze's character" and "make him a fan of jelly beans". ... ... ...WHAT?!? *wacko* Hey, getting back to X3... why didn't they just prop up a carboard cutout for Phoenix in all of her scenes? You know, ask the over-paid "special" effects team to CGI in it blinking from time to time? There was hardly any flying, no dynamic posing, no fire and brimstone flying out her butt (PHOENIX, Hello?) and not much of any movement really. Think about it... she could literally have been a cardboard prop. I almost thought she was for awhile, but then she started humping Logan. THIS is Phoenix / Dark Phoenix... shooting fire out every orifice, flying all over the freaking place with glowing eyes, scaring babies from 3 states away: NOT this. Look! Look! She fell asleep! Her eyes are slightly open, but this lady's actually catchin' some Z's. Edited August 13, 2006 by JINZONINGEN 73
Lord Thrawn Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Think about it... she could literally have been a cardboard prop. I almost thought she was for awhile, but then she started humping Logan. Wow, that's actually so true. Very well said.
