KingDom Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 This is my first MOC but by no means finished. I intend to add new figures from the 2011 wave when I can get my hands on them. So the idea is that this is a clone outpost on the outskirts of a city on naboo. The reception faces the city with the main defences facing away (that's where attackers would have to come from. So, on with the pics: Nothing special here, just a birds eye view. Here's the reception, for friendly visitors in need of help. Protocol droids are sometimes required like in this case, with our clone trooper who isn't fluent in Wookie. This is the bomb squad training facility, out of use until the new 2011 sets get released in stores. Until then it can get some use as a prison cell. Here is the gun rack, a bit of SNOT but nothing special here. What's this? It appears one gun is missing, we'll come back to that later. Here we have some troopers relaxing with a drink, off screen there is a TV but it isn't anything special. Clone pilots getting some rest. As usual, though - nothing special. Here is Fox's private quarters. Here he can take off his gear, put them on stands and relax in his 390 degree rotating chair. To his left, you can see you can see the escape hatch... ...and here it is. Rotate the gear and the sloped door opens up. In case of emergency, this'll buy the troops some time. Here is the intelligence centre with two clones manning the computers. The droid here isn't of my design though. I can't remember who the credit goes to. A quick pic of the generator, on the far right is another droid of my own design, a full picture is availavble on my flickr (link at the bottom). The sparsely populated second floor collecting dust - any ideas on what to put here? On the roof we find our missing weapon and a sniper to go with it. Find a frontal pic of him on my flickr. Here we have a machine gunner joining the sniper on the lookout for nefarious battle droids. Space for my ARF troopers, hopefully I'll get some soon as this spot is looking a little worse for wear you might say. Out in the yard, some rookies are treated to a weapons demonstration, under the careful eye of Fox's right hand man (off screen). Right now, a dummy is being subjected to a flamethrower. Here, we have a chaingun and a rocket launcher, next in line for the demonstrations. In the background you can there is Fox's right hand man - currently unamed. Some impressive prototypes need to be tested out. This isn't just a light show, you know. Here are some less impresive weapons being taken away, in this case an M2 flamethrower, some rifles and an old fashioned megaphone blaster from some retro sets. So that is the most up to date version of my MOC. It seems that these troopers run a tight ship and the base is safe... ...safe that is, for now... And here is the link to my flickr, as promised. Brickdoctor Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Pretty good It's got the base feeling to it. I think it just needs more detailing and some tiles or SNOT to smooth everything out. The M8 is Don Solo's design. Quote
BrickArtist Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Looking good, IMO showing a whole lot of badseplate is never a good idea, tiling it is best, but even just plating it would be a major improvement. The color hurt smy eyes, more grey would improve it. This is a great start I look forward to the finished MOC. Quote
pompommini Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Very impressive MOC! Those droids don't stand a chance against this beast of a base! Just as a tip I would change some of the yellows, reds and blues to make the colours match. Can't wait to see the finished MOC! Quote
KingDom Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Thanks for the comments, guys. I think I'll try to get rid of as much colour as possible (minus the red, of coarse). I think I'll need to make an order on pick a brick to begin to cover up that base plate, though. Quote

I think I'll need to make an order on pick a brick to begin to cover up that base plate, though. Try Bricklink.com, it's like ebay for lego, and it's way cheaper than Pick a-brick. I like the outpost, it looks like you put a lot of time and effort into this! I agree with the others though, it should be mostly gray, and tiled if you have the money. Quote
Mr Man Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 ARRRR The dust the dust No seriously this is a good MOC, when it is completed it should look quite good. My only criticism is that the colour scheme is a bit multi coloured. however I am often lost for matching colours, as I don't have much LEGO so... if you can match a bit more good. Maybe you could put a watch tower or gun emplacement on that second floor. Also Ive just noticed that this is supposed to be on The Naboo ,so it should be a bit more green (the towers and things from the Harry Potter sets should suffice) Still an overall good job. (please dust it a bit please) Quote
Fives Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Thats a good base. I like how you have spaces empty for the new bomb squad and ARF troopers. Overall a nice base, but there is a lot of different colours that don't match. If it could be built using only grey and red then it would look purely Republic. (also, nice design on that flame thrower.) May the Force be with You Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 (edited) This is quite a good MOC KingDom, but a little too colorful with some of the pieces. I hope to see you improve this once you get the proper-colored parts, preferably more grey colors. And additional details and floor tiling too. But why are the pilots resting with their helmets on? KimT Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 This looks like a play setup to me? It has some great ideas, but it's too colourful in my opinion. I recommend that, since you obviously have a sparse amount of bricks, you cut down the size of the MOC to be just one thing. The courtyard where they rookies train, the reception and so on. This is too many things with too few bricks and it looks more like a fantasy frame for playing. Plus the whole thing is so dusty it's hideous Quote
KingDom Posted January 1, 2011 Author Posted January 1, 2011 Thanks for the response, guys. It was dusty because I just brought it out of storage (after a long dry spell without lego). After canibalising my Sentai Fortress and Dark Fortress (my biggest sets), I think I have enough resources to put the set on a black-grey-white scale (with red). I'll begin dusting as well but the tiling shall have to wait now. And this is kind of a play set up - I have intentions to make a comic series using pictures of this MOC when it's finished. Quote

I think it's pretty good. I love play setups, I have one sitting on my floor that is very similar to yours. If you have an air duster though, go to town. I think we are all looking forward to the finalized version! Edit: As for the clone trooper battle packs, 7913 is released in most places as of last week. If you are in the US, I found 2011 at WalMart which really surprised me. Edited January 1, 2011 by Cpt. Dan Quote
KimT Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I personally use a toothbrush for dedusting It's effective and really good at working those studs. Don't worry about tiling - it requires loads of tiles and is very expensive. I spend a lot of bucks tiling the YavinIV Diorama that I did for LEGOworld. If you want to raise the level of your MOCs, then you need to straighten out the colour scheme. Mixed colours look "childish" and can be really distracting. Keep at it Quote

Keep at it I'm scheduled for a root canal soon so I'll pick up a toothbrush then So far I've made the escape hatch exclusively light grey and made the intelligence centre black and dark grey as well as some more subtle changes. Thanks again for the support, everyone. Quote
Masked Builder Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Looks like you've got a great start! I would say that the colors need work but everybody else has hammered that into you already. I will say that you've got some great ideas and some great older parts that I would love to have. Quote
Prime Brick Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I like this. It has priddy good design overall, atlest I think so... Quote
Dragonator Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I personally use a toothbrush for dedusting Me too! I have to agree about tiling, it looks lovely, but it is damn expensive to do. They just disappear so fast... A nice effort for your first MOC, if you keep in mind the tips some of the others have suggested I'm sure your next will be a marked improvement. It's all a learning experience. Quote
Once In A Lifetime Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Quite good KingDom, the only things that bother me is the colors and the baseplate, but both were already pointed out. Also, maybe in your free-time you can blow off that dust . Quote
captainkeeli Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Very detailed base! On the ARC trooper part, just customize some Episode III troopers! Quote
KingDom Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) Very detailed base! On the ARC trooper part, just customize some Episode III troopers! Hopefully they'll be stocked somewhere in the UK before I have to resort to such measures. EDIT: So I did this a while ago but didn't have a chance to post the pictures until now. I think this is a mainly plain colour scheme now. I think I'm going to order a few hundred 1x2 tiles next month with should cover the whole base for under a tenner! So here are the main changes that I have made so far: Here you can see I've made the wall mostly black and dark grey. I kept the trans red and blue parts out of personal preference. The brown parts at the top are part of the outside 'camouflage'. Here is the rest of the wall and now you can see the escape hatch is now all plack and grey. This was probably the most multi-coloured part before. For the second floor I decided to create a prison and a prototype weapon storage (i.e. Mostly brick built weapoons). Here is Wat Tambor, leader of the Techno Union army, even if he makes a daring 3 inch drop, he's attached to a chain a la Slave Leia. And here's the weapon storage. These weapons were previously seen in the yard but have now been moved over here. The flame trooper is climbing up the ladder to get his flamethrower. How will he get down, though? Still waiting for those Arf troopers... I've ordered one clone battle pack (and a mandalorian one) off Amazon which is scheduled to arrive in a couple of days and I'll buy another one when they are available in Argos. I made this slightly more white so it would fit in better with the rest of the outpost but I still like the yellow colour scheme for the room. I've also made more subbtle changes around the base but they're not worthy of pictures. As always, please post what you think. Edited January 9, 2011 by KingDom Quote

The Legonater Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The flame trooper is climbing up the ladder to get his flamethrower. How will he get down, though? Ooh! Ooh! The same ladder! That's a nice change ther, KingDom. It looks a lot better without all the mix-matched colours. Quote
KimT Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 No need for a 2nd topic for this. It's still dusty Quote

I meant how will he get down with a massive hulking flame thrower No need for a 2nd topic for this. It's still dusty The last stage in this is to tile over the plates, thus tiling over the dust. Hopefully all will be fine. Quote
